Revision of the Micronoctuidae species occurring in the Russian Far East and neighbouring countries with description of a new species (Lepidoptera, Noctuoidea)

The family Micronoctuidae and the genus Micronoctua Fibiger, 1997 are reported from the Russian Far East and neighbouring countries for the first time. The family is represented in the region by two species in the genera Mimachrostia Sugi, 1982 and Micronoctua both occurring in Russian Far East, Korea, China and Japan. The northern distribution limit of the family Micronoctuidae is the middle of the Amur River (50°31΄N, 137°035΄E), reached by Mimachrostia fasciata Sugi, 1982. The new species, Micronoctua occi, sp. n. is described from Russian Far East, the Korean peninsula, China and the Tsushima Islands of Japan. The male and female genitalia are illustrated and compared with those of Micronoctua karsholti. Distribution maps for the two species are presented.

Two new species of Beckidia Sæther, B. biraensis and B. connexa, from the Amur River Basin are described and figured as males. The male of B. tethys (Townes) is redescribed and figured and the species is recorded for the first time from Russia. The generic diagnosis is emended and a key to the males of Beckidia from the Holarctic Region is given.

The family Diplomaragnidae Attems, 1907 of the Asian part of Russia is reviewed and shown to comprise 11 genera and 60 species + 1 dubious species. Two genera and seven species are described here as new to science: Alineuma gen. nov., with type species A. rodionovi sp. nov. and Litovkia gen. nov., with the type species L. anisimovka sp. nov., Diplomaragna budilovi sp. nov., Diplomaragna dentifer sp. nov., Pacifiosoma shabalini sp. nov., Pacifiosoma acutum sp. nov., Pacifiosoma triangulatum sp. nov. Pacifiosoma asperum Mikhaljova, 2016 is recorded from the Primorsky Krai for the first time. Five genera are endemic to the Asian part of Russia. At the species level, the rate of endemism amounts to 91.7%. A key is given to all species of Diplomaragnidae presently known from Siberia and the Russian Far East. The distributions of the region’s diplomaragnids are discussed. Taxonomic remarks are provided for many species.

Nemoura sirotskii sp. n. (Plecoptera, Nemouridae) is described as a new stonefly species from the tributary streams of Zeya Reservoir (Amur River Basin) in the south of the Russian Far East. Detailed descriptions and illustrations are provided for the larvae and adult specimens. The diagnostic characters distinguishing it from sympatric species N. arctica are discussed.

The canaliculatus species group of Stenus (Nestus) is redefined. Four new Palaearctic species of the group are described and illustrated: S. (N.) alopex sp. nov. from the Putorana Highland and Taymyr Peninsula, Russia; S. (N.) canalis sp. nov. from SE Siberia and the Russian Far East; S. (N.) canosus sp. nov. from the Narat Mt Ridge, Chinese Tien Shan; S. (N.) delitor sp. nov. from C & SE Siberia. New distributional data as well as brief analyses of old records for fourteen species described earlier are provided from both Palaearctic and Nearctic material. S. (N.) milleporus Casey, 1884 (= sectilifer Casey, 1884) is revalidated as a species propria. S. (N.) sphaerops Casey, 1884 is redescribed; its aedeagus is figured for the first time; the aedeagus of S. (N.) caseyi Puthz, 1972 as well as aedeagi of eight previously described Palaearctic species are illustrated anew. A key for the identification of all the known Palaearctic species of the group is given. A morphology and ecology based analysis of the main evolutionary trends within the group is provided. A lectotype is designated for S. (N.) melanopus Marsham, 1802; its Siberian and NE European records are supposed to be erroneous; the monotypic melanopus species group is erected.

A review of Globimesosoma Xiao et Huang, 2001 is given. The genus is recorded from the Palaearctic region for the first time. A new species, Globimesosoma amurense sp. nov., is described from the Russian Far East. Type material of the only previously known Oriental species, Globimesosoma yaoarum Xiao et Huang, 2001, is redescribed and illustrated. A key for the two known species of Globimesosoma is provided.

The Palaearctic xiphydriid genus Konowia Brauns, 1884, is redefined and the component species are revised on the basis of a close examination of stability and taxonomic use of previously used and newly introduced characters. A new genus, Monoxiphia, is proposed for Konowia harai Shinohara, 2019, from Japan (Monoxiphia harai (Shinohara, 2019), n. comb.) and Xiphydriola Semenov-Tian-Shanskij, 1921, is synonymized with Konowia. Konowia is represented by the following four species: K. betulae (Enslin, 1911) from Europe, through Siberia, Korea to Japan (Hokkaido, Kunashiri Is.), K. kojimai, n. sp., from Japan (Hokkaido, Honshu), K. megapolitana Brauns, 1884 from Europe to the Russian Far East, and K. yasumatsui (Togashi, 1972) from Japan (Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu). Xiphydriola amurensis Semenov-Tian-Shanskij, 1921, and Platyxiphydria nishijimai Togashi, 1998, are synonymized with K. betulae and a new species, K. kojimai, is described from Japan. Konowia yasumatsui is newly recorded from Honshu and Shikoku and the male of this species is described for the first time. A key to separate Monoxiphia, Konowia and four Konowia species is provided.

The three species and two subspecies of the Evagetes crassicornis species-group are reviewed. A new species, Evagetes orientalis, sp. nov., is described and illustrated from the Russian Far East. A lectotype of Pompilus sahlbergi F. Morawitz 1893 is redescribed. Evagetes crassicornis crassicornis (Shuckard) is recorded for the first time from Ukraine, Georgia, Kazakhstan, and Alaska. A key is presented for both sexes of this species-group.

Japanese species of Microtendipes are reviewed. Eleven names proposed in this genus, including Russian M. sakhalinensis Zorina, 2001, are synonymized with M. umbrosus Freeman, 1955, for which male and female adults, pupa and larva are redescribed based on specimens collected from Japan. Two species, M. shoukomaki Sasa, 1989 and M. famiefeus Sasa, 1996, are validated based on the re-examination of type specimens and are redescribed based on specimens newly collected from Japan. Descriptions of the larva of M. shoukomaki and the female adult, pupa and larva of M. famiefeus are given here for the first time. Microtendipes chloris (Meigen, 1818) sensu Sasa is redescribed as a new species, M. parachloris Niitsuma & Tang sp. nov., based on the male adult. Additionally, synonymic notes of Polypedilum (Cerobregma) yamasinense (Tokunaga, 1940) comb. nov. and P. (Polypedilum) tsukubaense (Sasa, 1979), transferred from Microtendipes, are given. Polypedilum kamotertium Sasa, 1989 and M. iriocedeus Sasa & Suzuki, 2000 are synonymized with the above two species, respectively, based on each original description.         The distribution of M. umbrosus extends from Africa to the Russian Far East and East Asia (Japan, China), and Australia and Thailand (with new distributions reported here). Although no African type material is examined here, the morphological features of those populations are consistent with Freeman’s concept.
