First record of Eulaema helvola Moure (Hymenoptera: Apidae: Euglossina) for the State of Minas Gerais: biogeographic and taxonomic implications

Ameerega flavopicta is a dart-poison frog (Dendrobatidae) widely distributed throughout rocky habitats in the Brazilian states of Minas Gerais, Goiás, Tocanthins, Pará, and Maranhão. Here we repoert for the first record of a dendrobatid frog in the State of São Paulo, Brazil, based on individuals of A. flavopicta found in the Municipality of Pedregulho, and also describe the advertisement calls of a male from this population. A taxonomic discussion is provided.

In this study we report the first record of the giant torrent frog Megaelosia apuana in the state of Minas Gerais, southeastern Brazil. The finding of this species at Reserva Particular do Patrimônio Natural (RPPN) Mata do Sossego, municipality of Simonésia, east of Minas Gerais extends its geographic distribution by 120 km from the type locality, and 45 km northwest from its westernmost known record. Leptodactylus sertanejo is a mid-sized frog that inhabits areas of the Cerrado Biome, in natural and artificial grassland areas, in the states of Minas Gerais, São Paulo, Bahia, Goiás and Tocantins, Brazil. Herein, we provide the first species record for the state of Maranhão, northeastern Brazil, expanding the known distribution of L. sertanejo ca. 420 km northeast from the Parque Estadual do Jalapão, Tocantins state.

We present a new record of the Crested Eagle, Morphnus guianensis (Daudin, 1800), a rare forest eagle of the Neotropics on 22 May 2012 at a Cerrado area in Minas Gerais state, southeastern Brazil. The species has only two historical records in the state, both at areas formerly covered by Atlantic Forest. The finding raises the expectations for the maintenance of the species in the state, stressing the fact that this is the first species record in a Cerrado area in Eastern Brazilian states.

We present the first record of Urostrophus vautieri for the state of Espírito Santo and a distribution map for the species. This species was previoulsy known from the states of Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Paraná, Santa Catarina, and Rio Grande do Sul. The present record represent an extension of nearly 200 km to the North from the nearest published record for the species.

Scinax comprises more than 120 species which are split in two clades, the S. ruber and the S. catharinae clades. A few species within the S. catharinae clade occur in gallery forests of the Brazilian Cerrado. We here extend the distribution of S. centralis southwards based on new populations sampled in the banks of the Rio Paranaíba, in the borders of Minas Gerais (MG) and Goiás (GO) states, southeastern Brazil. We also provide further data on the species vocalization. Variation was seen among our population and topotypes regarding SVL and call dominant frequency, both likely representing a clinal variation. Our new population of S. centralis represents the first record of the species for the state of Minas Gerais.

Scinax tripui is a medium sized frog that belongs to the Scinax catharinae clade. We provide a new record of Scinax tripui from Serra de Torres, Espírito Santo state, southeastern Brazil. This is the first record outside the specie’s type locality (Ouro Preto, Minas Gerais) and the first record from the state of Espírito Santo.

The Pipidae family is represented by seven frog species in South America and Panama, strictly linked to aquatic environments. Pipa carvalhoi is currently distributed in the states of Bahia, Ceará, Espírito Santo, Minas Gerais, Paraíba and Pernambuco, in Brazil. We report the first record of Pipa carvalhoi for the state of Sergipe, Brazil, in the Conservation Unity Monumento Natural Grota do Angico, Poço Redondo municipality. This study significantly expands the distribution of the species in northeastern Brazil.

Here we provide the first record of Ceriomydas crassipes (Westwood, 1841) from the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Previously, this species was recorded only in the southeastern Brazilian states of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo. Therefore, this record extends the range of C. crassipes further south to include the southernmost state of Brazil.
