The research is aimed to figure out the comparison of the strength capacity and economic value comparison of castellated steel beam to its equivalent IWF beam. The profile of the castellated steel beam in this study included all profiles of castellated steel beam on the market based on the products catalog of the castellated steel beam from PT. Gunung Garuda. The finite element method was used in this study with the aid from Abaqus program to get a comparison of the strength capacity of castellated steel beam to its equivalent IWF beam. The next stage next involved the calculation of a comparison of the economic value of the castellated steel beam with hexagonal holes with to its equivalent IWF beam. The results of the study showed that the castellated steel beam experienced an increase in the strength capacity of 1,189 up to 2,330 times compared to its equivalent IWF beam. The comparison of the strength capacity between the castellated steel beam and its equivalent IWF beam is at 1,010 up to 1,539. Based on the combination between the comparison of strength capacity and the economic value, there are 14 (58.33%) profiles of the castellated steel beam which is categorized as efficient in terms of the design of the structure and cost, there are four (16.67%) profiles of the castellated steel beam which is categorized as efficient in terms of the design of the structure but not efficient in terms of cost, and there are 6 (25.00%) profiles of the castellated steel beam which is categorized as inefficient in terms of the design of the structure and cost. The results of this study indicate that the castellated steel beam can replace its equivalent IWF beam. Selection of profile of the castellated steel beam is appropriate to provide efficiency in terms of weight of the structure between 58.5% to 15.1% and can provide efficiency in terms of cost of between 48.4% to 0.9%.

This paper firstly introduces the principle and characteristic of traditional extrusion tapping of internal thread, elaborates the material flow law during tapping process. Then puts forward a novel process of vibration-assisted extrusion tapping of internal thread, explains the effect mechanism of vibration during extrusion tapping of internal thread. Finally, with the finite element method (FEM), the simplified model of extrusion tapping are built, and the simulation of thread forming process of traditional extrusion tapping of internal thread are conducted, furthermore, the characteristic and influencing law of different vibration parameters (include vibration frequency, amplitude and direction) of vibration-assisted extrusion tapping of internal thread are studied, and some practical results are obtained. The simulation results show that applying vibration to extrusion tapping of internal thread can reduce tapping torque and improve thread forming quality, the reasonable selection of vibration parameters are very crucial to this novel process.

A new method for material selection in structure design based on the theory of the finite element method was presented. The method made material selection and structure design working at the same time. The mathematical model was established based on the finite element method. Finally, the material selection of an excavator's boom was verified, the results show that the proposed method is effective and feasible.

The influence of the frame structure’s deformation of the automatic hydraulic tile press on energy consumption has long been neglected. In this paper, a case study in two common beam-column types hydraulic automatic tile press, get the deformations of the columns produced by the tensile by using the finite element method, and then calculate their energy consumption due to deformations. Through analysis and comparison, provide a reference for future design and selection of the hydraulic automatic tile press.

In this paper, the finite element method for modelling of microchannel flow and heat transfer is discussed. The situations that need unstructured mesh technology are highlighted in addition to the flexible nature of the finite element method for problems with the need for adaptive refinement. Many of these aspects are demonstrated by solving flow and heat transfer through microchannels. Both mechanically driven and electrokinetically driven single phase flows in microchannels are considered. A brief discussion is provided on enhancement methods in which the finite element modelling can help. Only a selection of results are presented in this paper. More results will be presented during the conference.
