A new variety, Geranium ocellatum var. albiflorum, is described here from Tehri district of Uttarakhand state, India. The new variety is readily distinguished from G. ocellatum var. ocellatum by its central white spot at the petal base, dichasial inflorescence and peduncle length. A detailed description, photographs and conservation status are provided for the new variety. A key to the varieties of G. ocellatum is also provided.

The paper presents a taxonomic review of Bulbophyllum section Rhytionanthos for the flora of Vietnam and provides the key for its species’ identification. A new species, B. truongtamii and a new variety, B. taeniophyllum var. denticulatoalatum are described for science. Bulbophyllum nodosum is reported for the first time from the country. Bulbophyllum strigosum, described 20 years ago based on cultivated plant of uncertain origin was rediscovered in NE Vietnam. For this species, location and detailed description are reported. Analytical photos, data on phenology, ecology, and distribution are presented for all studied species. The morphological comparison table of the new species, new variety and newly recorded species segregating them from similar species are presented.

Impatiens jurpia var. ravikumareana a new variety of Balsaminaceae is described and illustrated from Arunachal Pradesh India. The new variety resembles I. jurpia var. jurpia and I. cathcartii but differ in many attributes.

Our field surveys and specimen examination of Carex from southern to south-western regions in China resulted in the discovery of five new species and one new variety, which are here named as Carex brevihispida X.F.Jin & Y.F.Lu (in sect. Surculosae), C. puberuliutriculata Y.F.Lu & X.F.Jin (sect. Clandestinae), C. paratatsiensis Y.F.Lu & X.F.Jin (sect. Aulocystis), C. huanjiangensis S.Yun Liang ex Y.F.Lu & X.F.Jin (sect. Decorae), C. liangiana X.F.Jin & Y.F.Lu and C. thibetica Franch. var. angustifolia X.F.Jin & Y.F.Lu (sect. Rhomboidales).

Background: Mung bean is one of the important pulse crop requiring low inputs. The productivity of kharif mung bean is very low. The present improved varieties have lower yield potential and disease susceptibility. There is a need to develop high yielding varieties combined with early to mid synchronous maturity, better quality and resistance/tolerance to major pests and diseases. Methods: The green gram var. Phule Chetak was developed by pedigree selection method from a cross between SML-668 X Naval at Oilseeds Research Station, MPKV, Jalgaon. It was tested over several locations and environments for its stability performance. Result: The results indicated a significant improvement in yield level under field conditions. The new variety Phule Chetak reported an average yield of 1003 kg/ha which is 26.96%, 36.46%, 29.42%, 21.72%, 17.58% and 13.21 per cent higher than the check varieties Vaibhav, BPMR-145, AKM-8802, BM-2002-1, BM-2003-2 and Utkarsha respectively. It is bold seeded having early maturity, moderately resistant to major diseases like powdery mildew, mungbean yellow mosaic virus under field conditions. Considering its consistent performance, the mung bean genotype PM-707-5 has been released for cultivation in the kharif season for Maharashtra under the name of Phule Chetak in Joint Agresco during 29-30 October, 2020 held at Dr PDKV, Akola.

The results of studying the elements of the technology of cultivation of a new variety of winter rye Sudarushka are presented. The research took place in 2019, 2020 in the sub-taiga zone of the Tomsk region. The impact of soil cultivation methods as well as the impact of humic fertiliser from peat Gumostim on the yield of winter rye Sudarushka is evaluated. The soils of the experimental plot are acidic (pH 4.3) soddy-podzolic loamy sandy loam. The arable horizon has a low humus content (1.5%), a low (0.2 mg/100g) content of nitrate nitrogen, a medium content of mobile phosphorus (19.2) and exchangeable potassium (7.1) and a high (11.0 mg/100g) content of mobile aluminium. The scheme of the experiment included four variants of cultivation: ploughing of fallow lands with PlN-4-35 + cultivation KPN-4,2, sowing without packing and with packing; disking with BDMK-2,8 + cultivation KPN-4,2, sowing without packing and with packing. Treatment with humic fertilizer from peat Gumostim at a concentration of 0.001% was carried out during the growing season in the beginning phase of the leaf-tube formation. The average yield of winter rye in the variety Sudarushka during the years of research was 4.66 t/ha in the variant with disking, subsequent cultivation before sowing and further sowing with packing, which is 0.34 t/ha higher than with the traditional method of soil cultivation. The application of humic fertilizer from peat Gumostim on cold sod-podzolic soils enabled the average yield of winter rye to be 4.31 t/ha y, which is 0.39 t/ha higher than without the fertilizer.

