To study the vibration characteristics of the poppet valve induced by cavitation, the signal analysis method based on the ensemble empirical mode decomposition (EEMD) method was studied experimentally. The component induced by cavitation was separated from the vibration signals through the EEMD method. The results show that the IMF2 component has the largest amplitude and energy of all components. The root mean square (RMS) value, peak value of marginal spectrum, and center frequency of marginal spectrum of the IMF2 component were studied in detail. The RMS value and the peak value of the marginal spectrum decrease with a decrease of cavitation intensity. The center frequency of marginal spectrum is between 12 kHz and 20 kHz, and the center frequency first increases and then decreases with a decrease of cavitation intensity. The change rate of the center frequency also decreases with an increase of inlet pressure.

The behavior of beam-to-column connections significantly influences the stability, strength, and stiffness of steel structures. This is particularly important in extreme non-elastic responses, i.e., earthquakes, and sudden column removal, as the fluctuation in strength and stiffness affects both supply and demand. Accordingly, it is essential to accurately estimate the strength and stiffness of connections in the analysis of and design procedures for steel structures. Beginning with the state-of-the-art, the capacity of three available component-based mechanical models to estimate the complex mechanical properties of top- and seat-angle connections with double-web angles (TSACWs), with variable parameters, were investigated. Subsequently, a novel hybrid krill herd algorithm-artificial neural network (KHA-ANN) model was proposed to acquire an informational model from the available experimental dataset. Using several statistical metrics, including the corresponding coefficient of variation (CoV), correlation coefficient (R), and the correlation coefficient provided by the Taylor diagram, this study revealed that the krill herd-ANN model achieved the most reliable predictive accuracy for the strength and stiffness of top- and seat-angle connections with double web angles.

This paper optimizes the structure of the poppet valve based on the internal flow. The flow-force on poppet valve in the case of the converging flow is simulated and studied by CFD. Simulation results represent that the traditional formula for computing the flow-force can be used only in the certain range, so the formula is modified based on the simulation result.
