Keeping the Middle Path: Mainstreaming Religious Moderation through Islamic Higher Education Institutions in Indonesia

The Ministry of Religious Affairs of Indonesia continues to voice religious moderation to mainstream a peaceful Islamic discourse. This article aimed at looking at religious moderation values from several Islamic higher education institutions in Indonesia. The focus of article aims to find a pattern of the implementation of moderation in Islam in Islamic universities. This article discusses to what extent Islamic higher education institutions internalize religious moderation values to students. By conducting qualitative research, this article explores 3 Islamic higher education institutions in Indonesia: Universitas Islam Negeri Maulana Malik Ibrahim, Universitas Darussalam Gontor Ponorogo, and Ma’had Aly As'adiyah. The result shows that higher education institutions play a critical role in inculcating religious moderation values through pesantren institutions. The Pesantren universities have a role in transmitting moderate Islamic values through their curriculum and various religious activities. This research reveals that religious moderation is implicated in these 3 Islamic universities. The curriculum is eclectic and reflects moderation values, such as national commitment, tolerance, non-violence, and local culture accommodation. This study concludes that the three pesantrenuniversities in Indonesia have a distinctive pattern of emphasizing moderation in the three areas: theoretical, practical, and ideological aspect.

Non-linearity in Equity Market Timing: Empirical Evidence From the UK

This paper empirically tests the market timing theory to prove that issuing behavior of managers is non-linear. Consistent with the literature we show that mangers increase use of equity to finance their deficit when equities are overvalued and resort to a higher proportion of debt when equities are undervalued. Our results further suggest that mangers however exhibit a distinctive pattern when timing the market. The increase in reliance on equity to finance their deficit during periods of equity overvaluation is non-linear and only significant when the degree of overvaluation is not excessive. Furthermore, during periods of undervaluation managers resort to higher levels of leverage to finance their deficit only when undervaluation levels are excessive. This has serious implications on the ability of the equity market timing as a stand-alone theory in explaining capital structure decisions and poses some interesting implications on the debt-equity choice question when financing the deficit.

IBN KHALDUN AND KHALDOUNIA: A SYSTEMATIC STUDY

This study seeks to contribute to the formation of an outcome of ‎knowledge and methodology capable of reconstructing the Khaldunian ‎perception, especially in the tools it adopted in reading and writing history, ‎based on the mechanisms that control this history from the asabiyyah ‎analogy, or in re-aligning the historical method by rejecting attribution and ‎adopting natures Urbanism is a criterion for distinguishing between news ‎and facts according to what history provides, not what isnad means in its ‎jurisprudential style, which reads events in isolation from social, political ‎and economic contexts. ‎‎ What this methodology, Ibn Khaldun was able to present an original ‎alternative to reading history and raising it to the point of objectivity in ‎looking at facts and phenomena, but we think that the author of the ‎introduction neglected while presenting his vision in the science of ‎urbanism about a number of changes that had an effective effect on ‎influencing history and Directing its course, and the commercial and ‎mystical variable is one of the most prominent of these components that ‎Ibn Khaldun did not include in his intellectual and historical system, until ‎his vision equals the required efficiency in the distinctive pattern of him, his ‎thought, and its renewal‎‎‎. D-2-Hydroxyglutarate in Glioma Biology

Isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) mutations are common genetic abnormalities in glioma, which result in the accumulation of an “oncometabolite”, D-2-hydroxyglutarate (D-2-HG). Abnormally elevated D-2-HG levels result in a distinctive pattern in cancer biology, through competitively inhibiting α-ketoglutarate (α-KG)/Fe(II)-dependent dioxgenases (α-KGDDs). Recent studies have revealed that D-2-HG affects DNA/histone methylation, hypoxia signaling, DNA repair, and redox homeostasis, which impacts the oncogenesis of IDH-mutated cancers. In this review, we will discuss the current understanding of D-2-HG in cancer biology, as well as the emerging opportunities in therapeutics in IDH-mutated glioma.

