Efficient and durable OLEDs of cyan, greenish yellow, yellow and white colors were fabricated in simple structures with Pt–Cpy bonded complexes, giving state-of-the-art tuning the color of electroluminescence.

Scouting for novel and plant-derived biomolecules from endophytic microbial sources draws greater focus on the discovery of novel bioactive metabolites. With this rationale, we scouted the endophytic fungi for taxol, an anticancer diterpenoid and fluorescent biomolecules. In the present study, about 31 endophytic fungal isolates recovered from the Mangifera indica leaves were screened for taxol production in M1D medium. About five isolates were shortlisted based on the thin layer chromatographic analysis of the fungal extracts. Among them Colletotrichum sp. MIP-5 has been identified as a producer of fungal taxol based on UV, FTIR, TLC and HPLC analysis. The partially purified fungal taxol showed similar spectral and chromatographic features of commercially available paclitaxel. In addition to this, we also report the production of a fluorescent compound by Penicillium sp. MIP-3. The Flavin-like compound exhibited a bright greenish-yellow fluorescence with an emission maximum in the range of 505 – 545nm. GC-MS analysis showed the occurrence of Latia luciferin, primarily associated with the bioluminescence of freshwater limpet Latia neritoides. This is the first report of this compound from Penicillium sp. In addition, therapeutically active steroid (β-Sitosterol, Stigmasterol, Campesterol), quinones (Benzo[h]quinoline, 2,4-dimethyl-) and phloroglucinol (Aspidinol) derivatives were also identified from Penicillium sp. MIP-3 based on GC-MS analysis. These molecules could potentially be used in biological and pharmaceutical applications in future.

The small fruitbodies of Chlorosplenium are greenish yellow and mainly grow on woody substrates. The species diversity of the genus in China was investigated based on specimens formerly deposited in the Herbarium Mycologicum Academiae Sinicae as well as new collections gained in recent years. Our phylogenetic results revealed the species diversity of the genus is underestimated and the commonly known Chlorosplenium chlora is a species complex. Based on morphology studies and sequence analyses of three regions (ITS, LSU and RPB1), the Chinese collections represent two new species which are described and illustrated here as C. sinicum and C. sinochlora. Chlorosplenium fusisporum is quite possibly a species of the genus Chlorociboria, and C. hyperici-maculati should be excluded from the genus.

Guava (Psidium guajava L.), a rich source of nutrients, is an important tropical and subtropical fruit of the Myrtaceae family and exhibits magnificent diversity. Genetic diversity analysis is the first step toward the identification of parents for hybridization, genetic mapping, and molecular breeding in any crop species. A diversity analysis based on whole-genome functional markers increases the chances of identifying genetic associations with agronomically important traits. Therefore, here, we sequenced the genome of guava cv. Allahabad Safeda on an Illumina platform and generated a draft assembly of ~304 MB. The assembly of the Allahabad Safeda genome constituted >37.95% repeat sequences, gene prediction with RNA-seq data as evidence identified 14,115 genes, and BLAST n/r, Interproscan, PfamScan, BLAST2GO, and KEGG annotated 13,957 genes. A comparative protein transcript analysis of tree species revealed the close relatedness of guava with Eucalyptus. Comparative transcriptomics-based SSR/InDel/SNP-PCR ready genome-wide markers in greenish-yellow skinned and white fleshed-Allahabad Safeda to four contrasting cultivars viz apple-color-skinned and white-fleshed-Lalima, greenish-yellow-skinned and pink-fleshed-Punjab Pink, purple-black-skinned and purple-fleshed-Purple Local and widely used rootstock-Lucknow-49 were developed. The molecular markers developed here revealed a high level of individual heterozygosity within genotypes in 22 phenotypically diverse guava cultivars. Principal coordinate, STRUCTURE clustering, and neighbor-joining-based genetic diversity analysis identified distinct clusters associated with fruit skin and flesh color. The genome sequencing of guava, functional annotation, comparative transcriptomics-based genome-wide markers, and genetic diversity analysis will expand the knowledge of genomes of climacteric fruits, facilitating trait-based molecular breeding and diversifying the nutritional basket.

A new species Anemone pindariensis discovered from the valley near Pindari Glacier of Western Himalaya, India is described and illustrated. This new species is closely related to A. rivularis, but differs from the latter in the sepal and stamen characters. A. pindariensis has densely hairy (vs. glabrous in A. rivularis), rounded to elliptic to oblong (vs. ovate to obovate), 4–5 (vs. 5–8) sepals, greenish-yellow sepals (vs. white-blue sepals of A. rivularis), circinnately arranged staminodes around the stamens (vs. absence of staminodes), densely hairy filaments (vs. glabrous) and oblong (vs. ellipsoid or ovoid) anthers.

Seed coat color is one of the main agronomical traits that determine the chemical quality of soybean seeds and has been used as a parameter during cultivar development. In this study, seeds of yellow (n = 10), greenish-yellow (n = 5), and light-yellow (n = 4) soybean accessions were evaluated for their contents of total protein, total oil, total phenolic (TPC), and five prominent fatty acids including palmitic acid (PA), stearic acid (SA), oleic acid (OA), linoleic acid (LA), and linolenic acid (LLA), relative to a control cultivar, and the effect of seed coat color on each was investigated. Antioxidant activity was also evaluated using 1,1-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activity, Trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity (TEAC), and ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP). The results showed significant variations of metabolite contents and antioxidant activities between the soybeans. The average TPC, DPPH-radical scavenging activity, and FRAP were each in the order of greenish-yellow > yellow > light-yellow soybeans. In contrast, light-yellow soybeans contained a high level of OA and low levels of SA, LA, and LLA, each except LA differing significantly from yellow and greenish-yellow soybeans (p < 0.05). Our findings suggest that greenish-yellow and light-yellow soybeans could be good sources of antioxidants and high-quality soybean oil, respectively.

  A study was conducted on twenty five genotypes of seedling Mangoes to examine fruit morphological characters. Fruit shape of the evaluated germplasm varied enormously and fruits of obovoid, elliptic, round and oblong shapes were found. Fruit apex shape in the evaluated plants was round, acute and obtuse. Depth of fruit stalk cavity was either absent, shallow and of medium type, whereas, fruit neck prominence was absent to slightly prominent in the tested plants. Shape of fruit ventral shoulder was varied and found to be slopping abruptly, rising and then rounded and long curve type in the evaluated germplasm. Fruit beak varies from pointed to perceptible type and fruit sinus was absent to shallow type in the fruits from different plants. Fruit attractiveness varies from very good to excellent and fruit colour from greenish yellow to green colour of fruit skin at maturity was noted in fruits from selected trees. Peel colour of AA-15 was different amongst all the genotypes which were green with red blush. Pulp colour varied from light orange, yellow orange, orange yellow, yellow and light yellow, whereas, pulp texture was soft to intermediate in the evaluated germplasm. Purpose: This report describes a case of West African crystalline maculopathy. Methods: A case report is presented. Results: A 71-year-old Nigerian man was referred for evaluation of bilateral crystalline retinal deposits seen on routine examination. The patient had no acute visual symptoms and no significant ocular history except for cataract extraction and intraocular lens implantation in both eyes. Dilated fundocscopic examination was notable for bilateral greenish-yellow, foveocentric intraretinal crystalline deposits, which were visible on color fundus photography, multicolor confocal scanning laser ophthalmoscopy, and spectral-domain optical coherance tomography. The crystalline deposits were not associated with abnormal short-wavelength autofluorescence or fluorescein angiography findings. Conclusions: A diagnosis of West African crystalline maculopathy was made after other causes of crystalline maculopathy were excluded.
