The paper characterizes poplar (Populus alba, P. nigra) and white willow (Salix alba) forests of the Irtysh and the Black Irtysh river floodplain, together with the silvery salt tree (Halimodendron halodendron) community of the Black Irtysh river floodplain. The Black Irtysh floodplain willow and poplar forests are separated into a new alliance, Rubio dolichophyllae—Populion albae Taran all. nov. (Salicetalia purpureae Moor 1958, Salicetea purpureae Moor 1958), which includes the associations Rubio dolichophyllae—Populetum albae Taran 1997 and Rubio dolichophyllae—Salicetum albae Taran ass. nov. The Halimodendron halodendron community is probably related to the class Nerio-Tamaricetea Br.-Bl. et de Bolós 1958. White poplar forests in the Irtysh R. upper reaches, described within the Semipalatinsk city limits, belong to the association Heracleo dissecti—Populetum albae Taran 1997 and its subassociation H. d. —P. a. lamietosum albi Taran 1997 (Equiseto hyemalis—Populion nigrae Taran 1997, Salicetalia purpureae Moor 1958).

A complex gradient of environmental factors exists on river floodplains oriented perpendicular to and affected by the river system. Previous investigations on the development and structure of floodplain forests have not adequately considered the possible effects of minor drainages intersecting the floodplains on vegetation distributions. The density distributions of Fraxinusamericana and Cornusflorida in the lower floodplain region of a portion of the Raritan River system intersected by Chambers Brook in central New Jersey illustrate that minor drainages may be dominant landscape features affecting woody species distributions. Minor drainages appear to primarily affect flooding and drainage patterns and thereby alter the orientation of the complex environmental gradient associated with the river system. When sampling on a floodplain it is important to consider sampling position relative to all drainages to ensure that samples collected at various locations along the floodplain represent similar sets of environmental conditions.

The article presents a comprehensive assessment of the geoecological risk of the Belaya River floodplain (Republic of Bashkortostan, Russia). The risk assessment of the floodplain-channel complex includes the risk of depletion by the plant species composition and the risk of depletion of the ecological and hydrological states. Geographic information maps of the floodplain were compiled for vegetation and floodplain forests and wetlands. The extent of forest cover was chosen as an indicator of the floodplain’s resilience to the risk of depletion and decline. The calculation of the risk of depletion of floodplains based on the ecological and hydrological state was carried out taking into account the changes in floodplain areas over the past 10 years, data on the catchment of ground and surface waters, “sealed” areas and the annual average discharge. The assessment and zoning of the river floodplain territory was carried out according to the proposed method.

The article presents experimental data on the effect of drip irrigation on the yield and quality of tomato fruits when growing crops in open ground of the Moscow Region. On fertile alluvial meadow soils of the Moscow river floodplain, with the observance of agricultural technology without irrigation, the field yield of tomato hybrid F1 Donskoi on average for three years of research was 31.9 t/ha, with irrigation 48.5 t/ha, incl. standard production 42.6 t/ha.

Geobotanical survey of floodplain natural complexes near gypsum outcrops in the Pinega river valley was done in 2015. Large-scale geobotanical map of the key polygon (scale 1 : 30 000) was composed. Typological units of vegetation were selected on the basis of the composition of dominant species and groups of indicator species. Homogeneous and heterogeneous territorial units of vegetation (serial series, combinations, environmental series) were used. 53 mapped unit types (25 homogeneous types and 28 heterogeneous types) were recognized. The floodplain vegetation consists of 17 homogeneous types of plant communities, 3 series, 14 combinations and 6 ecological series. The sites of old floodplain forests, such as willow forests with Urtica sondenii rare in the Arkhangelsk region and oxbow wet meadows with Scolochloa festucacea were identified.

In the Ob river floodplain between the mouths of its tributaries Vakh and Tym (within the limits of Aleksandrovskiy district of Tomsk region), phytocoenoses belonging to 9 associations and 2 communities of Braun-Blanquet classification vegetation classes are listed. Class Lemnetea is represented by associations Ricciocarpetum natantis (Segal 1963) Tx. 1974, Lemnetum trisulcae Soó 1927, Stratiotetum aloidis Miljan 1933; class Potametea is done by associations Potametum perfoliati Koch 1926, Myriophylletum sibirici Taran 1998, Myriophylletum verticillati Soó 1927, Potametum graminei Koch 1926, Potametum pectinati Carstensen 1955, Nymphoidetum peltatae (All. 1922) Bellot 1951, as well as Sagittaria natans and Potamogeton natans—Ceratophyllum demersum communities. The syntaxa distribution in Western Siberia and adjoining territories is characterized.
