Purpose – The purpose of this study is to summarize recent commentary and research about employee engagement. It offers information on practices and suggestions aimed at helping human resource specialists and general managers to stimulate opportunities for employees to become more engaged in their work. Design/methodology/approach – Discusses employee engagement based on an extensive literature review of recent research and commentary regarding the concept. Findings – Advances the view that, depending upon one’s organizational culture, work tasks and employee characteristics, there are many practical opportunities for managers to help employees to become more engaged in their work and organization. Practical implications – Explains how employee involvement can help to improve product quality, cut costs, bolster employee retention and boost organizational performance. Social implications – Argues that employees have to find personal meaning in their work to be engaged. Originality/value – Serves as a refresher for those interested in the concept of employee engagement. Offers practical suggestions for human resource specialists.

This paper is based on the project of a large-scale company’s OSTA system. In view of the situation of low efficiency, inaccuracy and fallibility during the OSTA departments handmade data process, the solution which is based on JSF、Spring and iBATIS should be pointed out. Combined with the latest Web technology, the OSTA system has realized IT management, which should share the whole information with original human resource system.

Recently, human resource practices have been considered as the foremost solution for high organizational performance and attained the focus of recent studies and regulators. Therefore, the present study investigates the impact of human resource practices such as recruitment and selection, training and development, reward and compensation, and performance management on SMEs performance in Pakistan. The present research also examines the mediating role of employee engagement among the nexus of recruitment and selection, training and development, reward and compensation, performance management, and SMEs performance in Pakistan. This research has adopted the questionnaires to collect the data and executed the smart-PLS to analyze the data. The results revealed that recruitment and selection, training and development, reward and compensation, and performance management have a positive association with SMEs’ performance. The findings also exposed that employee engagement positively mediating the links among recruitment and selection, training and development, reward and compensation, performance management, and SMEs performance in Pakistan. This study has provided the guidelines to the policymakers that they should extend their focus towards human resource practices that improve organizational performance.