METHODS OF CRIMINAL`S STUDYING IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA AND RUSSIA

Уровень преступности в нашей стране и в мире остается по-прежнему высоким. Изменения личности преступников обусловливают возникновение новых способов совершения преступлений. В результате этого необходимость изучения причин, условий и мотивов совершения общественно опасных деяний и особенностей лиц, их совершивших, посредством зарекомендовавших себя и получающих широкое распространение методик научного познания является актуальным для криминологии и иных наук криминального цикла. Авторы освещают понятие «криминальное профилирование», истоки его развития, особенности и условия применения данного метода в российской и американской криминологической практике. Кроме того, предпринята попытка обоснования его значения в отечественном правовом поле и определения перспектив дальнейшего развития. Цель и задачи работы - освещение позитивной зарубежной практики применения криминального профайлинга, возможность заимствования положительного опыта в России. Основными результатами настоящей статьи выступили апробированные рядом зарубежных стран способы изобличения преступников по характерному почерку совершения преступлений, причинам и условиям, им способствующим, криминальной мотивации. На основе анализа зарубежных источников и литературы авторы обосновывают вывод о положительных аспектах вошедшей в практику методики криминального профайлинга за рубежом и расширении ее сферы в нашей стране. Материалы статьи будут интересны ученым и практикам, занимающимся борьбой с преступностью вообще и в условиях изоляции от общества за рубежом отдельных категорий осужденных в частности. The crime rate remains high in our country and in the world. New ways of committing crimes are constantly emerging, and nature of criminal personality is also changing.The need to study the causes, conditions and motives for the committing of socially-dangerous acts and the characteristics of persons who committed them through proven and widely used methods of scientific knowledge does not lose relevance for criminology and other sciences of the criminal cycle. The authors highlight the concept of «criminal profiling», the origins of its development, and the peculiarities of the use of this method in Russian and American criminological practice.Moreover, an attempt was made to substantiate its significance in the domestic legal field and determine the prospects for further development. The goals and objectives of the research are to highlight the positive foreign practice of using criminal profiling, the possibility of borrowing positive experience in Russia. The main results of this article were the ways to expose criminals by the distinctive pattern in crime, the reasons and conditions that contribute to them and the reasons for illegal activities tested by a number of foreign countries. Based on the analysis of foreign sources and literature, the authors justify the conclusion about the positive aspects of the practice of criminal profiling abroad and the expansion of its sphere in our country. The materials of the article will be interesting to scientists and practitioners involved in the fight against crime in general and in isolation from society abroad of certain categories of convicts in particular.

How COVID-19 affected mental well-being: An 11- week trajectories of daily well-being of Koreans amidst COVID-19 by age, gender and region

The present study examined the daily well-being of Koreans (n = 353,340) for 11 weeks during the COVID-19 pandemic (January 20 –April 7). We analyzed whether and how life satisfaction, positive affect, negative affect, and life meaning changed during the outbreak. First, we found that the well-being of Koreans changed daily in a cubic fashion, such that it declined and recovered during the early phase but declined substantially during the later phase (after COVID- 19 was declared world pandemic by WHO). Second, unlike other emotions, boredom displayed a distinctive pattern of linear increase, especially for younger people, suggesting that boredom might be, in part, responsible for their inability to comply with social distancing recommendations. Third, the well-being of older people and males changed less compared to younger people and females. Finally, daily well-being dropped significantly more in the hard-hit regions than in other regions. Implications and limitations are discussed.

Pendayagunaan Citraan Dalam Teks Syair Surat Kapal Masyarakat Melayu Indragiri Versi Anang Kasim

ABSTRACT The pattern of image application used by poets in a literary work, especially the text of the ship's verse, can affect the quality of the text of the ship's verse. The messages to be conveyed through literary works must be creative so that they appear attractive to read and listen to, so special characteristics and patterns are needed, especially in the field of image itself, to make his work beautiful and attractive. There are many ways to enjoy, understand and appreciate the work of the author, one of which is to study the Utilization of Imagery in Anang Kasim's Version of the Syair Surat Kapal of the Indragiri Malay Community. Therefore, the aim of this study is to analyze and interpret the Utilization of Images in Anang Kasim's Version of the Syair Surat Kapal of the Indragiri Malay Community. This needs to be examined because the existence of a literary work can be seen from how the author packages his work so that he can create its own patterns and styles from the author's side. This research is descriptive with content analysis method. The data of this research are sourced from the book Syair Surat Kapal Masyarakat Melayu Indragiri Karya Dedi Iswanto 2007. The data studied were documented by reading, taking notes, then summarized and grouped based on the pattern of applying images in Anang Kasim's version of Anang Kasim's version of Syair Surat Kapal Surat Melayu Indragiri Community. Based on the author's observations, the text of Anang Kasim's version of the Syair Surat Kapal Melayu Indragiri version has a unique and distinctive pattern of application of imagery utilization seen from the stylistic aspect, namely quality imagery so that readers are able to enjoy and interpret the express and implied meanings of the verse. Nevus Comedonicus, a Rare Case : Dermoscopic and Histopathological Findings

Nevus comedonicus is an extremely rare adnexal hamartoma of pilosebaceous apparatus, with approximately 200 cases reported in the literature so far. It appears as cluster of adjacent honeycomb-like dillated follicular openings with firm pigmented keratin plugs resembling comedones.The comedones oftentimes arranged in linear pattern paralled to Blaschko’s lines. We report a case of a 5-year-old boy with open brown to black comedones in a linear pattern localized on the back of the left thigh that appearing since birth. Pain, itch and discharge were not obtain. There were some episodes of infection, due to manual removal done by his mother which left some hypertrophic scars. Dermoscopic examination revealed the distinctive pattern consisting of pigmented, sharply demarcated keratin plugs of 1-3 mm in diameter, some open pores, multiple structurless, various shades of brown homogenous circular areas surrounding the plugs. Histopathological examination showed an aggregation of dilated follicular infundibulum with laminated keratinous material plugging. This case report prove that dermoscopy examination, a simple non-invasive diagnostic tool is very helpful in diagnosing nevus comedonicus. We recommend this tool to differentiate the diagnosis of other rare epidermal nevi while histopathological examination should be performed only in uncertain cases.
