Leptodactylus sertanejo is a mid-sized frog that inhabits areas of the Cerrado Biome, in natural and artificial grassland areas, in the states of Minas Gerais, São Paulo, Bahia, Goiás and Tocantins, Brazil. Herein, we provide the first species record for the state of Maranhão, northeastern Brazil, expanding the known distribution of L. sertanejo ca. 420 km northeast from the Parque Estadual do Jalapão, Tocantins state.

Ameerega flavopicta is a dart-poison frog (Dendrobatidae) widely distributed throughout rocky habitats in the Brazilian states of Minas Gerais, Goiás, Tocanthins, Pará, and Maranhão. Here we repoert for the first record of a dendrobatid frog in the State of São Paulo, Brazil, based on individuals of A. flavopicta found in the Municipality of Pedregulho, and also describe the advertisement calls of a male from this population. A taxonomic discussion is provided.

Here we provide the first record of Ceriomydas crassipes (Westwood, 1841) from the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Previously, this species was recorded only in the southeastern Brazilian states of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo. Therefore, this record extends the  range of C. crassipes further south to include the southernmost state of Brazil.

RESUMO: Neste trabalho são revelados alguns acontecimentos de ordem evolutiva, que prestaram um importante papel na formação e delineamento do quadro atual da fauna e da flora dos cerrados, partindo do intercâmbio faunístico ocorrido entre as Américas do Sul e do Norte. Está demonstrada a configuração atual do cerrado dentro das paisagens brasileiras e a influência dos paleoclimas e paleoambientes no avanço e recuo da flora e da fauna dessa região. O bioma cerrado é um espaço territorial marcadamente planáltico em sua área “core”, e reconhecido como um dos mais ricos do mundo em biodiversidade, constituído por diversos ecossistemas, distribuído principalmente pelo planalto central brasileiro, abrangendo os Estados de Goiás, Tocantins, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais, Distrito Federal, Mato Grosso, sul do Piauí, e Maranhão, oeste da Bahia, parte de São Paulo e Rondônia. Há outras áreas de cerrado, chamadas periféricas ou ecótonos, que são transições com os biomas Amazônicos, Mata Atlântica e Caatinga. A região também é marcada pelo aspecto hidrográfico, pois armazena água doce em importantes aquíferos e é responsável pela perenização de grande parte das bacias brasileiras. O entendimento sobre os aspectos ambientais do cerrado exige uma análise integrada entre os elementos da fauna, flora e o espaço geográfico, como eles se relacionam com os demais componentes da natureza, principalmente os aspectos climáticos, que estabelecem uma sazonalidade na região. Acredita-se que, a grande biodiversidade do cerrado, está vinculada a diversidade de ambientes. Esta correlação permite nos vislumbrar o ambiente na sua totalidade, o que facilita o estabelecimento adequado de políticas ambientais para o bioma do cerrado. Com o passar dos anos e por influência do clima, a vida na região encontrou formas de adaptação que garantiram a sobrevivência de diversas espécies, entre elas o homem. Este convívio entre os elementos da natureza e fatores climáticos contribuíram para o endemismo florístico, mas também para composição do quadro faunístico regional e brasileiro.

The Pipidae family is represented by seven frog species in South America and Panama, strictly linked to aquatic environments. Pipa carvalhoi is currently distributed in the states of Bahia, Ceará, Espírito Santo, Minas Gerais, Paraíba and Pernambuco, in Brazil. We report the first record of Pipa carvalhoi for the state of Sergipe, Brazil, in the Conservation Unity Monumento Natural Grota do Angico, Poço Redondo municipality. This study significantly expands the distribution of the species in northeastern Brazil.

Leptodactylus mystaceus, a widespread species over South America, is diagnosed based on specimens from the State of São Paulo, its southernmost geographic distribution limit. Here we present the first record of this species for Southeastern Brazil, extending its distribution for approximately 1,300 km to the southeast. We also include a description of its advertisement call, natural history data, photograph in life and morphological illustrations that make easier the identification of the species.

 This report provides the new record of the sponge Radiospongilla inesi and the slug Omalonyx matheroni for the Vale do Paraiba, State of São Paulo, southeastern Brazil, besides the symbiosis among R. inesi and individuals of some benthic macroinvertebrates. Monthly collections were carried out in the Ribeirão dos Mottas, with a 0.5 cm sieve in the edge vegetation, as well as collections by hand. Three specimens of R. inesi were found, from a lotic environment under pebbles. In addition, individuals of four insect families, Sisyridae, Hydropsychidae, Chironomidae e Simuliidae, were found on the sponge aquiferous system. Six individuals of the semi-aquatic slug O. matheroni were also caught under rocks and cans. Despite the sponges are commonly found in the most of the environments, the freshwater species represents one of the most unknown animal groups of the world.  R. inesi was report at first time in Brazil in Pernambuco State, northeastern Brazil region, and this report represents just the second record of this species in Brazil, and the first time to the southeastern region. The presence of individuals of four insect families pointing out the importance of R. inesi on the life history of these animals. Despite some records of Omalonix sp. to the São Paulo State, this report seems to be the first record of the O. matheroni to the Vale do Paraíba, northern of the São Paulo State.

The freshwater mussel Limnoperna fortunei (Dunker 1856) (Bivalvia, Mytilidae) has been found in the Paraná river, near Rosana, São Paulo. This is the first record of this specie in São Paulo State. This population of Limnoperna fortunei seems to be young and in a colonization process.

Abstract. This paper provide the first record of Protomydas coerulescens (Olivier) for states of Amazonas, Rôndonia and Tocantins, Brazil. Previously, this species was recorded in Colombia and Brazil (Pará, Mato Grosso, Minas Gerais, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro). Illustration and map of distribution of P. coerulescens are provided.Novos registros de distribuição de Protomydas coerulescens (Olivier) (Diptera: Mydidae)Resumo. Este trabalho fornece os primeiros registros de Protomydas coerulescens (Olivier) para os estados brasileiros do Amazonas, Rondônia e Tocantins, Brasil. Esta espécie possuía registros prévios para Colômbia e Brasil (Pará, Mato Grosso, Minas Gerais, São Paulo e Rio de Janeiro). Aqui são fornecidos ilustrações e um mapa atualizado dos registros de distribuição de P. coerulescens.
