The synthesis of sulphur and nitrogen containing dithiocarbamato ligand derived from diisobutylamine as well as its coordination compounds with 3d series transition metals is presented. These synthesized compounds were characterized on the basis of elemental analysis, conductometric measurements and IR spectral studies. The analytical data showed the stoichiometry 1:2 and 1:3 for the compounds of the types ML2{M=Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II)} and M'L3{M'=Cr(III) and Fe(III)} respectively. The conductometric measurements proved the non-electrolytic behaviour of all the compounds. The bidentate nature of dithiocarbamato moiety was confirmed on the basis of IR spectral data.

Bismuth(III) phenoxides have been synthesized by electrochemical reactions of 1-naphthol, 2-naphthol, 4-aminophenol, 2-nitrophenol, 4-nitrophenol, 2-hydroxybenzoic acid,p-cresol, phenol, resorcinol, 2-tert-butylphenol and 2-tert-butyl-4-methoxyphenol at sacrificial bismuth anode and inert platinum cathode using tetrabutylammonium chloride as supporting electrolyte. The coordination compounds of these phenols with 1, 10-phenanthroline and 2, 2ʼ-bipyridyl have also been synthesized electrochemically. The solid products separated in the anode compartment have been isolated and characterized by elemental analysis and infrared spectral studies. Current efficiencies of these reactions are quite high.

Electrochemical reactions of bromoethane, 1-bromopropane, 1-chlorobutane and chlorobenzene have been carried out in acetonitrile at sacrificial antimony anode using tetrabutylammonium chloride as supporting electrolyte. The products isolated from the anode compartment have been characterized by elemental analysis and infrared spectral studies and are identified as organoantimony compounds. Coordination compounds of same have been synthesized with ligand (1,10-phenanthroline and 2,2'-bipyridyl). All these reactions proceed with high current efficiencies.

A series of five benzothiazolylhydrazone ligands 3a–3e and their seven novel Ru(II) polypyridine complexes 4a–4d, 5a, 5d, 5e of the type [Ru(N–N)2(L)]Cl2, where (N–N)2 is 2,2′-bipyridine (bpy)2 or 1,10-phenanthroline (phen)2 and (L) is ligands 3a–3e, have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, 1H NMR, electronic absorption, and emission spectral studies. The interpretation of the analytical data revealed that the ligands coordinate with the metal ion in a bidentate fashion through azomethine nitrogen and phenolic oxygen to form complexes. These ligands and complexes also exhibit absorption and luminescence properties.

Cobalt (II), nickel (II), copper (II), cadmium (II), and mercury(II) complexes with phenyl-2-pyridyl-ketone as ligand were synthesized at room temperature in ethanolic solution. The donor atoms and the possible geometry of the complexes were determined by means of elemental analysis, molar conductivities, IR, electronic, and EPR spectroscopies, magnetic measurements, and thermogravimmetric analysis.

Solvent dyes have been prepared by the coupling of diazo solution of different aromatic amines with 2-hydroxy-4-n-octyloxybenzophenone. The resultant dyes were characterized by elemental analysis as well as IR and1H NMR spectral studies. The UV-Visible spectral data have also been discussed in terms of structure property relationship. The printing of all the dyes on cotton fiber was monitored. The result shows that better hue was obtained on printing on cotton fiber and it is resulted in yellow to reddish brown colorations which showed a good fastness to light, with poor to good fastness to washing, perspiration and sublimation, however it shows poor rubbing fastness.

8-Hydroxyquninoline Mannich base namely 7-diethylaminobenzyl-8-hydroxyqunioline(DEBQ) was synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis and spectral studies. Chelates of DEBQ with manganese(II) and nickel(II) were isolated and structurally  characterized by elemental analysis, electrical conductance, magnetic susceptibility measurement, thermal analysis, IR,UV-Vis, EPR and Mass spectral data. The Mannich base ligand is bidentate and chelates through the phenolic oxygen and the aliphatic tertiary amino nitrogen atoms. Based on the magnetic and electronic spectral data all the MnII complexes are assigned an octahedral geometry and NiII complexes are assigned a tetrahedral geometry. Antimicrobial susceptibility screening of the Mannich base shows that it possesses excellent activity when compared to the standard drugs and the metal complexes studied. Among the chelates, MnII chelate is more potent than NiII  chelate. Thermal analysis of a few compounds shows two stage decomposition patterns.

In the work we presented the behavior of 5-(4-(4-X-phenylsulfonyl)phenyl)-4-(n-propyl)-2H-1,2,4-triazole-3(4H)-thiones (X= Cl or Br) with some alkylation agents. Thus, new S-alkylated 1,2,4-triazole derivatives were synthesized by reaction of the corresponding 1,2,4-triazole-3-thione derivatives with different -halogenated compounds (ethyl bromide, ethyl chloroacetate or phenacyl bromide), in basic medium. The structures of synthesized compounds were elucidated by spectral data (1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, mass spectrometry) and elemental analysis.
