Every decision made by top management determines the company objection. One tool that can assist a company’s management in decision making is Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. It provides any information needed by the end users. So, this system can provide supports to all staffs in operation, managers in the middle level and top executives in the top level management. The information provided by this system can help the end users to do their functions within company properly. PT Ciliandra Perkasa as an agribusiness company needs information system support for its operational. This support will help company to get more competitive in oil palm agribusiness in Indonesia. This research implements quantitative method using primary data and secondary data sampling.

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) can be described as a concept for planning and managing organization resources to create value added for stakeholders. PT Ciliandra Perkasa as an agribusiness company realized the importance of ERP system to support their operational activities. Indeed, there are many problems on the ERP implementation. Therefore, it is needed to build a proper ERP system process to be implemented. This issue will be the research problem. Implementing a qualitative method, this research uses primary data and secondary data as samples. Tests and analysis use Analytical Hierarchical Process (AHP) which its results are expected to guide the management of PT Ciliandra Perkasa in selecting proper software of ERP application.

The success of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) implementation depends, to a large extent, on end-users' acceptance of ERP systems, which in turn affects the intensity and nature of system use. To understand the phenomenon underlying end-users' acceptance of ERP systems, the authors conducted a grounded theory research in a large institution that implemented an ERP system. Through systematic coding and content analysis, the authors inductively derived a theoretical model to explain end-users' acceptance of ERP systems. Three categories – beliefs about the system, changes in job scope, and social influence – emerged from the data as direct antecedents of user acceptance. The data also suggest that “beliefs about the system” mediates the influence of “training and support” and “personal characteristics” on user acceptance, whereas “personal characteristics” moderate the influence of “changes in job scope” on user acceptance. The theoretical model that emerged from this qualitative study extends existing models of user acceptance by providing a more complete understanding of end-users' acceptance of ERP systems.

This chapter sketches an Organization Design perspective called “Modern Socio-technical Design”, and subsequently discusses the implementation of Enterprise Resource Planning Systems from this perspective. The authors argue that the praxis of ERP-system implementation is often at odds with socio-technical insights, leading to various problems that ERP-end users are confronted with. These tensions may not be inevitable, but simply result from taken-for-granted organization assumptions underlying ERP-implementation praxis. The sociotechnical insights are intended to help practitioners reflect on ERP-implementation praxis, and discuss to what extent an ERP-system is appropriate and if so, where socio-technically inspired choices may be made within configuration processes.

Benefits reaped from implementing Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems have made them a critical part of organisations. These systems, which are developed on best business practices, are sometimes unable to satisfy unique organisational needs, such as those specific to the construction industry which present a unique set of challenges different from those of manufacturing and service industries. This paper aims to study the development of in-house ERP system in an organisation in a developing country, and seek to explore and understand the development of ERP system designed exclusively around the needs of an organisation. This study adopts a case study based qualitative research methodology. Primary data is collected through a series of interviews, discussions with the project manager, development staff and end users. The outcome of the study shows that through proper planning coupled with detailed needs analysis, suitable change management strategy, an experienced project team and selecting the appropriate software development process, any organisation can design and develop ERP system that caters for the organisation specific needs. Therefore, eliminating the need of complex software customisation or altering business processes. Further, by developing an in-house system, the probability of a failed implementation is greatly reduced thus allowing the organisation to focus on its core business while benefitting from the new system.

Purpose This paper aims to investigate the accounting logic inscribed in the SAP enterprise resource planning (ERP) system and how this accounting logic becomes effective in organizations. The authors draw on the notion of accounting logics by mobilizing the institutional logics literature (Thornton et al., 2012). Accordingly, accounting logics are conceptualized as crucial underlying design principles consisting of a system of beliefs, assumptions and ideas how accounting systems should be designed. Design/methodology/approach The authors adopt a qualitative case study approach conducted in a manufacturing company, hereafter called Wood Plc. The primary data source is qualitative research interviews. Secondary data, such as internal documents, were collected to increase validity and reliability through data triangulation (Ahrens and Chapman, 2006; Scapens, 2004). Findings The paper demonstrates how a particular accounting logic – the Germanic accounting logic – gets diffused throughout the organization by the means of the SAP ERP system, and creates challenges for management accounting practices in local entities. The contribution of the paper is to show that ERP systems can foster the diffusion of a specific accounting logic, which is inherently linked to the SAP system, and which enables a specific version of accounting to work in an organization. Research limitations/implications This paper could be viewed as an extreme case of a German organization using the SAP ERP system with its Germanic accounting logic inscribed to make a German accounting logic work in the entire organization. Consequently, further research could unpack the relationship between accounting logics, ERP systems, accounting systems and their use by studying not only different empirical settings with respect to the organizational context but also the ERP software used by organizations. Practical implications This paper aims to raise the awareness of practitioners of the conceptual underpinnings inscribed in the SAP accounting modules while at the same time pinpointing the potential challenges of implementation generated by the accounting logics. Originality/value The paper complements existing studies on accounting and ERP systems by bringing the accounting logic inscribed in the SAP ERP system to the fore. More precisely, this paper shows that in the wake of SAP ERP implementation, the organization studied spread its assumptions and beliefs on accounting, which are manifested in the Germanic accounting logic inscribed in the SAP ERP system, in the organization. This invoked particular challenges in non-Germanic subsidiaries in making accounting work.

AbstractThis study is aimed to analyze success of the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System Merging in Chemical Company Singapore that acquired two companies. The success component of ERP system success is using DeLone and McLean success model with qualitative method. The research methodology used detail interview with project implementation team, ERP consultants (8 informants) to get more detail from ERP system merging with information and collected supporting data from the ERP system itself. The result shows that ERP System Merging succeed to increase the system quality of Chemical Company which acquired two companies into one ERP system. It was depicted by the increment of easiness on using the system. The information much more integrated and accurate after the ERP system merging. Meanwhile service quality was increased because of all incidents now monitored in one efficient log system and handled by experienced IT application support team.
