We describe a case of subacute bacterial endocarditis and mycotic brain aneurysm caused by Rothia dentocariosa due to untreated dental caries. R. dentocariosa is a rare cause of endocarditis that has a high incidence of aneurysmal and haemorrhagic complications. All patients with intracranial aneurysms who have signs of systemic infection should be considered to have mycotic aneurysms until proven otherwise. Dental habits should be included in regular medical assessment and dental care should be considered for patients presenting with infectious symptoms.

Mycotic hepatic artery aneurysm is a vascular pathology associated with bacterial endocarditis. It is rare in occurrence after the introduction of effective antibiotics. We present a young patient with injection drug abuse associated staphylococcal endocarditis which was successfully treated with antibiotics and valve replacement who presented with abdominal pain. He was found to have mycotic aneurysm of hepatic artery which was successfully treated with coil embolization.

The first case report of leukopenia with neutropenia due to the new glycopeptide antibiotic teicoplanin is described. The side effect occurred in a 73-year-old man hospitalized because of subacute bacterial endocarditis caused by Streptococcus faecalis. Leukopenia with neutropenia (white blood cells 2000/mm3, neutrophils 46%) developed after 20 days of teicoplanin therapy. After stopping teicoplanin white blood cell and neutrophil counts reverted to normal, but dropped again on rechallenge. A review of 1500 records of patients treated with teicoplanin alone or in combination with other drugs was also performed. Five cases were found in which leukopenia was possibly (four cases) or probably (one case) related to teicoplanin therapy. From these preliminary data the incidence of leukopenia related to teicoplanin seems to be low.
