One New Species

One new species of Copris Geoffroy from Sonora and Chihuahua is described and illustrated: Copris warneri sp. nov. The new species is closely related to C. arizonensis Schaeffer. Drawings of the male and female and a distribution map are included. New distributional records for C. arizonensis Schaeffer and C. martinezi Matthews and Halffter are provided.

A New Species

We describe Dinacoma sanfelipe sp. nov. from southern California, the first new species belonging to the melolonthine scarab beetle genus Dinacoma Casey, 1889 (Scarabaeidae: Melolonthinae: Melolonthini) to be described in 90 years, based upon examination of 141 specimens of that genus. Diagnostic comments, a dichotomous key, photographs of all species of Dinacoma, and a distribution map are presented to facilitate the identification of adult male specimens.  One species in the genus is federally listed under the United States Endangered Species act, and all known species may be of conservation concern. Key words: Scarabaeoidea, Melolonthini, scarab beetle, insect conservation, cryptic species

The milliped genus Pseudotremia Cope 1869 as it occurs in Virginia, USA, is reviewed, with new records and species, mostly from caves. Seventeen new species, Pseudotremia loomisi, P. contorta, P. cerberus, P. pomarium, P. orndorffi, P. peponocranium, P. glaber, P. fergusoni, P. jaculohamatum, P. fremens, P. hubbardi, P. ryensis, P. piscator, P. culveri, P. salfodina, P. johnholsingeri and P. inexpectata are described, for a total Virginia fauna of 25 species. Additional species are predicted to occur. New locality records are given for seven previously described species, Pseudotremia alecto Shear 1972, P. hobbsi Hoffman 1950, P. sublevis Loomis 1944, P. tuberculata Loomis 1939, P. momus Shear 1972, P. nodosa Loomis 1939, and P. valga Loomis 1943. Taxonomic characters useful in delimiting species of Pseudotremia are discussed.

AbstractOne new species, Acanthoscelides tridenticulatus, is described from Mimosa strigillosa Torr. and Gray in Texas, and from specimens collected in Louisiana and Texas.Erroneous records of Bruchidae having been reared from native Mimosa in the United States are corrected. These are: Merobruchus julianus (Horn) (Not synonym Bruchus ochreolineatus Fall) from Acacia greggii Gray, Not Mimosa fragrans; Acanthoscelides chiricahuae (Fall), Not Bruchus schrankiae Horn, from M. borealis Gray; and A. distinguendus (Horn) from Rhynchosia americana (Mill.) Metz, NOTM. strigillosa. All of these constitute new host records.The following new host records are reported: Acanthoscelides chiricahuae (Fall) from Mimosa biuncifera Benth. in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and Coahuilla, Mexico; and from M. dysocarpa Benth. and M. grahamii Gray in Arizona, A. quadridentatus (Schaeffer) from M. pigra var. berlandieri (Gray) Turner and M. strigillosa in Texas, and from M. pigra var. pigra L. in Nicaragua and Panama. A. speciosus (Schaeffer) from M. malacophylla Gray in Texas, from M. biuncifera in Arizona, and from M. galeottii Benth. in Morelos, Mexico. Stator pruininus (Horn) from M. biuncifera in Texas and Mexico; and from M. dysocarpa in Arizona.

A New Species

A new Eridantes Crosby & Bishop (1933) species, E. diodontos n. sp., discovered in the United States in the state of Arizona and in Mexico in the state and city of San Luis Potosí, is described and illustrated. Both males and females are very similar to the respective sexes of the type species, E. erigonoides (Emerton 1882), but can be distinguished by the higher cephalic lobe, position of the prosomal pit, and the form of the palpal tibia in the male and by the convolution of the m-shaped carinae of the epigynum in the female. Comparative illustrations of the male bulb of E. erigonoides and a distribution map of the three known species are also provided. Pending formal taxonomic revision of Eridantes, a revised diagnosis and a brief description of the genus are presented based on examination of specimens of the type species and of the new species described here. The mesal rather than ectal position of the paracymbium and the broadly divided dorsal and ventral sclerites of the largely membranous radix are proposed synapomorphies that distinguish Eridantes from all similar genera.

In this paper we describe Canthidium quercetorum new species (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Scarabaeinae), a species that inhabits dry oak forest in the Mexican state of Oaxaca, between 2100 and 2300 m above sea level. Photographs and an illustration of the habitus and a distribution map are provided. The unusual distribution and ecology of this species are discussed. An updated key for the genus in Mexico and the United States of America is also presented.

New synonymies in Clytini: Clytopsis Casey, 1912 is synonymized with Ochraethes Chevrolat, 1860; and Ochraethes nigritus Bates, 1892 is synonymized with O. viridiventris (Chevrolat, 1860). New records: Neoclytus acteon (Chevrolat, 1860) (Clytini) is reported for the first time from Nicaragua; and Heterachthes hildebranti Galileo & Santos-Silva, 2016 (Neoibidionini, Compsina) is reported for the first time from the Mexican state of Jalisco. The description of one new species of Ascodipteron and another one of Nycteribosca is based on the material collected in Africa and Madagascar respectively by Mr H. Hoogstraal, of the United States Naval Medical Research Unit No. 3. These specimens represent a part of the collection which was sent to me for identification by Mr R. L. Wenzel of the Chicago Natural History Museum. In this paper I have also included the description of another new species of Ascodipteron of which two specimens were collected by Mr T. S. Jones in West Africa.
