The transverse vibration control of a clamped, rectangular, isotropic plate by a vibratory flap subjected to harmonic excitation has been investigated by Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and experimental technique. The vibratory flap is a new plate-type dynamic vibration absorber, which can vibrate on the plate when attached as a cantilever plate. The study has been focused specifically on the influence of aspect ratio of vibratory flap on the dynamic response of the plate at constant mass ratio and constant tuning frequency ratio. The study has revealed that the dynamic response of the plate varies with respect to the aspect ratio for aforementioned conditions. An optimum aspect ratio has also been obtained by minimizing the mass ratio with maximum attenuation in the first and second target frequencies. The results have shown that the optimized flap can trim down the plate vibrations by up to 90–95% in the fundamental mode. Moreover, the dynamic response of the plate can be improved to a great extent due to the adoption of an optimal aspect ratio of the flap. Finally, the experimental outcomes have shown fairly good agreement with the results obtained from the finite element analysis.

Finite element analysis is adopted to study the stress concentration of pit area under tension-torsion loading. The stress concentration factors under regular evolution and irregular evolution of pits are investigated by conducting a series of three-dimensional semi-elliptical pitted models. Based on the finite element analysis, it can be concluded that pit aspect ratio (a/2c) is a significant parameter affecting stress concentration factor (SCF) for regular evolution pits. Pits, having higher aspect ratio, are very dangerous form and can cause significant reduction in the load carrying capacity. When local dissolution occurs in the pitting area, SCF will have a sharp increase, it is more probable for a crack to initiate from these areas compared with pits for regular evolution. Furthermore, local dissolution coefficient is proposed to study effect of local dissolution within the pit on SCF.

The author puts forward a new insulation cross arm, uses the insulation and high strength composite materials (FRP), to replace the steel applied to the RPC pole cross arm, this not only has a full bar maintenance-free features, and can shorten transmission corridor again, for the construction of resource intensive transmission lines has important practical significance. In addition, this paper uses finite element analysis software ANSYS, considering the influence of fluctuating wind, in the modal analysis and dynamic response illustrates the actuality of cross arm application of composite materials.

The finite element method is used to study the free vibration of packets of blades. A packet of six shrouded blades is analyzed, only the tangential vibrations being considered. Results are obtained to establish the effect of certain parameters such as stiffness ratio, mass ratio, the number of blades in the packet, the effect of rotation and the position of the lacing wires. The dynamic response of a packet to periodic loading is also studied. The cases of engine order harmonic excitation and partial admission of gas are considered with reference to a packet of six shrouded blades.
