Thirty tank crews were tested in the Ft. Knox COFT tank simulator. The COFT simulator is a gunnery training facility. The crew's task was to shoot specified enemy targets. Each crew consisted of a tank commander and a gunner. The commander told the gunner, via an intercom system, which enemy object was the next target. Performance and subjective workload were measured as a function of the speech intelligibility transmitted by the intercom system. Five levels of intelligibility were tested. The measures of operational effectiveness were the number of targets correctly fired upon and the gunner's latency. Subjective workload was measured using the Subjective Workload Assessment Technique (SWAT). Gunner performance and subjective workload covaried across intelligibility levels. Performance was not significantly affected until intelligibility levels fell to 50%. However, SWAT ratings increased linearly with decreasing intelligibility level.

Traditional theatre dispatch platform, which is designed by circuit switching technology, has its limitation and disadvantages. So this paper proposed an effective intercom system for stage dispatch console based on IP network. We analysed its functional requirements, hardware and software framework, and the key technologies during IP communication. Various network technologies can be synthetically used, so as to realize IP integration for the whole system. Our study is of great significance in providing stage manager with fast and centralized information, which can help improving the stage performance.

This study utilized a wireless transceiver module (NRF24L01) and ATmega328 to implement a cost-effective household door intercom. The intercom consist of two units; the outdoor and indoor. The outdoor unit was used by the guest to communicate with the household owner to notify them of their presence at the door while the indoor unit was used to respond to the call. The transceiver module transmits and receives audio signals between the two units, while ATmega328 handles the conversion of the signal from analog to digital during transmission and vice-versa at reception. The outcome of the test and analysis carried out on the developed prototype shows that it is user-friendly, consumes less power, and also proves that it is a cost-effective solution that can be affordable and made to be readily available to the consumer.

In the TCP/IP building intercom system, broadcast addressing or query-list addressing are often used to obtain the IP address of the called party. However, these methods are limited by the function of the network equipment, intolerable resource costs, and high failure rate of querying. To solve such problems, this paper presents a networking and addressing method in the TCP/IP building intercom system which is based on Distributed Hash Table (DHT). Results from theoretical analysis and simulations show the feasibility and superiority of such a method.

Modular design is a standardized approach to organically combine standardization and diversification and to effectively integrate multi-type and small volume-production with efficiency, which is a new technology that has been applied universally. Its basic methods contain the four aspects of identifying the destination domain of modular product, etc. In China, there are about hundreds of intelligent building intercom system manufacturers and products. However, how to make the product internal structure design standardized and modularized and realize the compatibility of different manufacturers’ products is a problem necessary to be resolved in this industry. This paper conducts modular design concerning about intelligent building intercom system products, and combines the green design thought with modular design method, which can simultaneously fulfill the product’s functional and environmental properties, exerting highly significant roles in the R & D, increasing the production efficiency, reducing cost and improving enterprise management. From a long term, system modular design is the development trend of intelligent buildings.
