Low provision of cells with vitamin B2 and magnesium leads to a decrease in the activity of the sirtuin-1 deacetylase and an increase in the activity of the pro-inflammatory factor NF-kB, a decrease in the levels of glutathione, an increase in the levels of homocysteine, thrombus formation, the activity of mitochondria, the development of migraine, convulsions and miscarriage. The role of riboflavin in the regulation of the folate cycle in the genotype MTHFR 677TT for the prevention of folatresistant fetal malformations, the advantages of an aqueous solution of riboflavin and magnesium citrate is considered. The data on titanium dioxide, which increases the level of pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-1b, IL-4, IL-5, IL-6, G-CSF, CCL-2, CCL-3, CCL-4, are presented.

Abstract Self-incompatibility (SI) is a mechanism for preventing self-fertilization in flowering plants. In Brassica, it is controlled by a single multi-allelic locus, S, and it is believed that two highly polymorphic genes in the S locus, SLG and SRK, play central roles in self-recognition in stigmas. SRK is a putative receptor protein kinase, whose extracellular domain exhibits high similarity to SLG. We analyzed two pairs of lines showing cross-incompatibility (S2 and S2-b; S13 and S13-b). In S2 and S2-b, SRKs were more highly conserved than SLGs. This was also the case with S13 and S13-b. This suggests that the SRKs of different lines must be conserved for the lines to have the same self-recognition specificity. In particular, SLG2-b showed only 88.5% identity to SLG2, which is comparable to that between the SLGs of different S haplotypes, while SRK2-b showed 97.3% identity to SRK2 in the S domain. These findings suggest that the SLGs in these S haplotypes are not important for self-recognition in SI.

Abstract Differential success of sperm is likely to be an important component of fitness. Extensive variation among male genotypes in competitive success of sperm in multiply mated females has been documented for Drosophila melanogaster. However, virtually all previous studies considered the female to be a passive vessel. Nevertheless, under certain conditions female fitness could be determined by her role in mediating use of sperm from multiple males. Here we ask whether females differ among genotypes in their tendency to exhibit last-male precedence. Competition of sperm from two tester male genotypes (bwD and B3-09, a third-chromosome isogenic line from Beltsville, MD) was quantified by doubly mating female lines that had been rendered homozygous for X, second, or third chromosomes isolated from natural populations. The composite sperm displacement parameter, P2′, was highly heterogeneous among lines, whether or not viability effects were compensated, implying the presence of polymorphic genes affecting access of sperm to eggs. Genetic variation of this type is completely neutral in the absence of pleiotropy or interaction between variation in the two sexes.

(1) Background: The study of susceptibility biomarkers in the immigrant workforce integrated into the social tissue of European host countries is always a challenge, due to high individual heterogeneity and the admixing of different ethnicities in the same workplace. These workers having distinct cultural backgrounds, beliefs, diets, and habits, as well as a poor knowledge of the foreign language, may feel reluctant to donate their biological specimens for the biomonitoring research studies. (2) Methods: A model predicting ethnicity-specific susceptibility based on principal component analysis has been conceived, using the genotype frequency of the investigated populations available in publicly accessible databases. (3) Results: Correlations among ethnicities and between ethnic and polymorphic genes have been found, and low/high-risk profiles have been identified as valuable susceptibility biomarkers. (4) Conclusions: In the absence of workers’ consent or access to blood genotyping, ethnicity represents a good indicator of the subject’s genotype. This model, associating ethnicity-specific genotype frequency with the susceptibility biomarkers involved in the metabolism of toxicants, may replace genotyping, ensuring the necessary safety and health conditions of workers assigned to hazardous jobs.
