Eriophyoid mites infesting spurges (Euphorbiaceae) were surveyed in Kandovan and Govgan, southwest of East Azerbai-jan Province in Iran, during 2010 and 2011. Two new species are described and illustrated: Aculops seguieranae n. sp.from Euphorbia seguierana Necker and Euphorbia cheiradenia Boiss. et Hohen, and Aceria cheiradeniae n. sp. from E. cheiradenia. No damage symptoms were observed.

From a survey for Phytophthora spp. in containment basins at one nursery each in Alabama and Mississippi, eight species and one taxon were recovered, with Phytophthora gonapodyides dominant in cooler months and P. hydropathica in warmer months, accounting for 39.6 and 46.6% overall recovery, respectively. Among the recoveries were P. macilentosa, P. mississippiae, and P. stricta, three new species recently described from a small lake (labeled M4) that serves as a primary water source for irrigation and to feed another irrigation pond (M5) at the Mississippi nursery. Neither of ponds M4 and M5 directly receives runoff from any production area. The three new species were tested for pathogenicity with Catharanthus roseus, Gardenia jasminoides ‘August Beauty,’ Hydrangea quercifolia ‘Semmes Beauty,’ Ilex magland ‘Oakland,’ Pieris japonica ‘Mountain Snow,’ and Rhododendron × ‘Brandi Michele Raley.’ None of the three species infected any of the test plants or became established in peat or pine bark growing media. Based on the result of pathogenicity trials as well as the field observation that none of the nine Phytophthora taxa recovered from irrigation reservoirs have caused episodic disease in the nurseries, they appear to not present a high risk to ornamental plants at those nurseries.

A new vagrant eriophyoid mite species, collected from plant material imported into the United Kingdom, is described and illustrated: Aceria argentae n. sp. found on Leucadendron argenteum (L.) R. Br. (Proteaceae) from South Africa. A review of the eriophyoid mite species known from plants in the Proteaceae is also provided and recent findings of non-native eriophyoid mites in the United Kingdom are discussed.

New records of six water mite species (Acari: Hydrachnidia) from interstitial waters of India are reported; three of them, viz. Atractides panesari, Albaxona indica and Axonopsis periyar are described as new to science. Atractides gracilis Jin, 1997 is replaced with Atractides jini nom. nov. Moreover, an additional description of the female of Atractides biscutatus Cook, 1967 is given.

Up to now, 64 genera and 178 eriophyoid mite species are known to occur on the Fagaceae. We described and illustrated herein seven new genera and eleven new eriophyoid species associated with plants in the family Fagaceae, collected from eleven provinces in China. They are: Bariella spinishieldis sp. nov. on Quercus sp.; Calesalquia tiantangzhaica gen. nov. & sp. nov. on Quercus sp.; Acaphyllisa quinqueridges sp. nov. on Cyclobalanopsis glauca; Jiangsuacarus huaguoshanensis gen. nov. & sp. nov. on Quercus sp.; Spinacarus guniujiangensis gen. nov. & sp. nov. on Cyclobalanopsis glauca; Calvittacus chenius sp. nov. on Quercus chenii; Cereusacarus maopingensis gen. nov. & sp. nov. on Cyclobalanopsis glauca; Neovittacus shitaicus gen. nov. & sp. nov. on Quercus sp.; Paracaliphytoptus yangensis gen. nov. & sp. nov. on Cyclobalanopsis glauca; Shaanxicarus glaucaer gen. nov. & sp. nov. on Cyclobalanopsis glauca; and Rhyncaphytoptus qimenensis sp. nov. on Cyclobalanopsis glauca. An updated checklist and a key to the eriophyoid mite genera on the Fagaceae are provided. Three new combinations are given: Jiangsuacarus abietis (Kuang & Luo, 2005) comb. nov. on Abies fabri (Pinaceae); Jiangsuacarus dolichocladae (Song, Xue & Hong, 2008) comb. nov. on Bambusa dolichoclada (Poaceae); and Coptophylla querci (Chandrapatya & Boczek, 2000), comb. nov. on Quercus mespilifolioidea (Fagaceae).

AbstractTwo new genera and three new species of feather mites (Astigmata, Pterolichoidea, Analgoidea) are described from two closely related species of cockatoos, Cacatua galerita (type host) and C. sulphurea (Psittaciformes, Cacatuidae): Astrolabelichus caudatus gen. nov., sp. nov. (Pterolichidae), Psittophagus lacunosus sp. nov. (Pterolichidae), and Cacatualges microdiscus gen. nov., sp. nov. (Xolalgidae). The presence of the same set of mite species on these two species of parrots points to a very close affinity of Cacatua sulphurea and C. galerita and gives additional support for the recent hypothesis of the conspecificity of these birds.