<p>Keputusan untuk mengadopsi varietas atau teknologi baru, terutama bagi petani skala kecil,  sangat dipengaruhi oleh kepemilikan sumber daya. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengevaluasi pengaruh kepemilikan aset produksi petani terhadap keputusan petani menggunakan Varietas Unggul Baru (VUB) pepaya Merah Delima. Survei dilaksanakan di beberapa sentra produksi pepaya (Sumatra Barat, Riau, Jawa Timur, Jawa Tengah, dan Jawa Barat) melibatkan 46 responden terpilih yang terdiri atas 17 petani pengguna pepaya Merah Delima dan 29 petani penanam pepaya varietas lainnya. Faktor-faktor determinan penggunaan varietas dianalisis dengan menggunakan model regresi Logit dan Tobit. Ketersediaan sarana dan prasarana produksi berpengaruh signifikan terhadap keputusan petani menggunakan VUB pepaya Merah Delima. Pengaruh sarana dan prasarana produksi terhadap  probabilitas peningkatan penggunaan varietas lebih dominan dibanding pengaruh faktor-faktor lainnya. Oleh karena itu, program pengembangan VUB pepaya Merah Delima lebih lanjut disarankan perlu didukung dengan bantuan penyediaan alat semprot (sprayer) bertenaga mesin atau ditargetkan di lokasi-lokasi yang tidak terlalu bermasalah dengan tata kelola air.</p><p><strong>Keywords</strong></p><p>Adopsi; Pepaya Merah Delima; Varietas Unggul Baru</p><p><strong>Abstract</strong></p><p>The decision to adopt a new variety or technology, especially for small-scale farmers, is heavily influenced by resource ownership. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of farmer production asset ownership on farmers’ decisions to use Merah Delima papaya high yielding variety (HYV). The survey was conducted in several papaya production centers (West Sumatra, Riau, East Java, Central Java, and West Java) involving 46 selected respondents consisting of 17 farmers using Merah Delima papaya and 29 farmers growing other papaya cultivars. The determinants of farmer decision were analyzed using the Logit and Tobit regression models. The results show that the availability of production facilities and infrastructure has significant effects on farmers’ decisions to use Merah Delima papaya HYV. The influence of production facilities and infrastructure on the probability of increasing the usage of Merah Delima papaya is more dominant than the influence of other factors. Therefore, it is recommended that further Merah Delima papaya HYV development program needs to be supported by the assistance of providing farmers with machine-powered sprayers or prioritized at locations that have few water/irrigation management problems.</p>

