Abstract
In this article, we ask how asymmetrical bilinguals with Faroese (FA) as their L(anguage)1 and Faro-Danish (FADA) as their first L2 pronounce the Danish (DA) long vowels. We investigate which of the following three alternatives reflects the actual situation: 1. there is an interaction between the two phonetic subsystems; 2. speakers use Danish pronunciation; or 3. they simply impose the Faroese phonological system onto their Faro-Danish pronunciation.

By describing the vowel system of Faro-Danish, this study contributes significantly to the yet unexplored field of Faro-Danish phonetics, as well as revealing some of the linguistic dynamics that characterizes the bilingual situation in the Faroe Islands.

Úrtak
Her verður kannað, hvussu asymmetriskir tvímælingar við føroyskum sum M(ál)1 og føroyskum-donskum sum M2 bera fram donsk sjálvljóð. Vit kanna, um sínámillum ávirkan er ímillum tær fonetisku skipanirnar, ella um talandi nýta eina danska úttalu ella ota føroyskar framburðarvanar niður yvir føroyskt-danskt.

Henda lýsing okkara av føroyskum-donskum leggur eitt klípi afturat lýsingini av hesum variantinum av donskum.

The purpose of this paper is to discuss the role of insurance companies in solving environmental issues. Environmental issues we now face are many of such magnitude and severity that it is not just up to governments or heavy polluting companies to deal with them, everyone needs to contribute including authorities, institutions, corporations and individuals. Insurance systems differ between countries, but due to the size of the insurance sector and integration with almost every aspect oft society, insurers can be a powerful ally when it comes to implementing environment and climate policies of authorities. The article is based on a Ph.D. research of one of the authors which conducted a multi-case study of 16 Nordic insurance companies in the Åland Islands, Faroe Islands, Iceland, Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden. The companies are divided into two case groups; the Islands group and the Mainland group. Differences in actions/inactions were evident between the case groups, meaning that most of the examples used are from the Mainland group. The environmental and climate change focus areas of the Mainland group are 1) products and services, 2) loss prevention and claim settlement, 3) investments, 4) companies own operation, 5) follow-up, and 6) insurers as a driving force of actions. In case of the Islands companies they mainly focus on loss prevention and few factors that affect their daily activities. Theoretical and practical contribution of the study is to highlight the role and contribution of insurance companies in dealing with environmental issues.

This chapter presents the social innovation project “TrafficO2”, a support system for decision-making in the field of transportation that tries to push commuters towards more sustainable mobility by providing concrete incentives for each responsible choice. After focusing on Palermo, Italy, the context of this case study, this chapter provides a detailed description of the TrafficO2 model. Specifically, the chapter deals with the analysis of a selected sample of users among Palermo University students who commute daily to their respective University departments on campus. Starting from the modal split of the actual situation (Status Quo scenario), another behavior scenario (Do your right mix) is designed and promoted to encourage users to create a better mix of existing mobility means and reduce the use of private vehicles powered by combustibles. The first test that was performed confirmed the reliability of the initiative.

Abstract This research concerns the parametric identification of Johnson-Cook constitutive model which is frequently used to describe the mechanical behavior of metal material at high temperature. An improved multi-objective simulated annealing (MOSA) algorithm is introduced to update Johnson-Cook model based on Gleeble testing data for Steel T24. Our case study produces Pareto solutions ranked by the error corresponding to each parameter to be optimized. This algorithm improves the previous methods and yields a more suitable solution corresponding to the actual situation.
