Review of Nilodosis Kieffer (Diptera: Chironomidae: Chironominae), with description of a new species from South China

The male, female and pupa of Nilodosis austrosinensis Tang & Cranston, sp. n., reared from 2 reservoirs of south China, are described. The male can be separated from congeners by the presence of few squamal setae, a relatively long spur on the mid– and hind legs, a characteristic superior volsella and distinctive pattern of all legs. The female can be separated by features of genitalia, namely the absence of a ventrolateral lobe and the dorsomesal lobe with the apex usually curved. The pupa is separable by a bare tergite VIII and by characteristic spinulation of the sternites. The generic diagnosis is emended and some problems alluded to. This is the first formal record of Nilodosis from the Oriental region, indeed the first outside the Afrotropical region.

Phanerotoma conopomorphae sp. nov. (Cheloninae (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) is described and illustrated; a solitary parasitoid of the litchi fruit borer Conopomorpha sinensis Bradley (Lepidoptera: Gracillariidae) of Litchi chinensis Sonn. in Guangdong (South China). The new species is compared with related species from the Oriental region.

The genus Chaetonerius Hendel has 25 valid species, predominantly distributed in the Afrotropical Region with only three species recorded for the Oriental Region. Herein, we describe a new species, Chaetonerius colavitei sp. n., from material collected in Thailand and Malaysia.

A New Species

The genus Trachyoribates Berlese, 1908 (Oribatida, Haplozetidae) comprises two species, which are distributed in the Oriental region and New Guinea. A new species of Trachyoribates is described from forest litter in Malaysia. Trachyoribates viktortsoii sp. nov. is morphologically most similar to Trachyoribates annobonicus Pérez-Íñigo, 1981 in having long interlamellar setae and tridactylous legs, but differs from the latter by the entirely reticulate body surface, five pairs of genital setae and 11 pairs of notogastral setal alveoli, including dp. A revised generic diagnosis, identification key and data on distribution and ecology of known species of this expanded concept of Trachyoribates are presented. Magyaria Balogh, 1963 is considered a junior synonym (syn. nov.) of Trachyoribates and the known 19 species of Magyaria are recombined.

A new species of alpheid shrimp, Thuylamea shiranui, is described and illustrated on the basis of five specimens from Yatsushiro Sea, western Kyushu, Japan. It is closely related to T. camelus Nguyên, 2001, the type species of the heretofore monotypic genus Thuylamea Nguyên, 2001, known from South China, Vietnam and Singapore. The complete lack of submedian posterodorsal crests on the carapace and the relatively long antennular peduncle distinguish the new species from T. camelus. The generic diagnosis of Thuylamea is emended to accommodate the new species.

A key is provided to separate it from the apparently closely relatedO.flavifasciatusZettel, 1990, with which it shares almost identical colouration, very different from the other five known species.

Ocesobates (Oribatida, Chamobatidae) is recorded in the Oriental region for the first time; a new species of this genus is described from soil, ferns, lichens and gramineous weeds of Taiwan. Ocesobates ziweiensis sp. nov. differs from other Ocesobates-species by the presence of translamella (versus translamella absent). A revised generic diagnosis and an identification key to known species of Ocesobates are presented. Ocesobates bregetovae Shaldybina, 1974 is proposed as a junior subjective synonym of Ocesobates boedvarssoni (Sellnick, 1974). Ocesobates galaicus Subías & Shtanchaeva, 2012 is moved to the genus Globozetes Sellnick, 1928.

A New Species

The genus Systenus Loew, 1857 is recorded from Afrotropical Region for the first time. A description of a new species, Systenus africanus Grichanov sp. nov., and notes on females of another probably new Afrotropical species are provided. The genus is considered now as cosmopolitan. A key to species and species groups of the Systenus worldwide is compiled.
