Abstract Background The effectiveness of anterior crossbite treatment in preschool-aged children depends on the treatment design and patient compliance. Common early treatment appliances with steel wires and acrylic resin can bring about numerous problems, such as toothache, sore gums and mucous membrane injury. The aim of this study was to propose a new clear removable appliance to provide preschool-age children with an improved experience of early occlusal interference treatment. Methods Appliances were designed with the help of 3-dimensional (3D) digital reconstruction oral models and fabricated using 3D printing technology and the pressed film method. Then, the mechanical properties of the original dental coping sheet and thermoformed aligners were assessed in a simulated intraoral environment. Preschool-age participants who displayed anterior crossbite were recruited in this study. Records (photographs and impressions) were taken before the treatment (T1), during the treatment (T2) and at the end of the treatment (T3). The effects of treatment were evaluated by clinical examination and questionnaires. Results Normal degrees of overbite and overjet in the primary dentition were achieved using this new appliance. Dental and soft tissue relationships were improved. Questionnaires showed that the safety evaluation, degree of comfort and convenience grades of the appliance were all relatively high. Conclusion This explorative study demonstrates that our new clear removable appliance is able to correct early-stage anterior crossbite in a safe, comfortable, convenient and efficient way. Thus, it is a promising method to correct a certain type of malocclusion, and its clinical use should be promoted in the future.

Hypodontia is characterized by partial or total congenital missing of one or more teeth, on one or both dentitions. Heredity is the main etiological factor and the principal clinical features are reduction on number, size and form of teeth, and late eruption. Removable partial prosthesis, fixed prosthesis, overdentures and adhesive prosthesis are alternative treatments, and the indication is type dependent. The aim of this study was to describe the clinical case of an eleven-year-old child with eight missing permanent teeth of idiopathic etiology. The patient had facial and skeletal symmetry, normal development and was not related to any syndrome. Clinical characteristics: permanent teeth with good periodontal conditions (16, 12, 11, 21, 22, 26, 36, 31, 42, 46), primary teeth (53, 63, 64, 73, 83); overbite and microdontia on teeth 12 and 22. The treatment plan was done initially by documenting of the case for teeth analysis (study casting models, periapicals and panoramic x-rays, and photographs), and followed by the exodontics of teeth 73 and 83.A removable appliance in autocured acrylic resin, using teeth in acrylic for maintenance of functional space and occlusion was planned and carried out.An anterior track for vertical dimension gain was used because of his accentuated overbite. The patient will be monitored until the end of the craniofacial growth, when it will be again evaluated and forwarded for the final oral rehabilitation. Hypodontia diagnosis and management should be performed as early as possible not to interfere with the craniofacial development of the child.

Preschool age is a period of a child experiencing the early stage of self-development, influenced by both her/himself and surrounding environment. Playgroup is a very essential container in training children’s early stage of self-development to adulthood. It is strongly influenced by the design of the playgroup space. Good design of playgroup space will be able to optimize creativity and stimulates motoric nerves and children’s psychological side to keep learning, grow, and do activities. Creativity accompanied with intelligence and sense of responsibility is expected to make the child as excelent human being who is able to do original works and live in independence in the future.

The existing tunnel lining structure is easily affected by geological conditions, disturbance in the early stage of construction and operation in the later stage. This paper analyzes the main factors affecting the lining structure diseases of existing tunnels from three aspects of engineering construction, natural environment and engineering geology, starting from 13 independent factors affecting the lining structure diseases of existing tunnels. First of all, the index system of the formation factors of lining diseases in the reconstruction and expansion tunnel is established by using the analytic hierarchy process (AHP), and the hierarchical index system is put forward. Based on AHP-Extenics model, the evaluation method of lining structure disease of existing tunnel is proposed. Then, combined with engineering practice and expert scoring, the weight of safety evaluation index is determined, and the safety evaluation index and weight are expanded by using correlation function. Finally, the disease evaluation grade of the existing tunnel lining structure is obtained. This method uses the formal Extenics comprehensive evaluation model, which makes the calculation results more objective and provides a new method for the disease evaluation of the existing tunnel lining structure.
