Recruitment, compensation, or performance management are the subjects of traditional HR which have an ample number of insight that are likely to be applied in both established and emerging firms. Numerous proofs which recommend the management of people in start-upsmay not be the same as the settled firms. There are features, on managing people, in rising start-ups that need extra concerns and are yet to be. As situations become progressively mind-boggling and dynamic, firms must turn out to be increasingly enterprising to recognize new open doors for continued unrivalled execution. Start-ups include organizational learning, driven by the coordinated effort, imagination and individual responsibility. This paper reviews research connecting human resource management (HRM) with start-ups.

Globalization changes the business environment, which demands change from every business organization involved, to succeed in the new environment. For that purpose, human resource management needs to be directed to the development of human capital, which assumes employees as assets, not costs, for the company. The implication is that management needs to recognize each of its employees in order to maximize their potential and manage it to be a competitive advantage. This is where performance management plays a very important role.

Application of statistics in HR research has been briefly explained in our introductory chapter. It is now acknowledged, with statistics, we can ensure our HR research is more effective. Such research results can also help to take critical HR decisions at organization level. In this chapter, we have discussed on application of statistics in HR research in two critical areas, i.e., human resource planning (HRP) and performance management. Both in HRP and performance management, we can make extensive use of various mathematical, econometric, and statistical tools. Also, we have many established models. However, here our focus is restricted to only some of the simple statistical tools that can help in research in this two-critical human resource management areas. As the purpose of this chapter is to explain use of statistics in two major areas of HR research, it will cover only some selected areas of application. At the outset focus is on the specific research nitty-gritty, as these may help prospective researchers to get their basics clear, before they proceed for research in HRP and performance management areas.

This chapter describes the concept of strategic human resource management (SHRM), the concept of electronic human resource management (e-HRM), the importance of SHRM in modern organizations, and the current trends of organizational learning and knowledge management (KM) in modern organizations. SHRM is the strategic practice of attracting, developing, rewarding, and retaining employees with the important goal of increasing various benefits to both employees as individuals and organization as a whole. SHRM strategically utilizes organizational resources and talent within HR functions to make organizations more effective in the modern workforce. Organizational learning and KM allow for organizational employees to share knowledge and learn exactly what is relevant to their specific tasks toward encouraging human capital and knowledge creation. The chapter argues that promoting SHRM, organizational learning, and KM has the potential to enhance organizational performance and achieve strategic goals in modern organizations.
