The exponential weighted moving average (EWMA) statistic is utilized the past information along with the present to enhance the efficiency of the estimators of the population parameters. In this study, the EWMA statistic is used to estimate the population mean with auxiliary information. The memory type ratio and product estimators are proposed under stratified sampling (StS). Mean square errors (MSE) expressions and relative efficiencies of the proposed estimators are derived. An extensive simulation study is conducted to evaluate the performance of the proposed estimators. An empirical study is presented based on real-life data that supports the findings of the simulation study.

Control charts are commonly applied for monitoring and controlling the performance of the manufacturing process. Usually, control charts are designed based on the main quality characteristics variable. However, there exist numerous other variables which are highly associated with the main variable. Therefore, generalized linear model (GLM)-based control charts were used, which are capable of maintaining the relationship between variables and of monitoring an abrupt change in the process mean. This study is an effort to develop the Phase II GLM-based memory type control charts using the deviance residuals (DR) and Pearson residuals (PR) of inverse Gaussian (IG) regression model. For evaluation, a simulation study is designed, and the performance of the proposed control charts is compared with the counterpart memory less control charts and data-based control charts (excluding the effect of covariate) in terms of the run length properties. Based on the simulation study, it is concluded that the exponential weighted moving average (EWMA) type control charts have better detection ability as compared with Shewhart and cumulative sum (CUSUM) type control charts under the small or/and moderate shift sizes. Moreover, it is shown that utilizing covariate may lead to useful conclusions. Finally, the proposed monitoring methods is implemented on the dataset related to the yarn manufacturing industry to highlight the importance of the proposed control chart.

Statistical process control is an important tool for maintaining the quality of a production process. Several control charts are available to monitor changes in process parameters. In this study, a control chart for the process mean is proposed. For this purpose, an auxiliary variable is used in the form of a regression estimator under the configuration of the hybrid exponentially weighted moving average (HEWMA) control chart. The proposed chart is evaluated by conducting a simulation study. The results showed that the proposed chart is sensitive with respect to the HEWMA chart. A real-life application is also presented to demonstrate the performance of the proposed control chart.

A double exponentially weighted moving average chart has been proven more efficient for monitoring process mean in comparison to the classical exponentially weighted moving average chart. We, in this article, made a careful investigation on how well this scheme performs with the presence of disturbances in the process under consideration. This investigation was motivated in exploring the scheme with some robust statistic, as the mean estimator performs woefully. We also evaluated the effects of parameter estimation on the phase II assuming the parameters are unknown. Adopting a 20% trimmed mean of trimeans (robust) reveals the effect of parameter estimations. We substantiated these claims by applying the scheme on a real-life data set. The findings of the study pronounced the trimean estimator to be the best of all the five estimators used, including the mean.

In this paper, we propose a Hybrid Exponentially Weighted Moving Average (HEWMA) control chart based on a mixture ratio estimator of mean using a single auxiliary variable and a single auxiliary attribute (Moeen et al., [1]). We call it as Z- HEWMA control chart. The proposed control chart performance is evaluated using outof- control-Average Run Length (ARL1). The control limits of the proposed chart is based on estimator, its mean square errors. A simulated example is used to compare the proposed Z-HEWMA, traditional/simple EWMA chart and CUSUM control chart. From this study the fact is revealed that Z-HEWMA control chart shows more efficient results as compared to traditional/simple EWMA and CUSUM control charts. The Z-HEWMA chart can be used for efficient monitoring of the production process in manufacturing industries where auxiliary information about a numerical variable and an attribute is available.

Abstract The strapdown inertial navigation system (SINS) with integrated Doppler velocity log (DVL) is widely utilised in underwater navigation. In the complex underwater environment, however, the DVL information may be corrupted, and as a result the accuracy of the Kalman filter in the SINS/DVL integrated system degrades. To solve this, an adaptive Kalman filter (AKF) with measurement noise estimator to provide noise statistical characteristics is generally applied. However, existing methods like moving windows (MW) and exponential weighted moving average (EWMA) cannot adapt to a dynamic environment, which results in unsatisfactory noise estimation performance. Moreover, the forgetting factor has to be determined empirically. Therefore, this paper proposes an improved EWMA (IEWMA) method with adaptive forgetting factor for measurement noise estimation. First, the model for a SINS/DVL integrated system is established, then the MW and EWMA based measurement noise estimators are illustrated. Subsequently, the proposed IEWMA method which is adaptive to the various environments without experience is introduced. Finally, simulation and vehicle tests are conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed method. Results show that the proposed method outperforms the MW and EWMA methods in terms of measurement noise estimation and navigation accuracy.

The combined effect of serial dependency and measurement errors is known to negatively affect the statistical efficiency of any monitoring scheme. However, for the recently proposed homogenously weighted moving average (HWMA) scheme, the research that exists concerns independent and identically distributed observations and measurement errors only. Thus, in this paper, the HWMA scheme for monitoring the process mean under the effect of within-sample serial dependence with measurement errors is proposed for both constant and linearly increasing measurement system variance. Monte Carlo simulation is used to evaluate the run-length distribution of the proposed HWMA scheme. A mixed-s&m sampling strategy is incorporated to the HWMA scheme to reduce the negative effect of serial dependence and measurement errors and its performance is compared to the existing Shewhart scheme. An example is given to illustrate how to implement the proposed HWMA scheme for use in real-life applications.

Abstract Background Early detection of outbreaks is very important for surveillance systems. Due to the importance of the subject and lack of similar studies in Iran, the aim of this study was to determine the performance of the Wavelet-Based Outbreak detection method)WOD(in detecting outbreaks and to compare its performance with Poisson regression-based model and Exponential weighted moving average (EWMA) using data of simulated pertussis outbreaks in Iran. Methods The data on suspected cases of pertussis from 25th February 2012 to 23rd March 2018 in Iran was used. The performance of the WOD (Daubechies 10 and Haar wavelets), Poisson regression-based method, and EWMA Compared in terms of timeliness and detection of outbreak days using the simulation of different outbreaks (literature-based and researcher-made outbreaks). The sensitivity, specificity, false alarm and false negative rate, positive and negative likelihood ratios, under ROC areas and median timeliness were used to assess the performance of the methods. Results In a literature-based outbreak simulation, the highest and lowest sensitivity, false negative in the detection of injected outbreaks were seen in Daubechies 10 (db10), with sensitivity 0.59 (0.56-0.62), and Haar wavelets with 0.57 (0.54-0.60). In the researcher-made outbreaks, the EWMA (K=0.5) with sensitivity 0.92 (0.90-0.94) had the best performance. About timeliness, the WOD methods showed the best performance in the early warning of the outbreak in both simulation approaches. Conclusions Performance of the WOD in the early alarming outbreaks was appropriate. However, it's better as the method was used along with other methods in public health surveillance systems.

This study proposes EWMA-type control charts by considering some auxiliary information. The ratio estimation technique for the mean with ranked set sampling design is used in designing the control structure of the proposed charts. We have developed EWMA control charts using two exponential ratio-type estimators based on ranked set sampling for the process mean to obtain specific ARLs, being suitable when small process shifts are of interest.
