In this paper, modelling, simulation and verification of multi-agent manufacturing system with application of bio-inspired techniques are addressed. To this end, the new solution of abstract architecture for control and coordination decentralized systems - CODESA is suggested. Centralized architecture suffers from various problems, such as rigidity, scalability, low fault-tolerance or very limited flexibility, agility, energy efficiency and productivity. Prime is concrete application of CODESA in manufacturing domain. The undesirable characteristics of emergent behaviour are the problem to achieve optimization and impossibility to predict future states of the system. CODESA-Prime has been tested by simulations for automatic guided vehicle (AGV) systems guided by magnetic tape in Ella Software Platform.

In the multi-agent system (MAS) context, the theories and practices of evolutionary computation (EC) have new implications, particularly with regard to engineering and shaping system behaviors. Thus, it is important that we consider the embodiment of EC in “real” agents, that is, agents that involve the real restrictions of time and space within MASs. In this chapter, we address these issues in three ways. First, we relate the foundations of EC theory to MAS and consider how general interactions among agents fit within this theory. Second, we introduce a platform independent agent system to assure that our EC methods work within the generic, but realistic, constraints of agents. Finally, we introduce an agent-based system of EC objects. Concluding sections discuss implications and future directions.

An intelligent reconfigurability model based on multi-agent theory was proposed in this paper to improve feasibility of automotive manufacturing system. Each production management department in automobile manufacturing enterprises was designed as an independent agent. The practicability and rationality of the manufacturing system model was simulated as communication and interactive between different agents in this multi-agent system through JAFMAS. The application of multi-agent model in the design of automobile manufacturing system can promote the reconfigurability and intelligent level of the system.

The concept of flexible manufacturing system (FMS) has been purposed to improve flexibility and efficiency of manufacture system. Characteristics and operating mechanism of FMS is analyzed in this paper. Fuzziness and distributive of the Multi-agent system can meet the requirements of building FMS platform. On the basis of the theory mentioned above, this paper proposed an architecture model of FMS based on multi-agent technology. At last, the communication between the agents in the system was researched and designed. The introduction of multi-agent technology not only provides a feasible method of building FMS platform system, but also helps to lucubrate the architecture of FMS.
