The theme of this chapter is the emergence by the late 1960s of an environment that gradually became more hostile to the social democratic family and to liberal progressive child rearing. The key themes of the chapter focus on the concerted political attempts to undermine 'Bowlbyism' (including the influence of Winnicott), particularly by feminists and Bowlby's enemies in the psychological/psychoanalytic community. In order to contextualize the 'dethroning' of Bowlbyism, the chapter considers the emergence of new social problems in relation to the changing perception of children (through the re-discovery of poverty and the spectre of juvenile delinquency), the failure of the Children's Rights movement, the ending of progressive primary education, and the hostility of the New Left to many of the values of old style social democracy.

Data on child pedestrian and cycle accidents and on juvenile delinquency were expressed as population-adjusted rates and covaried with social and demographic data for 120 districts in Calgary, Western Canada. Earlier results were confirmed, in that high rate areas on the indicators employed tended to coincide, identifying particular urban areas with high rates of many types of social problems.

Social work and crime prevention are synergistically linked: crime prevention and treatment of offenders are an integral part of social policy, and solving social problems is a strong factor in crime prevention, which is why social work presents an important segment of the formal social response to crime. Social protection institutions have a particularly important role in combating juvenile delinquency. The paper analyzes the place and role of social work and social protection services in the formal reaction of society to juvenile criminality in the context of contemporary criminological knowledge about the etiology of juvenile delinquency. The situation, problems and perspectives of social work in the function of prevention of juvenile criminality in Serbia are especially analyzed.

Juvenile delinquency and child labour are related social problems that today plague Nigeria. They both affect young boys and girls, some of whom are children (juveniles). Among these juveniles are children who have been involved in criminal behavior like gangism, banditry, thuggery, drug sales and abuse behaviors which are sometimes developed from participation in child labour activities which have become severe in Nigeria. Majority of these activities take the form of street hawking in the Southern part of the country, and street begging in its northern part by children addressed as Almajirai. These problems if allowed to remain will compromise and jeopardize not only the future of the child, but also that of the nation, Nigeria. Thus this study investigates juvenile delinquency as predated by child labour with a view to explaining causality and effects. Particularly, as it relates to human and capital development, and to make suggestions towards finding solutions.

Summary: Hare's Psychopathy Checklist - Revised (PCL-R; Hare, 1991 ) was originally constructed for use among males in correctional and forensic settings. In this study, the PCL-R protocols of 36 matched pairs of female and male violent offenders were examined with respect to gender differences. The results indicated a few significant differences. By means of discriminant analysis, male Ss were distinguished from their female counterparts through their relatively higher scores on “callous/lack of empathy” (item 8) and “juvenile delinquency” (item 18), whereas the female Ss scored relatively higher on “promiscuous sexual behavior” (item 11). Some sources of bias and possible implications are discussed.
