We present the first record of Gomesa leinigii (Pabst) M.W. Chase & N.H. Williams in São Paulo state, Brazil, previously known only in the state of Paraná, extended its geographical distribution. We also document newly discovered populations of Macradenia paraensis Barb.Rodr. and Peperomia psilostachya C.DC. in São Paulo state, Brazil. Description, comments, conservation status, photographic figures and a distribution map of these species are presented.

Heimbra bicolor Subba Rao, 1978 (Hymenoptera, Eurytomidae) was previously known in Mexico, Argentina, Paraguay, and Brazil, with records in Federal District and Rio Grande do Norte, Minas Gerais, and Santa Catarina states. Here, we newly report this species from the state of São Paulo based on three females collected at Estação Ecológica de Jataí, in the municipality of Luiz Antônio, São Paulo state, Brazil. Additionally, we provide a map with the geographical distribution of the species based on the new record and literature. This record increases the number of species of Heimbra known in São Paulo state to two species.

The freshwater mussel Limnoperna fortunei (Dunker 1856) (Bivalvia, Mytilidae) has been found in the Paraná river, near Rosana, São Paulo. This is the first record of this specie in São Paulo State. This population of Limnoperna fortunei seems to be young and in a colonization process.

Since 2000, the expansion of Sylvatic Yellow Fever (YF) has been observed in the southeast of Brazil, being detected in areas considered silent for decades. Epizootics in non-human primates (NHPs) are considered sentinel events for the detection of human cases. It is important to report epizootic events that could have impact on the conservation status of susceptible species. We describe the epizootics in NHPs, notified in state of São Paulo, Brazil, between September 2008 to August 2009. Ninety-one epizootic events, involving 147 animals, were reported in 36 counties. Samples were obtained from 65 animals (44.2%). Most of the epizootics (46.6%) were reported between March and April, the same period during which human cases of YF occurred in the state. Biological samples were collected from animals found dead and were sent to Instituto Adolfo Lutz, in São Paulo. Two samples, collected in two counties without an indication for YF vaccination, were positive for the virus. Another 48 animals were associated with YF by clinical-epidemiological linkage with laboratory confirmed cases. Because the disease in human and NHPs occurred in the same period, the detection of the virus in NHPs did not work as sentinel, but aided in the delineation of new areas of risk.

Pseudopaludicola atragula is one of the most recently described species for the genus. Distributional records for this species were restricted to two muni­cipalities in northwestern São Paulo state. Herein, we extend its distribution range and report the first record of the species in Cerrado areas of the state of Goiás, central Brazil.

Croton is the second largest genus of Euphorbiaceae with about 1200 species worldwide. Brazil has around 350 species of Croton in all kinds of habitats, but with a great number of species concentrated in the eastern part of the country. The present work increases the number of Croton species in São Paulo to 38, due to our recent discovery of Croton echinocarpus in this state. We also provide comments on the taxonomy, photographs and a distribution map for this species.

The present note extends the geographic range of Leucospis signifera Bouček, 1974 farther to the Northeast, reaching the State of São Paulo, based on the examination of four females collected at Jataí Ecological Station, municipality of Luiz Antônio, São Paulo State, Brazil. The present finding indicates that L. signifera is associated with dry ecosystems, at least in part of its geographic distribution.

Fish were studied in two river basins (Corumbataí and Jacaré-Pepira) subjected to strong human pressure, in the interior of the State of São Paulo, southeastern Brazil. In the Corumbataí basin, four sites were sampled: Cabeça river, Lapa stream, Passa-Cinco river, and Corumbataí river; in the Jacaré-Pepira basin, three sites were sampled: Tamanduá stream, Jacaré-Pepira river, and Água Branca stream. A total of 4,050 specimens belonging to 48 species and 13 families were caught and analyzed.
