Váňa et al. (2013) published some new combinations and synonyms of Cephaloziaceae and Cephaloziellaceae. In the present note some additional synonyms and combinations based on newly studied material, are presented.

For the coming checklist of hornworts and liverworts (Söderström et al., in press) a few validations, transfers and synonymizations in the family Lejeuneaceae are still required.

Recent redefinition of Lophoziaceae has led to many nomenclature and taxonomic changes but several problems remains. Here we discuss and make the necessary new combinations for Lophoziopsis longidens subsp. arctica, Lophoziopsis pellucida var. minor, Heterogemma patagonica and Trilophozia quinquedentata var. asymetrica. A number of new synonyms are proposed. Lophozia handelii is shown to be a synonym to Lophozia pallida and the species is treated separate from Lophozia guttulata. Four problematic names in Lophozia (Lophozia groenlandica, Lophozia murmanica, Lophozia confertifolia and Lophozia longiflora) are discussed and a conspectus of the genus is given.

The sexuality of Solenostoma species is discussed and it is concluded that Solenostoma sanguinolentum is heteroicous. This and other morphological differences from Solenostoma marcescens are discussed and they are considered to belong to the same species. Heteroicity probably also occurs in Solenostoma micranthum and possibly in other Solenostoma species. Solenostoma rossicum and Solenostoma pyriflorum subsp. purpureum are new synonyms to Solenostoma sphaerocarpum. Solenostoma ochotense is a new synonym to Solenostoma hokkaidense. Solenostoma costaricanum is a new synonym to Solenostoma amoenum. Plectocolea subbalfourii is a new synonym to Solenostoma balfourii. Solenostoma rubrum var. underwoodii is a new synonym to Solenostoma rubrum. Plectocolea yunnanensis is a new synonym to Solenostoma sikkimense. Solenostoma inundatum var. grandirete is a new synonym to Solenostoma orbiculatum. Solenostoma kurilense and Solenostoma ovalifolia are new combinations and Solenostoma philippinense a new species.

The family Cephaloziellaceae is here defined in a very broad sense based mainly on molecular studies and includes morphologically diverse elements. Necessary new combinations are made in addition to some transfers and new synonyms in Cylindrocolea and Cephaloziella.

Cololejeunea subg. Aphanolejeunea is validated. Two new combinations, one validated species name, 14 new synonyms and four new lectotypes in Cololejeunea are proposed. The genus Austrolejeunea is shown to be invalid and all species are transferred to Nephelolejeunea making three new combinations and validating five species names.

The liverwort family Frullaniaceae is circumscribed to include the single genus, Frullania, and has a complex and confusing taxonomical history. An overview is provided for the infrageneric classification adopted for the forthcoming worldwide checklist based on recent morphological and molecular studies. The genus is preliminarily subdivided into eleven subgenera, F. subg. Chonanthelia, F. subg. Diastaloba, F. subg. Diversitextae, F. subg. Frullania, F. subg. Homotropantha, F. subg. Mammillosae, F. subg. Meteoriopsis, F. subg. Microfrullania, F. subg. Saccophora, F. subg. Steerea, and F. subg. Thyopsiella, as well as several sections. However, some of the subgeneric divisions are only doubtfully recognized because there is still insufficient knowledge to arrive at a decision regarding their systematic status and placement. The taxa may be either originally not well described, not restudied recently or molecular analyses point to a more complex internal structure of the respective group. Fourteen new synonyms, eight new combinations, five new names, eight lectotypifications, and one new variety are provided.

Plagiochilaceae is here circumscribed to include 10 genera, Acrochila, Chiastocaulon, Dinckleria, Pedinophyllopsis, Pedinophyllum, Plagiochila, Plagiochilidium, Plagiochilion, Pseudolophocolea and Xenochila. For the forthcoming world checklist of hornworts and liverworts we here summarize the current knowledge and identify the sections of Plagiochila that are currently recognized by morphological and molecular studies. Plagiochila is provisionally divided into 28 sections based on recent morphological and molecular studies. Plagiochila ecuadorica and Plagiochila sciophila subsp. ciliigera are new combinations, Plagiochila umbrosioides is a nomen novum.

Cheilolejeunea boliviensis Stephani (1916: 266) is a poorly known species from Bolivia. It was listed as a doubtful taxon by Gradstein et al. (2003). Cheilolejeunea savesiana Stephani (1895: 244) is also a doubtful species and was treated as Lejeunea sp. in Reiner-Drehwald & Grolle (2012)’s review of Rectolejeunea Evans (1906: 8).
