Review of the Oriental genus Indocloeon Müller-Liebenau 1982 (Ephemeroptera: Baetidae) with descriptions of two new species

The genus Indocloeon Müller-Liebenau 1982 (s. l.) is divided into two subgenera, the subgenus Indocloeon (s. str.) and the subgenus Hindocloeon subgen. n. which differ one from another by certain characters of larvae, winged stages and eggs. The subgenus Indocloeon is distributed in Sri Lanka only and includes two species, Indocloeon (Indocloeon) primum Müller-Liebenau 1982, and Indocloeon (Indocloeon) secundum sp. n., which are described here based on larvae, subimagines, imagines of both sexes and eggs associated by rearing. The subgenus Hindocloeon (type species Indocloeon indonesiae Kluge 2012) is widely distributed in the Oriental region. A new species Indocloeon (Hindocloeon) continentale sp. n. is described from Thailand based on larvae, subimagines, imagines of both sexes and eggs associated by rearing; subimagines presumably placed in this species, are reported from southern India. Some characters of Indocloeon (Hindocloeon) indonesiae Kluge 2012 are illustrated for the first time. The species originally described as Cloeon longistylus Demoulin 1969 is placed in Indocloeon as Indocloeon (Hindocloeon) longistylus comb. n. Subimagines of two unnamed species of Hindocloeon are reported from Vietnam and Java. Keys to known larvae and imagines are given.

The present study is based on ptyctimous oribatid mite material collected from the Oriental region (Sri Lanka, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Macau Peninsula, Taiwan). A list of identified taxa, including 33 species from 15 genera and six families, is presented. Two new species, Euphthiracarus (Pocsia) insperatus Niedbała sp. nov. (Euphthiracaridae) from Indonesia and Hoplophthiracarus paraconcinuus Niedbała sp. nov. (Steganacaridae) from Malaysia are described. Morphological additions to Mesoplophora (Parplophora) brevicarinata, Acrotritia ardua, A. paraardua, A. sterigma, Plonaphacarus kugohi, and P. protrusus are presented. Deuto- and tritonymph of Apoplophora phalerata are described. Mesoplophora (Parplophora) flavida and Indotritia (Indotritia) krakatauensis are recorded for the first time in Sri Lanka, Austrotritia robusta, Sabahtritia sarawak and Phthiracarus pygmaeus in Indonesia, Microtritia minima, Atropacarus (Atropacarus) striculus, Plonaphacarus foveolatus, and P. protrusus in Taiwan. Acrotritia mahunkai and A. paraardua are recorded for the first time in the Oriental region.

The small genus Spininola was recently erected by László, Ronkay & Witt (2010) with the type species Nola loxoscia Hampson, 1900. They tabulated six species in the genus, S. loxoscia (Hampson, 1900), S. vesiculalis (Eecke, 1926), S. trilinea (Marumo, 1923), S. denticulata (Moore, 1888), S. fuscibasalis (Hampson, 1896) and S. armata László, Ronkay & Witt, 2010 from Thailand. The genus is distributed in eastern Asia, from Nepal and Sri Lanka in the west, to Japan in the north and Sumatra in the south. In our surveys, two new species were found and are described herein, and S. loxoscia (Hampson, 1900) is recorded for the first time from China (Fig. 1).

Two Palaearctic genera, Paragona Staudinger, 1892 and Paragabara Hampson, 1926, in the subfamilies Aventiinae and Hypeninae respectively are revised. The genus Paragona is recognized as a member of the subfamily Aventiinae. Paragona nemorata sp. n. is described as new and Paragona inchoata (Wileman, 1911) is reported for China for the first time. The genus Paragabara is recognized as a member of the subfamily Hypeninae. A lectotype is designated for P. flavomacula (Oberthür, 1880) and a new species Paragabara curvicornuta sp. n. described. Paragabara ochreipennis Sugi, 1962 and Remmigabara secunda, comb. n. are reported for the first time from China; Paragabara secunda Remm, 1973 is removed from the genus Paragabara. In addition, a new genus Remmigabara gen. n., with type species Paragabara secunda, is described in the subfamily Aventiinae. Adults and genitalia of the new taxa are illustrated and compared to related taxa.

