Specimens of Anacroneuria Klapálek 1909 (Plecoptera: Perlidae) and Tupiperla Froehlich 1969 (Plecoptera: Gripopterygidae) from the headwater springs of the National Integration River (São Francisco River), Serra da Canastra National Park, in Minas Gerais State, of southeastern Brazil, were studied. A new species, Anacroneuria saofrancisco n. sp. is described and the descriptions of the nymph and the female of A. saofrancisco are also presented.

Microvelia joceliae Magalhães & Moreira, sp. nov. is described and illustrated based on material from Parque Natural Municipal das Andorinhas, Minas Gerais State, in southeastern Brazil. The new species can be distinguished from congeners occurring in the region by the pronotum of the apterous form covering almost the entire thorax dorsally, proepisternum with black denticles, male abdominal segments V–VII ventrally depressed, shape of the asymmetrical parameres, and female abdominal laterotergites reflected over the mediotergites and almost touching over segments V–VII.

Abstract A new species of harpacticoid copepod, genus Forficatocaris (F. odeteae n. sp.) is described from a high-altitude pond at the Itacolomi National Park near Ouro Preto city, Minas Gerais state, Brazil. The main characters distinguishing the new species from F. affinis Dussart, 1983 and F. lilianae Noodt, 1972 are: (i) distal portion of exopod 1 of male leg 4 with stout spinules; (ii) male leg 5 lateral spine stout and with blunt apex; (iii) endopod of leg 4 curved outwards, but “c” shaped (not forming a straight angle); (iv) female with dorsal spinule row on anal somite larger than in congeners, ventral ornaments smaller and less numerous; and (v) the shape of the modified spine located at the leg 1 endopod 1 of the male; and (vi) the spine of leg 5 in males and females.

A new species of the freshwater amphipod Hyalella Smith, 1874 is described for the plateau of the Itatiaia National Park, located between the states of Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro, southeastern Brazil. This is the first Brazilian species of Hyalella found at more than 2,200 meters of altitude. The specimens were found in a small stream, buried under rocks, in the higher area of the Park. The main morphological characteristics that differentiate the new species are the extreme reduction of the size of the uropod 3, absence of apical setae on telson, absence of comb-scales on gnatopods 1 and 2, absence of curved seta on inner ramus of uropod 1 and sternal gills tubular on pereonites 3 to 7. The new species presents similarities with some cave species of the genus, apparently being troglophile and that is the process of adaptation to the hypogean habitat. The importance of creating new protected areas for the conservation of Hyalella in Brazil is discussed.

During a field expedition in the Reserva Biológica da Mata Escura, an enclave of Atlantic Rainforest in Minas Gerais State, Southeastern Brazil, a remarkable new species of Philodendron was found. Here the new species is described, illustrated and compared to morphologically close species.

An illustrated checklist of the species of Bromeliaceae from the Serra do Cabral, Minas Gerais state, southeastern Brazil is presented, including 20 species in 11 genera from three subfamilies. Subfamilies Tillandsioideae and Bromelioideae each contain eight species, which mainly inhabit rocky fields. Tillandsia is the most diverse genus, with six species. Subfamily Pitcairnioideae contains four species, including Dyckia spinulosa, as well as Dyckia oscari, a new species described and illustrated herein.

At present, 13 species of Hyalella are recorded from Brazilian hydrographic basins. A new species of the genus was foundin the municipality of Arcos, Minas Gerais state and it is described here. Curved seta on inner ramus of male uropod 1,posterior margin of gnathopod 2 propodus shorter than palm, telson longer than wide are some of the diagnostic charatctersof this new species. The articles of maxillipod palp and propodus of gnathopod 2 are elongated as observed in H.longistila,but the new species differs from it because of the curved seta on uropod 1. Despite being large and diverse group, Hyalellais represented only by two species in the state of Minas Gerais (Southeastern Brazil), H. warminig and H. gracilicornis.The distribution of H. longistila, previously recorded in Rio de Janeiro state, was extended to Minas Gerais state. Thiswork, therefore, contributes for the knowledge of Amphipoda fauna from Brazil, describing a new species and providing a key to the species identification. From this work, the number of Hyalella species found in Brazil to 14.

AbstractGamidactylus piranhus sp. nov. (Copepoda, Vaigamidae) from the nasal fossae of “San Francisco piranha”, Pygocentrus piraya (Cuvier, 1819) and.White piranha. Serrasalmus brandtii (Lütken, 1875) is described. The new species is similar to the type species of the genus, Gamidactylus jaraquensis Thatcher et Boeger, 1984, but differs from it in the following respects: the cephalothorax is shorter, the free thoracic segments are usually longer, leg 5 is reduced to a simple seta and a spine on the second antennal segment is lacking. Gamidactylus bryconis Varella, 1995 and Gamidactylus hoplius Varella et Malta, 1996, do not closely resemble the new species because they are much larger and both present leg 5 reduced to a double seta.

A new species of Anthurium (A. mucuri E.G.Gonç. & L.F.A. de Paula) is described and illustrated. It occurs in rocky outcrops (inselbergs) in Minas Gerais state, Southeastern Brazil and it is so far know from a restricted area around the city of Teófilo Otoni. It seems to be closer to Anthurium viridispathum E.G.Gonç., but differs mainly in having smaller overall dimensions, a much narrower leaf blade and spathe and for the spathe that is glaucous in the inner surface. Anthurium mucuri is placed in the section Urospadix Engl. subsection Obscureviridia Engl.

CavichianaMejdalani et al., 2014 was a formerly monotypic Cicadellinae genus exclusively found in bromeliads from southeastern Brazil. Here a new species is described, diagnosed, and illustrated from Itatiaia National Park, municipality of Itamonte, state of Minas Gerais (Mantiqueira mountain range); specimens were collected on Vriesea spp. (Bromeliaceae). Cavichiana alpina sp. nov. (male holotype in DZRJ) can be recognized by the following combination of features: (1) forewing clavus with basal portion and area along commissural margin orange, remainder of claval area blue (except dark brown apex); (2) corium with large blue area adjacent to claval sulcus, connected to blue area of clavus; (3) distal portion of female and male pygofer not sclerotized; (4) aedeagus with distinct basidorsal lobe and with apex narrowly rounded, not bearing crown of spines; and (5) female sternite VII with deep V-shaped posterior emargination. Notes on the distribution of the genus are provided and C. bromelicolaMejdalani et al., 2014 is newly recorded from southern Brazil.
