To solve the actual task of finding optimal generation mix and dispatch of thermal and nuclear power units, and hydro units of hydro pumped storages of Ukraine to cover day load power profile according to one of possible wind and solar generation curtailment mode the modification of mathematical MIP model is proposed. There are three modes of wind and solar generation curtailment revised in the article: 1) absolute maximum generation curtailment, 2) single for whole day decreased load factor, and 3) one per one hour decreased load factor. The possibility to allocate an exogenously determined level of frequency containment reserves (secondary reserves) on thermal power units is realized in the MIP model. The calculation’s results analysis shows that among revised wind and solar generation curtailment methods the method 2) is most appropriate in the short term because only administrative measures implementation is required, which could be put into force with appropriate legislation and does not require essential investments or implementation of complicated technical measures. The additional possible positive effect caused by the implementation of method 2) is it makes background for participation wind and solar generation in the ancillary services market and intraday balancing. In the middle term, the gradual implementation of method 3) is the most appropriate decision because a more stable power system balancing mode (minimum import/export amounts) could be provided. Moreover, extra nuclear power units and fewer coal thermal power units could be dispatched that is decreases hazard pollutions and carbon emission. The MIP model is written using MathProg language, a freeware version of AMPL. As a solver, the GNU GLPK program is used. The overall time for one calculation with standard table PC is about 30 seconds. MIP model could be used both for short-term power system optimal dispatch and for long-term national generation mix development studies under the growth rates of renewable installed capacities. Abstract In this paper short-term planning algorithm for hybrid power system consist of different types of cascade hydropower plants (run-of-the river, pumped storage, conventional), thermal power plants (coal-fired power plants, combined cycle gas-fired power plants) and wind farms is presented. The optimization process provides a joint bid of the hybrid system, and thus making the operation schedule of hydro and thermal power plants, the operation condition of pumped-storage hydropower plants with the aim of maximizing profits on day ahead market, according to expected hourly electricity prices, the expected local water inflow in certain hydropower plants, and the expected production of electrical energy from the wind farm, taking into account previously contracted bilateral agreement for electricity generation. Optimization process is formulated as hourly-discretized mixed integer linear optimization problem. Optimization model is applied on the case study in order to show general features of the developed model.

The third frequency adjustment is the key link of the grid frequency regulation. The admission of high capacity and rejection of small capacity policy on thermal power cause the lack of capacity of the third frequency adjustment. Wind power brings about a certain impact to the frequency stability of the power system, particularly, increasing the difficulty of the third frequency adjustment. The introduction of nuclear power into the third frequency adjustment has been proposed after analyzing the characteristics of the energy generation of different forms. This paper formulate the control strategy with the core of wind power decomposition, generator units grouping in the third frequency adjustment, after elaborating the technical feasibility and economic feasibility, and, come to a conclusion that the participation of the nuclear in the third frequency adjustment would guarantee the stability of the frequency of the power system with this control strategy in the case of the introduction of wind power to the system, by simulation analysis.

Optimizing existing nuclear power plants adding developing power technology can help find effective ways of improving variable power loads in an electric power system. One of the most promising options is combining a nuclear power plant with a newly developed autonomous hydrogen complex reported in our research. The ability of storing unused energy and releasing it when needed will raise contribution of nuclear power plants in compensating improving variable power loads, shorten emissions as well as contribution of conventional thermal power plants into electric power generation. Also, as we demonstrated in our previous research results, a low-power steam turbine plant used in the said autonomous hydrogen complex can support an auxiliary power system of a nuclear power plant reusing residual reactor heat in case of an outage.

The paper considers one of the possible options to solve the actual task for the Integrated Power System (IPS) of Ukraine regarding creating deficit-free primary, secondary and tertiary reserves, which is an important condition for successful integration of IPS of Ukraine into ENTSO-E. The increase of the level of reserves of IPS of Ukraine could be provided by the implementation of the dedicated technological system (NPP+powerful electric boilers) which should be connected at the "points" where a nuclear power plant (NPP) is connected to the grid. It is assumed that the use of the proposed technological system with electric boilers' capacity of 2000 MW in the IPS of Ukraine will allow the substitution of about 10 thermal power plant's (TPP) units, which provide secondary reserves. Implementation of proposed option also aimed at fulfillment "National Plan on Reduction of Emissions from big burning units", and also allow reduce consumption of organic fuel, namely the coal, that is prescribed by Energy Strategy of Ukraine till 2035. According to preliminary estimates, the proposed technological system complies with the main categories of "Methodology for the analysis of costs and benefits of projects for the development of electrical networks". Keywords: integrated power system, electric boiler, load profile, wholesale electricity market
