Seven new taxa of Leptodirini (Coleoptera: Leiodidae: Cholevinae) from the Balkan Peninsula

Seven new troglobitic leiodid beetle taxa (six new species and one new subspecies) from several caves and pits in the Balkan Peninsula (Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia) are described and diagnosed. Three new species belong to the genus Adelopidius Apfelbeck, 1907, two—to the genus Pholeuonopsis Apfelbeck, 1901, one—to the genus Leonhardia Reitter, 1901, while a new subspecies belongs to the genus Apholeuonus Reitter, 1889. All important morphological characteristics of the new taxa have been mentioned and imaged, including the aspects of the male and female genitalia. The new leiodid taxa are properly distinguished from their relatives and are endemics of the Dinaric mountain chain. A key to Adelopidius taxa is added.

Based on the collection of the Zoological Research Institute and Museum Alexander Koenig, Germany, Bonn, two new species of the genera Lygephila Billberg, 1820 and Apopestes Hübner, [1823] are described from China. The new taxa belong to the subfamily Catocalinae, tribe Toxocampini: Lygephila stueningi, sp. n., Lygephila longicoecum sp. n., and Apopestes curiosa sp. n. The new subgnenus Sinocampa, subgen. n. (type species Lygephila longicoecum, sp. n.) of the genus Lygephila is described. The adults and male and female genitalia are illustrated, and distribution maps of the new species are presented.

The present paper provides an overview of the Cyana rejecta (Walker, 1854) species-group. Three new species (C. yao sp. n., C. occidentalis sp. n. and C. cornutissima sp. n.) and a new subspecies (C. rejecta viettei ssp. n.) are described. Adults, male and female genitalia of all taxa of the species-group are illustrated.

A new leptodirine leiodid beetle species, Parapropus vitorogensis sp. n., from a cave in the western part of the Republic of Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina, is described and diagnosed. Both male and female genitalia and other taxonomically important characters are illustrated. The new species is clearly distinct from its closest congeners. The new taxon is of Tertiary or even pre-Tertiary age and originated during the Alpine Orogeny that affected vast areas of the Balkan Peninsula, including the Dinarides, its terra typica. The new species is both endemic and relict, inhabiting western Bosnia and Herzegovina only.

The Ghoria albocinerea Moore, 1878 species-group is established for a complex of species having the characteristic silver whitish forewing coloration and pattern presented mostly by a broad longitudinal shade along the anal wing margin. Four new species and one new subspecies of the species-group are described: Ghoria nanlingica dytiko ssp. n. (China: Sichuan), Ghoria dammay sp. n. (North Vietnam), Ghoria longivesica sp. n. (China: Yunnan and North Thailand), Ghoria mubupa sp. n. (China: Yunnan) and Ghoria synnefo sp. n. (North Vietnam). Adults, male and female genitalia of the new taxa and the related Ghoria albocinerea (the central and eastern Himalayas), Ghoria nanlingica Dubatolov, Kishida & Wang, 2012 (China: Guangdong) and Ghoria sinotibetica Dubatolov, Kishida & Wang, 2012 (China: Sichuan) are illustrated.

A new leptodirine beetle species, Pholeuonopsis (Pholeuonopsis) perucensis sp. n., from a cave in Eastern Bosnia and Herzegovina is both described and diagnosed. The structure of both male and female genitalia and other taxonomically important characters are imaged. The new beetle species is clearly distinct from all other congeners. It probably belongs to an old phyletic lineage of Tertiary origin, like other known Pholeuonopsis taxa from the Western Balkan Peninsula. The new species is both an endemic and a relict inhabiting solely Eastern Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Barsine zebrina species-complex is revised. Three new species, Barsine subzebrina Volynkin & Černý, sp. nov. (Nepal, NE India, N Myanmar), Barsine bucseki Volynkin & Černý, sp. nov. (Malay Peninsula) and Barsine navneetsinghi Volynkin & Černý, sp. nov. (NE India and N Myanmar) are described. A new combination is established: Barsine zebrina (Moore, 1878), comb. nov. Adult, male and female genitalia are illustrated.

Two new species similar to Cyana dohertyi (Elwes, 1890), C. lada Volynkin, Černý & Saldaitis, sp. nov. (Vietnam and China) and C. titovi Volynkin, Černý & Ivanova, sp. nov. (Vietnam) are described. A new subspecies C. dohertyi mertsana Volynkin & Černý, ssp. nov. is described from North Thailand and North Vietnam. Adults, male and female genitalia of the new and related species are illustrated.

The Chinese fauna of Argyresthia Hübner, [1825] included by 14 described species prior to this study. In the present paper we describe 43 new species and record seven species new to China. We also recognized six known Chinese species based on the available specimens; eight species previously reported for the fauna, but without available specimens for examination, are systematically placed in their relevant positions. The total species number of Argyresthia in China is brought to 64. The new species include: A. (Blastotere) aureola, sp. nov., A. (B.) sporadolepis, sp. nov., A. (B.) cineretra, sp. nov., A. (A.) trochaula Meyrick, 1938, and the male and female genitalia of A. (A.) aphoristis Meyrick, 1938 and A. (A.) dislocata are described for the first time. The misidentified species A. (A.) assimilis Moriuti, 1977 in China is described as A. (A.) mala, sp. nov. Argyresthia cryptomeriae Yang, nomen non rite publicatum, is validated as Argyresthia anthocephala Meyrick, 1936. Keys to the subgenera and to the Chinese species with available specimens are provided.        Photos of adults and male and female genitalia are provided for all the examined species except two from Taiwan. Field photographs and biological information are provided where available. Five DNA barcode sequences of the two new species, A. (A.) surrecta, sp. nov. and A. (A.) lanosa, sp. nov., are provided for association of the sexes.
