Support vector machine (SVM) is a widely used tool in the field of image processing and pattern recognition. However, the parameters selection of SVMs is a dilemma in disease identification and clinical diagnosis. This paper proposed an improved parameter optimization method based on traditional particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm by changing the fitness function in the traditional evolution process of SVMs. Then, this PSO method was combined with simulated annealing global searching algorithm to avoid local convergence that traditional PSO algorithms usually run into. And this method has achieved better results which reflected in the receiver-operating characteristic curves in medical images classification and has gained considerable identification accuracy in clinical disease detection.

The performance of support vector mchine (SVM) depends on the selection of model parameters, however, the selection of SVM model parameters more depends on the empirical value. According to the above deficiency, this paper proposed a parameters optimization method of support vector machine based on immune memory clone strategy (IMC). This method can solve the multi-peak model parameters selection problem better which is introduced by n-folded cross-verification. Tests on standard datasets show that this method has higher precision and faster optimization speed compared with other four methods. Then the proposed method was applied to bus passenger flow counting. The experimental results show that the method reposed in this paper obtains higher classification accuracy.

To optimize the parameters of LS-SVM effectively, an improved Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm is proposed to select the optimal parameters combination. For the improvement of the precocity in PSO algorithm, an multi-particles sharing strategy is introduced in simple PSO algorithm to enhance the convergence. The simulation indicates that the proposed PSO algorithm has a better selection on LS-SVM parameters.

In order to solve the problems in the optimization of filter parameters, such as large amounts of calculation and the complicated mathematical hypotheses, an approach to optimize filter parameters is presented based on the Hybrid Particle swarm optimization (HPSO) algorithm, which includes the establishing of filter model, setting up the fitness-function and optimizing filter parameters by HPSO algorithm. The application example shows that the optimization method improves the design accuracy and saves calculation, and HPSO algorithm is superior to PSO algorithm in optimization of filter parameters.

Purpose – The purpose of the paper is to propose a new optimization algorithm to realize a synchronous optimization of sensor array and classifier, to improve the performance of E-nose in the detection of wound infection. When an electronic nose (E-nose) is used to detect the wound infection, sensor array’s optimization and parameters’ setting of classifier have a strong impact on the classification accuracy. Design/methodology/approach – An enhanced quantum-behaved particle swarm optimization based on genetic algorithm, genetic quantum-behaved particle swarm optimization (G-QPSO), is proposed to realize a synchronous optimization of sensor array and classifier. The importance-factor (I-F) method is used to weight the sensors of E-nose by its degree of importance in classification. Both radical basis function network and support vector machine are used for classification. Findings – The classification accuracy of E-nose is the highest when the weighting coefficients of the I-F method and classifier’s parameters are optimized by G-QPSO. All results make it clear that the proposed method is an ideal optimization method of E-nose in the detection of wound infection. Research limitations/implications – To make the proposed optimization method more effective, the key point of further research is to enhance the classifier of E-nose. Practical implications – In this paper, E-nose is used to distinguish the class of wound infection; meanwhile, G-QPSO is used to realize a synchronous optimization of sensor array and classifier of E-nose. These are all important for E-nose to realize its clinical application in wound monitoring. Originality/value – The innovative concept improves the performance of E-nose in wound monitoring and paves the way for the clinical detection of E-nose.
