SummaryA new method was developed for making Domiati cheese, based on blending ultrafiltered reconstituted milk and lipolysed recombined cream. The chemical composition of the new product was similar to the traditional cheese. The flavour intensity increased with the amount of lipase used in the cream hydrolysis. During storage the acidity and tyrosine content of cheese from different treatments increased at nearly similar rates. The level of total volatile fatty acids was affected by the level of lipase used. Organoleptic scoring showed that cheese made with cream treated with the intermediate levels of lipase (2 or 5 g/500 g cream) ranked the highest, after 1 and 4 months of storage respectively.

Product concept generation and concept design are major activities for obtaining an optimal concept in new product development (NPD). A customer requirements driving new product concept generation method is addressed in this paper. This study proposes a new method to generate product concept, through which NPD team acquire customers’ requirement and product attributes. The new method is based on integrating of Naïve Bayes cluster and rough set theory (RST). It takes marketing strategy, business strategy into consideration, which makes new product development more effective compared with the traditional method. We believe that the proposed method will have a positive significance on the future new product development

Montageanleitungen sind unabdingbar, um ein Produkt erfolgreich zu verkaufen. Zugleich sind sie sehr zeitaufwendig in der Erstellung und oft nicht gut verständlich. „ARCaide“ ist eine neue Methode, die vorhandene CAD-Daten nutzt und daraus automatisch eine Montageanleitung erstellt. Ein weiterer Vorteil: Die ausgegebene Anleitung ist intuitiv und reduziert Montagefehler schon während des Prozesses, weil sie den Menschen mithilfe von Augmented Reality (AR) anleitet.   Assembly instructions are indispensable for successfully selling a product. However, their creation is very time-consuming and often they are hard to understand. ARCaide is a new method using existing CAD data to automatically create assembly instructions. Another advantage is that these instructions are intuitive, reducing assembly errors during the process as users are guided by means of Augmented Reality (AR).

Purpose – This paper aims to present a new Islamic product called gambling-free lottery, which is inspired by ideas of Musharakah, Takaful and Al-qard Al-hasan, where the winner of the lottery receives the prize as an interest-free loan, and buyers of tickets get their money back after the winner’s repayment of the loan. Design/methodology/approach – The paper reports the religious opinions of three Islamic scholars who were interviewed for the purpose of this study. The results of a questionnaire to survey the mood of 430 persons about the new product are also reported. Findings – The paper concludes that although the proposed product is still at an exploratory stage and not a definitive product acceptable to all Muslim society, it could be a successful Islamic financial product, provided that it was put into practice with some modifications to accommodate all Islamic views. Research limitations/implications – Main limitations of this study are the number of Islamic scholars interviewed does not reflect all the Islamic views regarding the new product and the lack of more information about the religious side of this type of product. Originality/value – By introducing such a product, the gambling-free lottery could become not only a means of credit provision but also a new method of playing a “game” while lending money to someone who is more likely to be poor. Converting the poor into the rich could overcome many problems, particularly in poor countries.

Most of new products evolve based upon existing products. The reliability indices and maintenance records of existing products are very important to provide useful information for the reliability allocation of the new evolutionary products. In this paper, a fuzzy similarity-based reliability allocation method which considers not only the similarity between the new product and old ones, but also the judgments from domain experts, is proposed to realize a reasonable reliability allocation at the initial design stage of diesel engines. The new method allows for using both the objective information from the old products and the subjective judgments from experts simultaneously, and it is more comprehensive and objective compared to the traditional reliability allocation method.

This article explores the relationship between 18 variables and a supermarket buyer's decision to accept or reject a new product. One hundred twenty-four new products are analyzed by multiple discriminant analysis and a hierarchical threshold model termed a “gatekeeper” analysis. A new method of discriminant validation in small samples is also proposed.

To cope with the challenges of product quality design system applied in new product development (NPD), a new method of quality control for NPD-collaborative quality design mode, which integrates voice of customer, quality function deployment (QFD) and failure modes and effect analysis (FMEA) , and corresponding functional modules and framework were all put forward. This mode dealt mainly with constructing and running collaborative quality design system, integrated several enabling technologies such as the integration of QFD and FMEA, task distribution of quality design, integrated technology of computer-supported-collaborative work (CSCW). On the basis of these, applying Java, JSP and JavaServlet to the system, improve working efficiency and shorten the development cycle so as to respond to the fluctuation of market demands as quick as possible. The quality design of some automobile was introduced as an example to verify that the system developed would efficiently meet the requirements of NPD.
