AbstractAngilovelia n.gen. is described with Velia y-alba Paiva, 1918, from Burma as type-species and only included species. It has stridulatory devices similar to those found in species of the Neotropical genus Stridulivelia Hungerford. Three new species of Angilia Stål subgenus Adriennella Poisson are described, A. orientalis n.sp. (Thailand, Hong Kong), A. bispinosa n.sp. (Thailand), and A. trispinosa n.sp. (Malayan Peninsula?). The Palaearctic genus Velia Latreille reaches the border zone between this region and the Oriental region. V. (Plesiovelia) affinis Kolenati ssp. marussii Tamanini, described from Hindukush (Afghanistan, Pakistan), is here recorded from Kashmir (India) and the first species of the genus is described from China, V. (Haldwania) sinensis n.sp. A key is given to the genera and subgenera of Veliinae of the world.

Three new species of Zaischnopsis Ashmead from southern China, Z. candetibia Peng sp. nov., Z. fumosa Peng & Xiang sp. nov. and Z. nivalinota Peng & Xiang sp. nov., are described and illustrated based on females. The only other species of Zaischnopsis recorded from China, Z. tubatius (Walker) is redescribed and illustrated in detail, and the species are differentiated in a key that includes all Zaischnopsis species recorded from the Oriental region.

A new species group, the convergens group, is established within the subgenus Oxyphortica of the genus Stegana, based on two known and three new species, all of which are endemic to the Oriental Region: S. (O.) convergens (de Meijere, 1911), S. (O.) setifrons Sidorenko, 1997, S. (O.) mediospinosa sp. nov., S (O.) apicopubescens sp. nov. and S. (O.) apicosetosa sp. nov. A key to all species of the convergens group is provided.

AbstractThe Oriental genus Baptista Distant is redescribed and compared with other genera of Old World Microveliinae. The type-species, B. gesiroi Distant, hitherto only known from the type specimens (from Burma), is redescribed and recorded from Thailand. Three new speeies are described: B. femoralis sp. n. (Thailand, West Malaysia), B. digitata sp. n. (Thailand), and B. angulata sp. n. (southern India). These species all live in very cryptic and secluded habitats, like wet litter, small watery holes in rocks, or small cavities under turf along streams. The males of the new species exhibit a remarkable polymorphism in the structure of fore Iegs and pregenital abdomen. A closely related genus, Lathriovelia gen. n., is described with two species, L. capitata sp. n. and L. collaris sp. n., both from West Malaysia. This genus has a head structure which is quite unique within the subfamily.

The Agrilus purpurifrons species-group comprising twelve species from the Oriental region is defined and revised. A key to species is provided and complemented with illustrations of habitus and genitalia. Three new species are described: Agrilus cameronius sp. nov. (Malaysia); A. puncak sp. nov. (Indonesia); and A. vendibilis sp. nov. (Indonesia). The following taxonomic changes are proposed: the specific names lacroixi Obenberger, 1936 syn. nov. and chapaensis Descarpentries & Villiers, 1967 syn. nov. are junior synonyms in the synonymy of A. morio Kerremans, 1895; the name rousselatae Baudon, 1968 stat. rev. is removed from the synonymy of A. lacroixi Obenberger, 1936 and revalidated as the specific name of A. rousselatae Baudon, 1968.

Eight species of Glenea Newman, 1842 from the Oriental Region are studied, including description of three new species: G. paradiana Lin et Montreuil sp. nov. from Vietnam & Laos, G. nigrorubricollis Lin et Yang sp. nov. from Guangdong, China and G. subrubricollis Lin et Tavakilian sp. nov. from Vietnam. Glenea theresae Pic, 1943 is regarded as a junior synonym of G. diana Thomson, 1865, and G. (Mesoglenea) invitticollis Breuning, 1956 as a junior synonym of G. flavorubra Gressitt, 1940. Glenea rufipes Gressitt, 1939 is reinstated from synonym of G. subsimilis Gahan, 1897. Habitus and terminalia are presented as photographs.

AbstractOxycerina gen.n. (Stratiomyidae: Stratiomyinae), including three new species, O. hauseri sp.n., O. merzi sp.n. and O. sabaha sp.n., is described from the Oriental Region and compared with related genera of Stratiomyinae and Raphiocerinae. The monotypic genus Scapanocnema Enderlein, 1914 is considered to be a synonym of Odontomyia Meigen, 1803; S. spathulipes Enderlein, 1914 and O. latitibia Rozkošný & Kovac, 1994 are considered to be new synonyms of O. luteiceps de Meijere, 1911. Cyrtopus Bigot, 1883, is also proposed as a synonym of Odontomyia, resulting in new or resurrected combinations for the species O. fastuosa (Bigot, 1883), O. magnifica Lachaise & Lindner, 1973, and O. smaragdifera (Lindner, 1938). Timorimyia Frey, 1934 is proposed as a new synonym of Acanthasargus White, 1914, resulting in A. bidentatus (Frey, 1934), comb.n. A key to the genera of the Oriental Stratiomyinae and Raphiocerinae is presented.

Kribiodorum Kieffer, an otherwise North American and African genus of Chironomini (Diptera: Chironomidae), extends to the Oriental region through two new species. An adult male and female of Kribiodorum malicky sp. n. is newly described from Thailand, and from Brunei (Borneo) a pharate male and the pupa of Kribiodorum belalong sp. n. is described. Additionally, from Namibia (s.w. Africa) a 'manuscript' taxon is described formally with co-authorship of the late Arthur Harrison as Kribiodorum kunene sp. n. Males of the new species and the sole new pupa conform substantially to generic diagnoses based on the North American Kribiodorum perpulchrum (Mitchell). Examination of specimens of African Kribiodorum pulchrum Kieffer and N. American K. perpulchrum confirms their morphological similarity and reaffirms the junior synonymy of Stelechomyia Reiss designated for the North American species. Kribiodorum expands the number of genera of Chironomidae with African and Asian representatives, although unusual in its absence from Australia yet presence in the Nearctic.
