A new genus and species of the subfamily Pselaphinae, Lisubatrus dongzhiweii gen. et sp. nov., is described from the Gaoligong Mountains, southwestern China. Lisubatrus is assigned to the tribe Batrisini, subtribe Batrisina, and placed in a group of genera related to Dendrolasiophilus Nomura, 2010. Members of this group share the characteristic cephalic setose tufts, and have the aedeagus with a large basal capsule, and a well-developed dorsal lobe. Important diagnostic features of Lisubatrus are illustrated, and an identification key to distinguish Lisubatrus from the allied genera is given.

A new genus and species of the cockroach family Caloblattinidae, Dazhublattella lini gen. et sp.n., is described from the Upper Triassic Xujiahe Formation of Sichuan Province, in southwestern China. The new taxon is similar to the Triassic Caloblattina mathildae (Geinitz, 1883) (Vršanský & Ansorge 2007) in the venation and pattern, but differs in the less elongated forewing with arched anterior margin. An elemental analysis of the wing is undertaken using Energy Dispersive X-ray analysis.

A new genus and species of the extinct family Weitschatidae, Criniverticillus longicumulus gen. et sp. nov. (Hemiptera: Coccomorpha), is described and illustrated from mid-Cretaceous Burmese amber. The new species is based on a fossil specimen with complete body, wings and antennae. The family diagnosis is updated to include similarities between Criniverticillus, Pseudoweitschatus and Weitschatus. An identification key to species of Weitschatidae is provided.

Lobopodians, which diversified and flourished in the Cambrian seas, have long drawn much attention in that not only their extant close relatives, onychophorans and tardigrades, but euarthropods (Chelicerata, Myriapoda, Crustacea, and Hexapoda) may have been deeply rooted in stem-group lobopodians. Antennacanthopodia gracilis new genus and species is described and interpreted here as an “unarmoured” lobopodian from the Chengjiang fossil Lagerstätte (Early Cambrian, —520 Ma), Yunnan, southwestern China. This animal shares with other known Cambrian lobopodians such plesiomorphies (primitive characters) as onychophoran-like overall appearance; a metamerically segmented body covered by slightly sclerotized cuticle, and paired, unjointed lobopodal legs. Antennacanthopodia is also featured by a pair of frontal antennae, potential ocellus-like lateral visual organs, second antennae, a straight, voluminous midgut, diminutive spines arrayed on the leg and the trunk, well-developed leg musculature, highly sclerotized terminal leg pads, and presumptively a pair of posteriormost appendicules. This new taxon, with innovative characters (autapomorphies), furthers our understanding of early lobopodian diversification. Antennacanthopodia is considered closely allied to extant Onychophora based on considerable anatomical similarities. Taken together its “two-segmented” cephalization and appendage-bearing “ocular segment”, this new form may shed some new light on the arthropod groundplan.

A new genus and species of the tribe Protosternini, Sphaerocetum malayanum gen. & sp. n., is described from the peninsular Malaysia (Perak). A detailed description is provided along with habitus photographs, line drawings and SEM micrographs of relevant diagnostic characters. Although clearly belonging to the Protosternini, the new genus varies in several characters previously considered as uniform within the tribe; these characters are discussed in detail. An updated identification key to protosternine genera is also provided.

A new genus and species of epigean pseudoscorpions belonging to the subfamily Neobisiinae Chamberlin, 1930, is described from western Georgia and its diagnostic characters are illustrated. Cornuroncus n. gen. resembles the genus Roncus L. Koch, 1873 in several characters but differs by having a short dorso-distal spine on tarsus IV, and the presence of a ventral tooth on one of the claws of tarsus IV. An identification key for all valid Neobisiinae genera is provided.

Hamadiana chapadensis gen. n. and sp. n. is described based on a single male specimen collected in Central Brazil. The new species belongs to the diving beetle tribe Laccophilini but could not be assigned to any existing genera, therefore a new genus is described to accommodate it. Hamadiana gen. n. is unique among Laccophilini in having the hind margin of the metacoxal process deeply incised and medially slightly protruded backwards. In addition, it differs from other genera of the tribe by having the antennomeres simple, not expanded, the metacoxal lines not straight, and the metatibiae with two simple apical spurs. The habitus, male genitalia, and diagnostic features are illustrated, and a distribution map is provided. A recently published key to Laccophilini is modified to include the new genus.

A new genus in the order Sporolithales (Corallinophycidae, Rhodophyta), Roseapetra farriae gen. et sp. nov. is described, based on material from northern New Zealand. Previously placed in the genus Heydrichia on the basis of morpho-anatomical characters, phylogenetic analyses have shown that this northern New Zealand taxon is not resolved with either Heydrichia or Sporolithon, the two genera currently recognized in this order. Roseapetra displays the key diagnostic features of the order, namely the production of cruciately divided tetrasporangia singly within calcified sporangial compartments. In Roseapetra the tetrasporangia are surrounded by an involucre, and mature tetrasporangia are subtended by up to three stalk cells. The tetrasporangial compartments are shed once spores have been released. Gametangial conceptacles are not shed but become buried, with secondary meristem producing lens-like areas of regrowth. While there are several morpho-anatomical characters that separate Roseapetra and Sporolithon, there are none that can be used to distinguish Roseapetra from Heydrichia: recognition of Roseapetra requires sequence data. Roseapetra farriae is found growing in the low intertidal zone on rocky reefs in shaded, understorey habitats.

In this contribution, a new genus (and species) of Ceratocryptina (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae, Cryptinae, Cryptini): Dorothee panguanensis n. sp. is described from Peru. A diagnosis and an identification key to that subtribe of Cryptini are provided.

Gymnotocinclus anosteos, a new genus and species, is described from a headwater stream of the upper rio Tocantins basin in central Brazil. The new taxon is distinguished from other loricariids by the extreme reduction of dermal plates, having an almost completely naked body. Three other diagnostic features are: the absence of the lateral connecting bone, absence of bifid hemal spines, and odontode tips in the last dermal plates on the caudal peduncle dorsally or anteriorly curved. These derived features are not shared with any other hypoptopomine genus and the new taxon is hypothesized to be a basal member of the subfamily. Character states proposed by previous phylogenies of the subfamily are examined in the new taxon and its relationships are discussed.
