In this paper, we consider an integrated production-delivery model in which a vendor supplies the same product to multiple buyers. Unlike existing study, in this proposed model, we assume that the sum of all buyers’ demand rates is larger than the vendor’s production rate under normal work, but less than that under overtime. All buyers are independent of each other. For each buyer, the lead time demand is stochastic and the shortage during lead time is permitted. The main objective of this model is to determine the optimal production and delivery policies and the optimal overtime strategy, which minimize the joint expected annual cost of the system. Based on the genetic algorithm, we develop a solution procedure to find the optimal production, delivery, and overtime decision of this model. Computational experiments show the error rate between the objective values obtained by the proposed solution procedure and the solutions solved by the exhaustive method. The results indicate that the proposed mixed genetic algorithm is more effective and adoptable in comparison with the exhaustive method as it can be able to calculate the optimal solutions for at least 96% for the instances. Ultimately, an adequate numerical example is given to show the detailed process of the solution procedure, and sensitivity analysis of main parameters with managerial implication is discussed.

Considering discrete demand and time-vary unit production cost under a foreseeable time horizon, this study presents an adaptive genetic algorithm to determine the production policy for one manufacturer supplying single item to multiple warehouses in a supply chain environment. Based on Distribution Requirement Planning (DRP) and Just in Time (JIT) delivery policy, we assume each gene in chromosome represents a period. Standard GA operators are used to generate new populations. These populations are evaluated by a fitness function using the total cost of production scheme. An explicit procedure for obtaining the local optimal solution is provided.

To design a residential or commercial building with high energy performance that would be economical at the same time, an analysis was performed that relates these two aspects of the problem. The first aspect is focused on evaluation of the thermal performance of a multi-layered wall in order to achieve the lowest energy consumption for heating and cooling. The second aspect of the analysis covered the choice of materials (type, thickness and price) so that the building has the lowest possible construction costs, but the best achieved thermal comfort. The three types of external walls with the same structure were analyzed in this paper. The lowest and highest values of the layer thickness offered by the manufacturer were chosen and their dynamic characteristics for the heat transfer were calculated. The following step was to perform optimization of the objective function, which was defined by the unit price of the material per mass of the material, that is, the economical aspect was provided. The genetic algorithm method was used to obtain the optimal thickness of the external wall layers that provided the best dynamic characteristics for the heat transfer in the defined conditions.
