We consider the second order system x′′=f(x) with the Dirichlet boundary conditions x(0)=0=x(1), where the vector field f∈C1(Rn,Rn) is asymptotically linear and f(0)=0. We provide the existence and multiplicity results using the vector field rotation theory.

AbstractWe study existence and multiplicity results for solutions of elliptic problems of the type -Δu = g(x; u) in a bounded domain Ω with Dirichlet boundary conditions. The function g(x; s) is asymptotically linear as |s| → +∞. Also resonant situations are allowed. We also prove some perturbation results for Dirichlet problems of the type -Δu = g

AbstractWe prove the existence and multiplicity of solutions, with prescribed nodal properties, for a BVP associated with a system of asymptotically linear second order equations. The applicability of an abstract continuation theorem is ensured by upper and lower bounds on the number of zeros of each component of a solution.

In this paper, we introduce a Finite Difference Fictitious Domain Wavelet Method (FDFDWM) for solving two dimensional (2D) linear elliptic  partial differential equations (PDEs) with Dirichlet boundary conditions on regular geometric domain. The method reduces the 2D PDE into a 1D system of ordinary differential equations and applies a compactly supported wavelet to approximate the solution. The problem is embedded in a fictitious domain to aid the enforcement of the Dirichlet boundary conditions. We present numerical analysis and show that our method yields better approximation to the solution of the Dirichlet problem than traditional methods like the finite element and finite difference methods.

In this paper, we consider the Hénon problem in the ball with Dirichlet boundary conditions. We study the asymptotic profile of radial solutions and then deduce the exact computation of their Morse index when the exponent [Formula: see text] is close to [Formula: see text]. Next we focus on the planar case and describe the asymptotic profile of some solutions which minimize the energy among functions which are invariant for reflection and rotations of a given angle [Formula: see text]. By considerations based on the Morse index we see that, depending on the values of [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text], such least energy solutions can be radial, or nonradial and different one from another.

We obtain some new exact multiplicity results for the Dirichlet boundary-value problem on a unit ball Bn in Rn. We consider several classes of nonlinearities f(u), including both positive and sign-changing cases. A crucial part of the proof is to establish positivity of solutions for the corresponding linearized problem. As an application we obtain exact multiplicity results for the Holling-Tanner population model.

In this paper we prove the existence of two intervals of positive real parameters λ for a Dirichlet boundary value problem involving the p-Laplacian which admit three weak solutions, whose norms are uniformly bounded with respect to λ belonging to one of the two intervals. Our main tool is a three critical points theorem due to G. Bonanno [A critical points theorem and nonlinear differential problems, J. Global Optim., 28:249–258, 2004].
