Curved composite I-girder bridges provide an excellent solution to problems of urban congestion, traffic and pollution, but their behavior is quite complex due to the coupled bending and torsion response of the bridges. Moreover, dynamic behavior of curved bridges further complicates the problem. The majority of curved bridges today are designed using complex analytical methods; therefore, a clear need exists for simplified design methods in the form of empirical equations for the structural design parameters. In this thesis paper, a sensitivity study is conducted to examine the effect of various design parameters on the free-vibration response of curved composite I-girder bridges. To determine their fundamental frequency and corresponding mode shape an extensive parametric study is conducted on 336 straight and curved bridges. From the results of the parametric study, simple-to-use equations are developed to predict the fundamental frequency of curved composite I-girder bridges. It is shown that the developed equations are equally applicable to curved simply supported and composite multi-span bridges with equal span lengths.

This paper presents a wavelet-based method of identification modal parameter and damage detection in a free vibration response. An algorithm for modal parameter identification and damage detection is purposed and complex Morlet wavelet is chosen as an analysis wavelet function. This paper only focuses on identification of natural frequencies of the structural system. The method utilizes both undamaged and damage experiment data of free vibration response of the truss structure system. Wavelet scalogram is utilizes for damage detection. The change of energy components for undamaged and damage structure is investigated from the plot of wavelet scalogram which corresponded to the detection of damage.

This paper deals with the finite element analysis of free vibration response of the delaminated composite plates. Free vibration analysis is performed by using ANSYS commercial software developing parametric input files. Natural frequency values and associated mode shapes of E-glass/epoxy composite delaminated plates are determined. Effects of delamination shape, dimension and location on the natural frequency and associated mode shapes are investigated and for the purpose of the observing the effect of the boundary conditions, cantilever and clamped-pinned delaminated composite plates are taken into consideration. Comparisons with the results in literature verify the validity of the developed models in this study. It is observed that the natural frequency decreases in the existence of the delamination and level of the decrease depends on the dimension, shape and location of the delamination.
