Territory protection against flood water inundation and creation of polder systems are carried out with the help of protection dikes. One of the main requirements to the composition of polder systems in flood plains is a location of border dikes beyond meander belt in order to avoid their erosion when meander development occurs. Meander belt width can be determined on the basis of the analysis of multi-year land surveying pertaining top river-bed building and in the case when such data is not available this parameter is calculated in accordance with the Snishchenko formula. While banking-up a river bed a flooded area is decreasing and, consequently, water level in inter-dike space and rate of flood water are significantly increasing. For this reason it is necessary to locate dikes at a such distance from a river bed which will not cause rather high increase in water level and flow velocity in the inter-dike space. Methodology for hydraulic calculation of river regulation has been developed in order to substantiate design parameters for levee systems, creation of favourable hydraulic regime in these systems and provision of sustainability for dikes. Its main elements are calculations of pass-through capacity of the leveed channel and rise of water level in inter-dike space, and distance between dikes and their crest level. Peculiar feature of the proposed calculated formulae is an interaction consideration of channel and inundated flows. Their mass-exchanging process results in slowing-down of the channel flow and acceleration of the inundated flow. This occurrence is taken into account and coefficients of kinematic efficiency are introduced to the elements of water flow rate in the river channel and flood plain, respectively. The adduced dependencies for determination of a dike crest level (consequently their height) take into consideration a rise of water level in inter-dike space for two types of polder systems: non-inundable (winter) dikes with maximum spring flood rate and inundable (summer) dikes with summer-autumn flood rates. The proposed calculated formulae can be recommended for application at design organizations.

In the conditions of modern changes of climate both in Ukraine and in the world on the whole, probability of the extreme hydrological phenomena rises substantially, in particular, catastrophic floods of different origin. The analysis of flood distribution on the territory of Ukraine shows that an overwhelming amount of destructive floods happened in Ukrainian Carpathians, where they are the characteristic feature of the hydrological mode of the rivers. Floods which are observed on the rivers of Crimean Mountains also, for individual years, had catastrophic character. For determination of water discharge calculations in the period of floods on the mountain rivers of Ukraine authors offer a scientific-methodical base which is based on modern scientific achievements in area of theoretical and applied hydrology. Fundamentally new in the proposed model is the separation of factors of forming and transformation of flood flow on slopes and in a river-bed network. The method of numeral solution of task was developed for nonmeasureable descriptions of floods and it found practical application. As a result, the numerical values of the main components of the slope inflow are obtained: the layers of runoff for the flood of 1% probability and the duration of the slope inflow, which are generalized over the territory, taking into account the influence of intrazonal and azonal factors (forestation, mean height of the catchments and karst) and coefficient of time nonuniformity of slope inflow, which are averaged within the studied regions. The process of transformation of slope inflow into channel runoff is described with the help of transformation functions that take into account the time of channel run-up and flood plain regulation. The accuracy of determining the maximum modules of the runoff of 1% probability of exceeding depends on the accuracy of the initial information, which makes it possible to recommend the proposed methodology for practical use in order to increase the level of hydraulic engineering projects and water resources management on the mountain territories of Crimea and Carpathians.

The article offers a method and program for experimental studies of reinforced concrete structures with cross-shaped spatial crack under torsion with bending, the main purpose of which is to check the design assumptions and experimental determination of the design parameters of the proposed calculation method. The conducted experimental studies provide an opportunity to test the proposed calculation apparatus and clarify the regularities for determining deflections, angles of rotation of extreme sections, and stresses in the compressed zone of concrete. For analysis, the article presents a typical experimental scheme for the formation and development of cracks in the form of a sweep, as well as characteristic graphs of the dependence of the angles of rotation of end sections.

this paper studies the typical irreversible processes such as combustion and heat transfer with temperature difference based on the theory of thermodynamics, analyzes the influencing factors on exergy loss in irreversible processes, on the basis of this analysis, proposes the energy-saving optimization measures on design and operation management of the organic heat transfer material heater, and specially points out that in the design process, objective function can be constructed with the exergy loss as evaluation index to determine the outlet flue gas temperature of furnace and the flue gas temperature, and provides theoretical basis for the determination of design parameters.

In this paper, a methodology for determination of the optimal value of protection design parameters, i.e. tower footing resistance, insulation strength, and surge arresters’ rating in the planning stage of transmission lines (TLs) is presented. This method calculates the shielding failure flashover rate (SFFOR) of TLs, based on Electro-geometric model (EGM) of TLs, and the back flashover rate (BFR) of TLs, based on the Monte Carlo method, in which the accuracy of the proposed methodology has been verified by comparing the resultant results with those obtained with the use of the IEEE FLASH program. The proposed method can be directly used to achieve the minimum lightning flashover rate (LFOR) of TLs by the minimum investment cost. Also, it can be used, indirectly, for determination of the appropriate value of the footing resistance, insulation strength and arresters’ rating to satisfy any target number of LFOR that might be specified by the utilities or standards.

Abstract: Belawan River Basin is one of the watershed, which currently change the land use because of the increasing population and industrial development. Rainfall with high intensity can cause rapid runoff, causing flood around the plains of the river cross section. The purpose of this research is to determine the flood water level of Belawan Watershed and flood discharge return period. Scope of activity in this research is analyzing daily rainfall Belawan watershed with the flood-discharge return period. Scope of activity in this research is analyzing maximum daily rainfall Belawan Watershed, and simulating flood water level with HECRAS. The result of the study shows that the potency of Belawan watershed flood water level is caused by flood discharge at 25 to 100 years especially in the middle to downstream of river cross section that is between 0.7 m and 3.3 m. Keywords: Flood Discharge, Flood Level, Belawan Watershed, Software HECRAS.
