Yolk–shell structured pH-responsive Fe3O4@PMAA microspheres have been prepared for adsorption of metal ions and drug delivery by combined sol–gel reaction, emulsion polymerization and selective etching methods accompanying hydrolysis of PMMA shells of core–shell–shell Fe3O4@SiO2@PMMA composite microspheres.
