This study aims to determine and comparing the level of operational efficiency of Islamic Life Insurance and Conventional Life Insurance in Indonesia. This study uses a quantitative non-parametric approach With Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) CRS and VRS assumption, and a statistical tool Mann-Whitney U-Test. The samples are 13 Islamic Insurance and 5 Conventional Insurance that comply with the specified sample criteria. During 2010 to 2014, the relative average value of Islamic Life Insurance and Conventional Life Insurance with VRS assumption more efficient than CRS assumption. This indicates that in relative terms, the source of operational inefficiency is not effective on the efficiency scale. While the hypothesis test results showed no significant differences in levels of operational efficiency in both groups the data by CRS assumptions and VRS.

This research is aimed to measure the efficiency of Islamic Insurance Companies in Indonesia by using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). The sample used in this research are the Islamic Insurance Companies that publishes their full financial statements from the years 2012-2014. The variables in this study consists of two kinds of variables, namely input variables and output variables. The variable input is the total assets and the cost of commissions. While the variable output is the gross contribution and investment income. This study uses the intermediation approach with input orientation and use three types of measurements are the measurement of the efficiency of technical efficiency, pure technical and scale. The results of this study are in the groups of Islamic General Insurance Companies and Islamic Life Insurance Companies there are no company that achieve optimal efficiency levels in the three types of measurements.Whereas in the group Syariah General Insurance Unit are 2 companies optimally efficient in 3 measurements or by 28.57% of the total companies sampled in this group. And the group Syariah Life Insurance Unit are 4 companies optimally efficient in 3 measurements or 25% of total companies sampled in this group.

This paper presents a benchmarking study that measures operational efficiency of water service providers. The problem of measuring the operational efficiency of water suppliers is addressed by adopting a non parametric approach based on Data Envelopment Analysis. The benchmarking model uses both physical infrastructure network and financial variables. The model is implemented calculating efficiencies of 53 Italian service providers. Results show that there are important operational inefficiencies, mostly due to scale diseconomies.

With the implementation of new round electricity system reform in China, the provincial electricity grid enterprises (EGEs) of China should focus on improving their operational efficiency to adapt to the increasingly fierce market competition and satisfy the requirements of the electricity industry reform. Therefore, it is essential to conduct operational efficiency evaluation on provincial EGEs. While considering the influences of exterior environmental variables on the operational efficiency of provincial EGEs, a three-stage data envelopment analysis (DEA) methodology is first utilized to accurately assess the real operational efficiency of provincial EGEs excluding the exterior environmental values and statistical noise. The three-stage DEA model takes the amount of employees, the fixed assets investment, the 110 kV and below distribution line length, and the 110 kV and below transformer capacity as input variables and the electricity sales amount, the amount of consumers, and the line loss rate as output variables. The regression results of the stochastic frontier analysis model indicate that the operational efficiencies of provincial EGEs are significantly affected by exterior environmental variables. Results of the three-stage DEA model imply that the exterior environmental values and statistical noise result in the overestimation of operational efficiency of provincial EGEs, and the exclusion of exterior environmental values and statistical noise has provincial-EGE-specific influences. Furthermore, 26 provincial EGEs are divided into four categories to better understand the differences of operational efficiencies before and after the exclusion of exterior environmental values and statistical noise.

This study aims to analyze and compare the efficiency between conventional life insurance companies and Islamic life insurance companies in Indonesia over the period of 2014-2018. The sample of this study was taken from 10 conventional life insurance companies and 10 shariah life insurance companies that were selected based on the purposive sampling technique. Measurement of efficiency in this study was conducted using the method of data envelopment analysis (DEA) based on Bankers-Charnes-Cooper (BCC) and Charnes-Cooper-Rhodes (CCR) models of the value-added approach. This was followed by testing the hypothesis using a different Mann-Whitney U-test. Input variables used are assets, capital, general and administrative costs, and commission expenses. Meanwhile, the output variables are premiums and investment income. The results showed that conventional life insurance companies are more efficient than Islamic life insurance companies based on the BCC and CCR models. Furthermore, the results of different tests using the Mann-Whitney U-test showed an insignificant difference in efficiency between conventional life insurance companies and Islamic life insurance companies during the study period. The results of the comparison of the average efficiency value with the DEA method indicated that the efficiency level of a conventional life insurance company was better than a shariah life insurance company.========================================================================================================Studi Perbandingan Efisiensi antara Asuransi Jiwa Konvensional dengan Syariah Menggunakan Data Envelopment Analysis.
