Abstract Background Minimally invasive surgery (MIS) procedures cause less trauma to the patient and might improve recovery. This study aimed to determine the efficacy and safety of condylectomy with MIS to treat interdigital corns of the lesser toes. Methods This prospective cohort study was conducted in seven podiatry centers. Patients with interdigital corns of the lesser toes, progressing for more than a year, with one or more recurrences in the last year following conservative treatments were eligible. The recruited patients were classified according to their treatment: conservative or surgical (condylectomy with MIS) and were compared. Patient satisfaction, pain, the clinical and functional status of the foot and the appearance of sequelae were assessed at 3 and 6 months after treatment. Results At 6 months, patients in the surgical treatment group showed no pain on pressure, which significantly differed from the conservative treatment group (p <  0.001). They also improved clinical and functional status of the foot, reaching values comparable to those of the standard population. No paresthesia, joint stiffness or instability, toe malalignment, or corn transfer to a contiguous site resulted from the surgical treatment. Conclusions Condylectomy with MIS is effective and safe to treat interdigital corns of the lesser toes.

Spontaneous intracranial haematomas remain a challenging pathology with high morbidity and mortality (60–80% of long-term disability). Despite decades of the search for specific treatments no evidence has yet been found for neither conservative nor surgical treatment in randomized controlled studies. While patients with space occupying infratentorial haematomas are more likely to benefit from surgery treatment of supratentorial haemorrhages remains controversial. Recent studies suggest that minimally invasive surgery including endoscopy to evacuate intracranial haematoma may be more effective than conservative treatment or standard surgical craniotomy (MISTIE II). Future studies (i.e. MISTIE III, MISTICH, SWITCH) will hopefully demonstrate evidence for individualized treatments.

The article presents the results of surgical treatment, i.e. minimally invasive surgery using a new technique, in 72 children with a diagnosis of Torticollis who were hospitalized in National Center for Maternal and Child Welfare, Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. The optimized method of performing surgical treatment of the Torticollis allows improving the outcomes of surgery, which is confirmed by the absence of complications, a higher number of good outcomes (P< 0.05).

The aim of the research is to study the results of minimally invasive surgery for the treatment of nonspecifi c infectious spine lesions, and to present personal experience. Material and methods. Three patients with purulent nonspecifi c spondylodiscitis of lumbar spine got minimally invasive surgical treatment. The essence of surgical intervention included X-ray-assisted placement of tubular retractors in the area of intervertebral disc aff ected by purulent process; debridement and irrigation with antiseptic solution of interbody space, and setting a drain tube. All patients were treated during the period from December 2016 to February 2019. They were examined before surgery and in 3 months aft er the discharge. Laboratory parameters (CBT, C-reactive protein, bacteriological analysis of intervertebral disc contents) and instrumental research methods (computer tomography, magnetic resonance imaging) were evaluated. ODI, VAS, SF-36 questionnaires helped to assess pain syndrome and life quality of patients. Results. In 100 % of studied cases infection was caused by Staphylococcus aureus. The result of treatment in all cases was assessed as good, because pain syndrome, neurological disorders and inflammatory process were arrested; there were no signs of disease progression. In all cases, life quality of patients was restored. In one case, additional surgical intervention was required (posterior instrumental fi xation of spine) because of instability signs. Conclusion. Minimally invasive surgical treatment of purulent single-level spondylodiscites can be recommended for practical use. The use of such approache allows to verify purulent infection agent, to damage soft tissues less getting proper sanitation of interbody space. It also allows to stop the infection and restore life quality of a patient

Background and Objective. Although minimally invasive surgical treatment of acute epidural hematoma attracts increasing attention, no generalized indications for the surgery have been adopted. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of minimally invasive surgery in acute epidural hematoma with various hematoma volumes.Methods. Minimally invasive puncture and aspiration surgery were performed in 59 cases of acute epidural hematoma with various hematoma volumes (13–145 mL); postoperative follow-up was 3 months. Clinical data, including surgical trauma, surgery time, complications, and outcome of hematoma drainage, recovery, and Barthel index scores, were assessed, as well as treatment outcome.Results. Surgical trauma was minimal and surgery time was short (10–20 minutes); no anesthesia accidents or surgical complications occurred. Two patients died. Drainage was completed within 7 days in the remaining 57 cases. Barthel index scores of ADL were ≤40 (n=1), 41–60 (n=1), and >60 (n=55); scores of 100 were obtained in 48 cases, with no dysfunctions.Conclusion. Satisfactory results can be achieved with minimally invasive surgery in treating acute epidural hematoma with hematoma volumes ranging from 13 to 145 mL. For patients with hematoma volume >50 mL and even cerebral herniation, flexible application of minimally invasive surgery would help improve treatment efficacy.
