Abstract The resonant photon energy of an adjustable-phase undulator (APU) is varied with the relative motion of the magnet arrays along the longitudinal direction. There exists, however, a transverse field gradient (TFG) of order 100 T/m in an APU of small gap (∼10 mm). Whereas the TFG might affect the electron beam as it contributes to the dynamic field integral and the radiation integrals, the TFG might also degrade the performance of the synchrotron radiation due to the transverse position-dependent magnetic field. The effects of the TFG on the present Taiwan Photon Source (TPS) and future TPS-upgraded are analyzed to investigate the feasibility of an APU that operates in the soft x-ray region.

Ultrasound-guided quadratus lumborum block (QLB) is a locoregional technique described in canine cadavers. The aim of this study was to assess a modified approach to QLB to minimise potential complications such as abdominal organ puncture. Nine canine cadavers were included and were positioned in lateral recumbency. An ultrasound-guided QLB was performed on each side. The probe was placed in the transverse position over the lumbar muscles just caudal to the last rib, and a needle was advanced in-plane from a dorso-lateral to a ventro-medial. A volume of 0.2 mL kg−1 of a mixture of iomeprol and methylene blue was injected. Computed tomography (CT) and dissection were performed to evaluate the spreading. Success was defined as staining of the nerve with a length of more than 0.6 cm. Potential complications such as intra-abdominal, epidural, or intravascular spreading of the mixture were also assessed. The CT images showed a T13 to L7 vertebra distribution, with a median of 5 (3–6). Dissection showed staining of the nerves from T13 to L4, with a median of 3 (2–5). No complications were found. This modified approach to QLB is safe and shows similar results to the previous studies in canine carcass.

Particle therapy in which deep seated tumours are treated using 12C ions (Carbon Ions RadioTherapy or CIRT) exploits the high conformity in the dose release, the high relative biological effectiveness and low oxygen enhancement ratio of such projectiles. The advantages of CIRT are driving a rapid increase in the number of centres that are trying to implement such technique. To fully profit from the ballistic precision achievable in delivering the dose to the target volume an online range verification system would be needed, but currently missing. The 12C ions beams range could only be monitored by looking at the secondary radiation emitted by the primary beam interaction with the patient tissues and no technical solution capable of the needed precision has been adopted in the clinical centres yet. The detection of charged secondary fragments, mainly protons, emitted by the patient is a promising approach, and is currently being explored in clinical trials at CNAO. Charged particles are easy to detect and can be back-tracked to the emission point with high efficiency in an almost background-free environment. These fragments are the product of projectiles fragmentation, and are hence mainly produced along the beam path inside the patient. This experimental signature can be used to monitor the beam position in the plane orthogonal to its flight direction, providing an online feedback to the beam transverse position monitor chambers used in the clinical centres. This information could be used to cross-check, validate and calibrate, whenever needed, the information provided by the ion chambers already implemented in most clinical centres as beam control detectors. In this paper we study the feasibility of such strategy in the clinical routine, analysing the data collected during the clinical trial performed at the CNAO facility on patients treated using 12C ions and monitored using the Dose Profiler (DP) detector developed within the INSIDE project. On the basis of the data collected monitoring three patients, the technique potential and limitations will be discussed.

In this study on characterization of bambusa vulgaris fibers from Cameroon (BV), we evaluated the linear density as well as the moisture uptake. With the help of SEM, the cross-sections were observed to be circular shapes; they increase from outside to inside in any transverse position along the stem. Also, the degradation temperature of BV was investigated with the aid of TGA and the result showed that the degradation temperature of BV fibers is between 366 °C and 380 °C. In addition, their Young's moduli in dynamic tensile test was determined and it was noticed that the Young moduli increase from inside to outside. The bending tests of BV fibers were carried out and enable the various parameters in zone 3/3. Finally, the creep behavior of BV fibers was studied and it was revealed that the 4-element Burger model describes very well this phenomenon and could help in well predicting fatigue behaviour of BV fibers reinforced composites.

The issues of filling the information model with data on the state of the wheel-rail tribosystem are considered. The “Program for modeling the transverse position of a wheelset in a track” is used, and the main modules of the program are described. The geometrical parameters of the contact of the wheel profile with the rail profile are obtained. The values of the nominal contact of the wheel with the rail for the extreme and intermediate positions of the wheel pair in the rail track are calculated. The displacement of the wheelset in the rail track, its slope, and the width of the contact of the wheel with the rail, the gap between the wheel crest and the inner face of the rail are determined. The obtained data are compared with the results of the experiment.

Almost all obstetricians agree that with the transverse position of the fetus, since the bladder is intact and the rotation with external methods has failed, it is necessary to wait for the full opening of the pharynx, immediately after that - to make an internal rotation and immediately afterwards the fetus is removed.

Mm. Yy! Over the past time, you have never had to observe during practical work in the Likhachevsky maternity hospital, the difficulty of childbirth, because of the wrong positions or wrong turns of the baby during childbirth. So, you saw the transverse position of the fetus during childbirth, the irregular cranial, cranial with the presentation of the handles of the fetus, requiring the intervention of art for the end of childbirth; they also saw not how the posterior types of cranial positions during childbirth did not go into the anterior, but the birth took place with the back of the fetus facing backward, causing more or less difficulty in childbirth, sometimes also requiring the intervention of art; Finally, you have not seen cases when the presenting head of the fetus during childbirth did not make the proper turns, or made incorrect, sometimes excessive, and in many of these cases you observed a very early appearance of signs of intrauterine asphyxiation of the fetus, which began to be difficult to explain and did not for the salvation of the baby of the immediate end of the delivery by an operative way. Undoubtedly, such cases raised in you first of all the question of why they happened, why they were caused and why they could not have been prevented, were foreseen and would have been normal for the course of labor in such cases. I wish to sort out the ethology of these irregularities in the present section and then give you answers to questions that arise involuntarily.
