PurposeThis study examines how high-performance work practices (HPWPs) influence organizational citizenship behaviour (OCB) and the mediating role of employee affective commitment (AC) in this relationship in a non-Western context such as India.Design/methodology/approachThe study uses a survey research design. Taking a sample of 503 employees of a large manufacturing organization in India, the primary data are analysed using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and Andrew Hayes' PROCESS macro.FindingsThe findings indicate that employee perceptions of HPWPs positively relate to OCB. The mediating role of employee AC in the relationship is also found. These findings imply that positive perceptions of employees towards HPWPs create AC in employees and which, in turn, results in OCB.Research limitations/implicationsThe study focuses on a single organization, which limits its generalizability and recommends future researchers to conduct a broad-based study. The study is also limited by its research design and cross-sectional data for establishing causality on a firmer footing.Originality/valueThe study examines the influence of HPWPs on OCB with AC as a mediating variable in a non-Western setting such as India and makes a departure from the earlier ones in that it considers perceptions of employees towards HPWPs rather than managerial reporting of their actual use. Findings of the research take the debate a step further in understanding the mechanism of the relationship.

Employee engagement encompasses and connects a vast range of management discipline which turns it to be a wide spread concept. The correlation between employee engagement and perceived financial performance has rarely been studied. The intention of this study scrutinizes the connection between employee engagement and perceived financial performance. Based on data extracted from 67 HR managers in the listed companies in Sri Lanka, the study investigates two hypothesized relationships; the relationship between employee engagement and perceived financial performance, and the mediating role of employee job performance on the relationship between employee engagement and perceived financial performance. These ideas initiate important discussion for academics and practitioners.

The theme of employee engagement has generated a great deal of attention among human resource practitioners across the globe. Companies are increasingly focusing on means of creating and leveraging levels of employee engagement. Employee engagement was experimentally determined to be a key forecaster of desirable organizational outcomes such as customer satisfaction, retention, productivity and profitability. Research studies have suggested that high-performance work practices can help to develop positive beliefs and mind-set associated with employee engagement. These practices can, therefore, generate the kinds of discretionary behaviours that lead to enhanced performance. The present research attempts to analyse the relationship between high performance work practices, employee engagement and turnover intentions for public sector units (PSUs) in Delhi and NCR. The research is exploratory in nature and was conducted on the basis of self-completed questionnaires and relevant secondary sources. Keywords: ability, employee engagement, high performance work practices, motivation, opportunity to participate, turnover intentions

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore the relationship between employee engagement and job performance in the country of Lebanon, and to test whether creativity mediates the relationship between engagement and performance. Design/methodology/approach The research sample consisted of 186 respondents working in Lebanese firms. The questionnaire included established measures relating to employee engagement, job performance and creativity – in addition to various demographic questions. Stepwise multiple regression and bootstrapping methods were employed in the analysis of the data. Findings The findings showed a significant positive effect of employee engagement on job performance. However, mediation analysis using bootstrapping methods has shown that creativity has fully mediated the relationship between engagement and performance. Originality/value The study extends previous research and increases the external validity of the findings by investigating the relationship between engagement and performance in new non-western contexts. Moreover, this is one of the first research studies that explores the role of creativity in the relationship between the two variables; this helps in improving our understanding of the model and aids in enhancing the effect of engagement on performance.

This study examined the effects of high-performance work practices on turnover intention through the mediating role of employee morale. The study also examined the extent to which psychological capital could moderate the relationship between employee morale and turnover intention. With the aid of questionnaire administration, the study collected 469 valid responses from frontline employees in the hospitality sector of Ghana. Findings from the hierarchical regression analysis showed that training and empowerment had a significant influence on turnover intention. Training and reward also had a significant positive effect on job satisfaction. Empowerment, on the other hand, had a significant positive influence on affective organizational commitment. Both affective organizational commitment and job satisfaction significantly influenced turnover intention. Optimism and resilience moderated the relationship between affective organizational commitment and turnover intention. Also, self-efficacy moderated the relationship between job satisfaction and turnover intention. The study offers some implications and suggestions for future studies in the main text.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to propose two models: the first examines the impact of different dimension of justice (distributive, procedural and interactional) on job performance taking into consideration the mediating role of affective commitment and the second model utilizes the notion of overall justice to predict job performance considering the mediating role of affective commitment. Design/methodology/approach This study was conducted with a sample group of 343 employees working within French small-and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Findings The results support the mediating role of affective commitment between organizational justice and job performance and demonstrate that overall justice has a greater effect on affective commitment than specific dimensions of justice. Originality/value The current study is the first to explore the relationship between JP and OJ, with the latter being measured in more than one focus, in the French SMEs. Therefore, this study contributes to bridge the gap in the understanding of the relationship between OJ and JP in the SMEs. In the French context of SMEs, the authors have stressed the relevance of the perception of organizational justice as a factor affecting the behavior and performance of employees which is then reflected in the success of these firms. In this paper the authors propose two models, with significant implications for researchers, managers, and HR departments. The first examines the impact of different dimension of justice (distributive, procedural and interactional) on job performance taking into consideration the mediating role of affective commitment. The second model utilizes the notion of overall justice to predict job performance considering the mediating role of affective commitment.