Klimakodesmus Carl, 1932 is briefly redescribed, rediagnosed, and shown to be an oligotypic genus endemic to southern India and distinct from the particularly similar genus Pyrgodesmus Pocock, 1892, monobasic and endemic to Sri Lanka, by several important features of peripheral and, especially, gonopodal structure. A new species, Klimakodesmus bilobocaudatus sp. nov., is described from Kerala state, India, differing from the sole accepted, and type species K. gravelyi Carl, 1932, from Tamil Nadu state, primarily by the laterally trilobate paraterga, the caudally more deeply bilobate mid-dorsal keel on ring 19, and certain minor details of the gonopodal structure.

An overview of the Oriental species of the nominate subgenus of Camptopteroides Viggiani (Hymenoptera: Mymaridae) is given. Two new species, C. (Camptopteroides) formosa Manickavasagam & Sankararaman sp. n. from India and C. (Camptopteroides) reducta Triapitsyn sp. n. from Thailand and Malaysia, are described, and C. formosa additionally compared to two unnamed species. The holotype male of the type species of this genus, C. armata Viggiani from Sri Lanka, is diagnosed and illustrated. A key to Old World species of Camptopteroides is provided.

A new genus of jumping spiders, Bavirectagen. nov. is proposed to include the type species B. flavopuncta gen. et sp. nov. and Bavirecta exilis (Cao et al., 2016) gen. et comb. nov. Distinguishing characters of Bavirecta gen. nov. include: 1) tubular abdomen, 2) enlarged front legs, 3) straight and pointed embolus, broadest proximal lobe with black blotches, 4) prolateral tegular lobe, 5) widely separated anterior atria. Furthermore, two new species, Schenkelia aurantia sp. nov. (♂♀) and Brancus calebi (♂) sp. nov., are described and diagnosed. Mogrus frontosus (Simon, 1871) is redescribed based on a male collected from Mandaitivu Island of Jaffna District in Sri Lanka. The genera Brancus Simon, 1902, Mogrus Simon, 1882 and Schenkelia Lessert, 1927 are reported for the first time from Sri Lanka (Brancus and Schenkelia are recorded for the first time outside Africa).

Paratus Simon, 1898 is a small and ill-defined liocranid genus distributed in the Oriental region (World Spider Catalog 2017) at altitudes of 27 (present data) to 2020 metres (Guchengshan [Zhao & Peng 2013]). Simon (1898) proposed this genus for a single female from Sri Lanka (Kandy) described as Paratus reticulatus Simon, 1898. Since the original description of the genus (Simon 1898) failed to provide diagnostic illustrations, the genus, after its erection, received no significant taxonomic treatment and remained dormant for a period of 103 years, until Deeleman-Reinhold (2001) re-examined and provided a detailed, illustrated redescription of the type of P. reticulatus, placing Paratus among ‘Liocraninae s.l. incertae sedis’. Marusik et al. (2008) revised, rediagnosed the genus, and assigned it into a newly proposed subfamily, Paratinae Marusik, Zheng & Li, 2008. The genus currently comprises five nominal species, two of which are known from both sexes, two only from males, and one only from the female (World Spider Catalog 2017). In this paper we describe a new species of Paratus from southern India, known from both sexes. Additionally the distribution of all known Paratus spp. is mapped.

During the study of heterostigmatic mites phoretic on beetles of the subfamily Orphninae (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae), ten species from five families were found. One species, Premicrodispus hajiqanbari sp. nov. (Acari: Microdispidae) phoretic on Orphnus luminosus Benderitter, found in Central African Republic is described as new for science. A new monobasic genus Scarabadania gen. nov. with type species Bakerdania tenuispina Sevastianov, 1974 is created in the family Neopygmephoridae. Troxodania problematica (Mahunka, 1975) comb. nov. (from Bakerdania) and Pseudopygmephorus peritrematus (Mahunka, 1979) (Acari: Neopygmephoridae) are redescribed. Moreover, Trochometridium tribulatum Cross, 1965 (Acari: Trochometridiidae), Troxodania problematica (Mahunka, 1975) comb. nov. and Aegyptophorus shibinensis Sevastianov and Abo-Korah, 1984 (Acari: Neopygmephoridae) are recorded from Sri Lanka for the first time. Finally, Scarabadania tenuispina (Sevastianov, 1974) comb. nov. and Pygmodispus odontotarsus Sevastianov, 1975 (Acari: Scutacaridae) are recorded from Africa for the first time.

The extremely rare, monobasic Afrotropical braconine genus, Carinibracon van Achterberg, is recorded for the first time from the Oriental region through the description of a new species, C. orientalis Ranjith sp. nov. from south India. An illustrated key to the two known species is provided along with re-illustration of the type species of the genus, C. danielssoni van Achterberg.
