An algorithm to confirm the seismic resistance of equipment by a calculation method is proposed, and the limits of its application are determined. A mathematical model of the equipment is developed, and an example of the determination of natural frequencies and stresses for a three-dimensional structure is given. Two main types of calculation were used – static and dynamic. In the static calculation, the stress-strain state of a structure was determined. The values of the obtained stresses were compared with the allowable ones for the materials used, on the basis of which conclusions were made about the strength of the structure under seismic effects. The dynamic calculation resulted in the determination of the rigidity of the structure. The comparison of the stress values obtained for this equipment allowed us to make a conclusion regarding its resistance to seismic effects. The seismic resistance of the equipment was estimated on the example of the K-1000-60 / 1500 steam turbine condenser, and calculated at a seismic intensity of 6 points on the MSK-64 seismic intensity scale. In the course of solving this problem, results of the stress distribution in the housing and other structural elements of the condenser due to the action of combined normal operation and design-basis seismic loads were obtained. The seismic resistance of the equipment was calculated using the finite element method. This allowed us to present a solid body in the form of a set of individual finite elements that interact with each other in a finite number of nodal points. To these points are applied some interaction forces that characterize the influence of the distributed internal stresses applied along the real boundaries of adjacent elements. To perform such a calculation in CAD modeling software, a three-dimensional model was created. The obtained geometric model was imported into the software package, which significantly reduced complexity. The use of the calculation method allows us to significantly reduce the amount of testing when confirming the seismic resistance of equipment. Results of the assessment of the spatial complex stress state of the steam turbine condenser design due to the action of combined normal operation and design-basis seismic loads are obtained.

The contribution presents a new calculation method for more exact determination of increase of thermal transmittance due to thermal bridges ΔU. Since each building is three-dimensional, to get the objective and exact results, the calculation of heat losses of a building should be carried out using three-dimensional model. However, the 3D calculation is practically rather difficult and very hard realizable in building practice in Slovakia nowadays. It is much simpler to model and calculate a building as two-dimensional. The calculation method presented in this contribution is based on the modeling two-dimensional sections of the whole building taking into account the building as a whole.

The present knowledge of the three-dimensional structure of ribosomes is far too limited to enable a complete understanding of the various roles which ribosomes play in protein biosynthesis. The spatial arrangement of proteins and ribonuclec acids in ribosomes can be analysed in many ways. Determination of binding sites for individual proteins on ribonuclec acid and locations of the mutual positions of proteins on the ribosome using labeling with fluorescent dyes, cross-linking reagents, neutron-diffraction or antibodies against ribosomal proteins seem to be most successful approaches. Structure and function of ribosomes can be correlated be depleting the complete ribosomes of some proteins to the functionally inactive core and by subsequent partial reconstitution in order to regain active ribosomal particles.

The article offers a method and program for experimental studies of reinforced concrete structures with cross-shaped spatial crack under torsion with bending, the main purpose of which is to check the design assumptions and experimental determination of the design parameters of the proposed calculation method. The conducted experimental studies provide an opportunity to test the proposed calculation apparatus and clarify the regularities for determining deflections, angles of rotation of extreme sections, and stresses in the compressed zone of concrete. For analysis, the article presents a typical experimental scheme for the formation and development of cracks in the form of a sweep, as well as characteristic graphs of the dependence of the angles of rotation of end sections.

AbstractDistribution of wax in laser printer toner was observed using an ultra-high-voltage (UHV) and a medium-voltage transmission electron microscope (TEM). As the radius of the wax spans a hundred to greater than a thousand nanometers, its three-dimensional recognition via TEM requires large depth of focus (DOF) for a volumetric specimen. A tomogram with a series of the captured images would allow the determination of their spatial distribution. In this study, bright-field (BF) images acquired with UHV-TEM at a high tilt angle prevented the construction of the tomogram. Conversely, the Z-contrast images acquired by the medium-voltage TEM produced a successful tomogram. The spatial resolution for both is discussed, illustrating that the image degradation was primarily caused by beam divergence of the Z-contrast image and the combination of DOF and chromatic aberration of the BF image from the UHV-TEM.
