A new species of Quercus (Fagaceae), Q. ngochoaensis, from Ba Vi National Park, Ha Noi, northern Vietnam is described and illustrated. This species is morphologically similar to Q. glauca in having glabrous twigs, cuneate leaf base, two or three fruits per infructescence, almost entire margin of lamellate rings on cupule except the lowest three rings, slightly convex scar at the base of a nut. However, it differs from Q. glauca in having smaller leaves, cup-shaped cupule enclosing 1/2–2/3 of the nut, 7–8 lamellate rings on cupule, and subglobose nut. In addition to the description, DNA barcodes of the two partial plastid regions of matK, rbcL and the nuclear region of ITS of the new species are provided.

The new species is characterized by thinly chartaceous leaves with 2–3 mm long petiole, 1–3 flowered inflorescences, downward facing white flowers, well-developed petal appendages (1/3–1/2 length of petals) and entirely free 3 styles. A description, illustrations, DNA barcodes of rbcL and matK and a key to the species of Erythroxylum in Indochina are provided.

A new species of the genus Eurostocepheus (Oribatida, Otocepheidae) is described from soil and litter of Tam Dao National Park in Northern Vietnam. Eurostocepheus (Eurostocepheus) wojciechniedbalai sp. nov. is morphologically most similar to E. (E.) mahunkai Mondal & Kundu, 1999 from India in the presence of four pairs of genital setae and medial prodorsal condyles, but differs by the quadrangular, anteromedially excavated lateral notogastral condyles, short interlamellar setae, short notogastral setae c, minute epimeral setae 1a, 2a, 3a, two pairs of epimeral setae on epimere IV, and by the transverse position of the anal setae. Revised generic and subgeneric diagnoses, an identification key to the known taxa, and data on the distribution and ecology of Eurostocepheus are presented.

The genus Manoa and the tribe Pseudochironomini are recorded from the Oriental region for the first time. Manoa xianjuensis Qi & Lin sp. n. from Xianju National Park, Zhejiang, China is described and illustrated as adult male and female, the latter associated with the male by standard DNA barcodes. A neighbor joining tree based on available Pseudochironomini DNA barcodes and keys to the adults in Manoa are given.

Heliogomphus bidentatus sp. nov. (holotype male: Tam Dao National Park, Vinh Phuc Prov., northern Vietnam) is described from north and central Vietnam. This new species is similar to H. scorpio (Ris, 1912), but can be separated by the coloration of the thorax and details of the male caudal appendages. Information on its biology and ecology is provided.

Begonia catbensis, a new species in Begonia sect. Coelocentrum is described and illustrated. The new species was discovered in lowland limestone hills at Cat Ba National Park and can be easily distinguished from all its congeners by having dendritic hairs on the petiole, adaxial veins and stipules, fimbriate bracts and bracteoles, dense conical bullae on the upper surface of the leaf blade, two tepals in the pistillate flowers and a glabrescent ovary with verrucose wings. Based on IUCN Criteria, the species is currently assessed as “Endangered” (D).

A new species of Dasymaschalon (Annonaceae), D. bachmaensis, from Bạch Mã NP, Thừa Thiên-Huế Province from North Central Coast region, Vietnam, is described and illustrated here. It shares several characteristics with D. glaucum, D. sootepense and D. wallichii (the leaves are glaucous, the petals are somewhat ovate and spirally twisted when mature, the stamen connectives are truncate and glabrous, the ovaries are hairy, and the stigmas are glabrous) but differs from them in having an obtuse leaf base, larger triangular-ovate sepals that are hairy on both surfaces, pale greenish-yellow petals, fewer stamens, smaller fruits that are not constricted between seeds, and smaller subglobose seeds. Details on distribution, ecology, phenology preliminary conservation assessment of D. bachmaensis, a key to Dasymaschalon species in Vietnam and a distribution map are provided.
