The overall development of business operations logistics activities becomes more important for firms with the globalization of economy and therefore performance measurement being equally important. In order to break monopolistic control of Container Corporation of India (CONCOR), Indian Railways entered for competition in the container segment in January 2006 through private-public participation for customer centric competitiveness. The purpose of this book chapter is to benchmark the performance indicators in CONCOR. A case study has been conducted employing basic and super-efficiency models of Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) on secondary data of CONCOR, Adani and Gateway container terminals from 1995-96 till 2010-11 for performance evaluation within CONCOR and comparative analysis for three organizations from 2005-06 till 2010-11. The exercise identified efficiency trends fluctuating between 87.5% to 1000% within CONCOR owing to haphazard infrastructure developed while comparison with private players showed 38.31% to 77.59% efficiency fluctuation concurrent to licensing policy norms.

Abstract The article presents a method for evaluating the efficiency of port container terminals. The research was conducted for nine European terminals which use different handling technologies. The terminals have been divided due to the level of automation of transport processes. In the efficiency research DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis) method is applied, that was previously used in studies of the relative productivity in the industry. This method allows you to multicriteria process analysis based on the properly selected production system model processing input parameters on output. Conclusions from analysis can be a ground for making a decision on organizational or investment issues.

This study proposes the hybrid data envelopment analysis (DEA) and support vector machine (SVM) approaches for efficiency estimation and classification in web security. In the proposed framework, the factors and efficiency scores from DEA models are integrated with SVM for learning patterns of web security performance and provide further decision support. The numerical case study of hospital web security efficiency is demonstrated to support the feasibility of this design.

ABSTRACT: The aim of this paper is to analyze the Technical Efficiency of a sample of 13 container ports of Latin America and the Caribbean, which generated movements of more than one million TEUs in the period 2012-2018, according to the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC). In the first stage, Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) has been used to obtain the Technical Efficiency, with an output-oriented option: Variable Return Scale (BCC). In a second stage, the bootstrap method has been applied in order to determine efficiency rankings of Latin America and the Caribbean container ports. The main contribution of this article is the application of DEA and Bootstrap models in the study of operational efficiency of the main container terminals in Latin America and the Caribbean. The techniques presented manage to determine, with a high degree of precision, the role played by the main container traffic variables in the operational efficiency of their terminals. They represent a valuable tool for the analysis of the dimensioning of the infrastructures of the ports studied. The models developed in this work have been evaluated through a database obtained from the public entities that manage these ports in Latin America and the Caribbean, but they can be applied in other ports of different countries and/or commercial areas that share the same typology of traffic and characteristics. The corrected efficiency results obtained by the Bootstrap BCC Output-oriented methodology denote some homogeneity in two large groups of ports. The ports with corrected efficiency values above 85%, and low differences between the values obtained in the two methodologies, should develop an analysis of their infrastructures in the short and medium-term. A second group consisting of Cartagena, Freeport, Lazaro Cardenas, San Antonio and Buenos Aires ports, obtain low efficiency values of less than 65% and therefore, should develop a traffic strategy analysis to attract new traffic in order to be efficient.