A new variety Abrus precatorius L. var. albo-spermum Hassan, Rahman et Afroz, var. nov. is described and illustrated from Bangladesh. The new variety is closest to Abrus preactorius L., but differs by its white coloured oval shaped seeds, short gynoecium which is half the length of longer filaments and with a short style. Целью исследований являлась комплексная оценка нового сорта льна-долгунца Шанс по основным хозяйственно ценным признакам и параметрам адаптивности в условиях Северо-Западного региона на основе конкурсного сортоиспытания, проводимого в 2016-2018 годах и производственной проверки в 2019 году. ГТК за период вегетации был равен 1,98 в 2016 г., в 2017 г. – 1,60 и в 2018 г. – 0,95. Как показали расчеты индекса среды, наиболее благоприятные условия для роста и развития льна-долгунца сложились в 2017 г. (Ij = +3,98), и худшие – в 2018 г. (Ij = -3,68). Сорт Шанс раннеспелый (период вегетации 71-85 дней), высокорослый (82-88 см), относительно устойчив к фузариозу (89-94%) и полеганию (4-5 баллов), отличается высоким содержанием волокна в соломе (всего 36,0-36,5%, в том числе длинного 27,3-28,1%). По содержанию всего волокна он превышал стандарт на 2,4% (абс.), а длинного – на 0,8% (абс.) В среднем за годы исследований урожайность льносоломы составила 52,1 ц/га, семян 6,0 ц/га, что незначительно превышало стандарт соответственно на 3,6 и 7,1%. По урожайности всего льноволокна (18,9 ц/га) он достоверно превысил стандарт на 1,9 ц/га при НСР0,95 или на 10,4%. По прочности волокна, которая измеряется по разрывной нагрузке, сорт Шанс в среднем за 2 года имел равный стандарту Восход показатель (10,5 кгс), а по гибкости превосходил последнего на 2,5 мм (50,5 мм). Сорт Шанс в сравнении со стандартом в большей степени адаптирован к условиям внешней среды. Он характеризуется более низкой вариабельностью урожайности волокна по годам исследований (Cv – 4,75%), более высокой стрессоустойчивостью (-5,3) и генетической гибкостью. Сорт Шанс пластичный (bi – 0,91), относится к сортам нейтрального типа, которые слабо отзываются на улучшение условий среды, но более эффективны на более низких агрофонах и в зонах рискованного земледелия, к которым относится и Псковская область. В производственных условиях урожайность льноволокна у нового сорта составила 22,5 ц/га, что на 2,0 ц или 12,1% больше стандарта (НСР0,95 – 0,92 ц/га). В настоящее время сорт находится в государственном сортоиспытании. The purpose of the research was a comprehensive assessment of a new variety of flax «Chance» according to the main economically valuable characteristics and adaptability parameters in the conditions of the North-Western region on the basis of a competitive variety testing conducted in 2016-2018 and a production inspection in 2019. The SCC for the growing season was equal to 1.98 in 2016, 1.60 in 2017 and 0.95 in 2018. As the calculations of the environment index showed, the most favorable conditions for the growth and development of flax were formed in 2017 (Ij = +3.98), and the worst-in 2018 (Ij = -3.68). The «Chance» variety is early-maturing (the growing season is 71-85 days), tall (82-88 cm), relatively resistant to fusarium (89-94%) and lodging (4-5 points), has a high fiber content in straw (only 36.0-36.5%, including 27.3- 28.1% long). In terms of the content of the entire fiber, it exceeded the standard by 2.4% (abs.), and the long fiber -by 0.8% (abs.). On average, over the years of research, the yield of flax straw was 52.1 c/ha, seeds 6.0 c/ha, which slightly exceeded the standard by 3.6 and 7.1%, respectively. In terms of the yield of all flax fiber (18.9 c/ha), it significantly exceeded the standard by 1.9 c/ha at NSR0.95 or by 10.4%. According to the strength of the fiber, which is measured by the breaking load, the «Chance» grade on average for 2 years had an indicator equal to the standard of the Sunrise (10.5 kgf), and in terms of flexibility it exceeded the latter by 2.5 mm (50.5 mm). The «Chance» variety is more adapted to the environmental conditions in comparison with the standard. It is characterized by a lower variability of fiber yield over the years of research (Cv-4.75), higher stress resistance (-5.3) and genetic flexibility. The plastic «Chance» variety (bi – 0.91) belongs to neutral-type varieties that respond poorly to improving environmental conditions, but are more effective at lower agricultural zones and in risky farming zones, which include the Pskov region. Under production conditions, the yield of flax fiber in the new variety was 22.5 c/ha, which is 2.0 c or 12.1% more than the standard (NSR0,95-0.92 c/ha). Currently, the variety is in the state variety testing.
