This paper analyzes the performance of a cognitive underlay system over Nakagami-m fading channels, where maximal ratio combining (MRC) is employed at secondary destination and relay nodes. Under the condition of imperfect channel state information (CSI) of interfering channels, system performance metrics for the primary network and for the secondary network are formulated into exact and approximate expressions, which can be served as theoretical guidelines for system designs. To verify the performance analysis, several analytical and simulated results of the system performance are provided under various system and channel settings.

The Lagoon method of waste water treatment was introduced into Canada in the mid 1950's. At present, of the 2019 waste water treatment systems in Canada, 1163 are Lagoon systems and 265 of these include aeration equipment. Continuing difficulties associated with the plugging of the aerators have led to a study of this maintenance problem. Physical factors have been identified as the major cause of the plugging of large bubble aerators; whereas chemical solution and deposition under high algal growth conditions have been set forward as the causes of fine bubble aerator plugging. Selected field investigation data collected indicate that the proposed push-pull system of precipitation of calcium carbonate and silica dioxide may in fact be responsible for the plugging of fine bubble aerators with these materials.

Care transitions are key to patient safety and remain a safety issue despite previous research. This study examines how the design of care transitions impacts different health care professions. Twenty-nine physicians and nurses were interviewed about operating room to intensive care unit care transitions. We compared relationships between work system elements in positive and negative opinions about two sociotechnical system designs: including team or individual handoffs. Nurses did not express positive opinions of individual handoffs or negative opinions of team handoffs, while physicians expressed positive and negative opinions of both. Relationships between work system elements varied by profession in the positive opinions about team handoffs and negative opinions about individual handoffs. Professional needs and culture may be related to the different perceptions of each handoff. Future work should continue to examine professional differences when developing a flexibly standardized process to ensure all users are considered.

The presented article deals with the issue of solving bottlenecks in the logistics flow of a manufacturing company. The Tx Plant Simulation software tool is used to detect bottlenecks and deficiencies in the company’s production, logistics and transportation systems. Together with the use of simulation methods and lean manufacturing tools, losses in business processes are eliminated and consequently flow throughput is improved. In the TX Plant Simulation software environment, using Bottleneck analyzer, bottlenecks were defined on the created simulation model and a method of optimizing logistics flows was designed and tested by introducing the Kanban pull system. This resulted in an improvement and throughput of the entire logistics flow, a reduction in inter-operational stocks and an increase in the efficiency of the production system as a whole.

The course of the reactions o f fluorophosphaalkenes F3CP = C (F)OR [R = Me (1), Et (2)] with methanol or ethanol strongly depends on the experimental conditions. Thus at 70 °C a mixture of the 2-phosphapropionic acid ester F3CP (H )CO2R [R = Me (3), Et (4)] and trifluoromethylphosphane H2PCF3 is formed [molar ratio: 3 or 4 /H2 CF3 ≈1/1]. If the precursors F3CP (H )CO2R [R = Me (3), Et) are used as starting materials, the reaction with ROH under the same conditions affords 3 and 4, respectively, (90 to 95% yield) with only traces of H2PCF 3. In the presence o f iPr2NH these precursors react with R′OH to give the novel trifluoromethylphosphaalkenes F3CP = C (OR )OR [R /R′: Me/Me (6); E t/E t (7); Me/Et (8)]. With Et2NH , 3 undergoes an addition/elimination process yielding the interesting push/pull system Et2N(F)C = P-CO2Me (5). 1 and 2 react with primary amines R′NH2 (R′= tBu, Me) with stereoselective formation of the fairly labile phosphaalkenes F3CP = C(OR)NHR′ [R /R′: Me/tBu (9), Et/tBu(10), Me/Me (11)] with trans-positions for CF3 and NHR′.The new compounds 3 -11 were characterized by spectroscopic investigations (1H , 19F, 31P, 13C NMR ; IR, MS) and determination of M+ or typical fragment ions [M+ -OR ] by high resolution mass spectrometry.
