Abstract: The aim of the research being undertaken is to examine the performance of advanced modulation formats such as RD and NRZ modulation schemes and their long-haul repeater-free fibre-traffic (SMF). Modular transmission of signals by SMF has been highly attracted by several benefits, such as high chromatic dispersion tolerance (CD), simplicity of deployment and higher spectrum efficiencies. These are the essential performance indicators of an optimal modulation technique for the creation of multiplexed (DWDM) transmission networks of the future generation of dense wavelengths. Based on a comparison of the two modulation approaches I give my findings. To mimic both modulation schemes, OptiSystem software is employed. In this paper, a approach for frequency 12-tupling millimeter-wave generation using one DPMZM (Dual-Parallel Mach-Zehnder Modulator) to overcome chromatic dispersion is demonstrated. The millimeter-wave with the baseband signal carried only by minus 6-th order sideband is generated by properly adjusting a series of parameters. As the signal transmittes along the fiber, there is no time shift caused by chromatic dispersion. Theoretical analyses and simulated results show that when the optical mm-wave carrying 2.5Gbps baseband signal transmits over 55 Km, the eye diagram still keeps open and clear. The power penalty is about 0.7 dB after transmits over 40 Km.

Abstract Analysis of wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) system utilizing erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) has been carried out by many researchers. In this paper, the performance analysis of 8-channel WDM system utilizing EDFA and fiber Bragg grating (FBG) combination is carried out in a wavelength band 1546–1552 nm at 10 Gbps. The performance of three apodization functions (Uniform, Gaussian and Tanh) of FBG is compared using return-to-zero (RZ) and non-return-to-zero modulation formats at fiber lengths 50, 60, 70 and 80 km. Also, the performance of FBG is compared for both aspects: with chirp and without chirp for grating lengths 5–10 mm. The Gaussian apodized and linearly chirped FBG outperformed the other two in compensating chromatic dispersion. Optimum values of Q-factor are also obtained using linearly chirped FBG with RZ modulation format at 10 mm of grating length.

AbstractThis paper presents the high capacity single-tone Radio over Fiber (RoF) system utilizing advanced modulation technique in conjunction with optimized dispersion compensation scheme to support the high data rate transmission upto 120 Gbps. The proposed system incorporates the Integrated-Alternate Mark Inversion (I-AMI) modulation and Symmetrical-Symmetrical-Post (SSP) compensation technique to enhance the spectral efficiency as well as to reduce the chromatic dispersion effects in long-haul RoF link. The proposed system i.e., I-AMI with SSP has been examined at 60, 80, 100 and 120 Gbps bit rate for various transmission distance. The simulation results obtained in terms of Q-factor, Bit Error Rate (BER) and eye diagram reveal that the proposed system provides wider eye-opening, low BER and high Q-factor as compared to the existing system. The proposed I-AMI with SSP provides the Q-factor of 30.47 whereas the I-AMI with PSP and AMI with SSP provides the Q-factor of 18.77 and 18.40 respectively at 80 Gbps bit rate over a transmission distance of 800 km.

ABSTRAKPada jurnal ini dibuat pemodelan link FTTH pada software Optisystem 7.0 untuk mengetahui pengaruh dari Kerr effect dengan membandingkan performansi serat optik kaca dan serat optik plastik berdasarkan format modulasi berupa NRZ, RZ, RZ-DPSK, RZ-DQPSK dan CSRZ. Terdapat dua skenario, dengan skenario pertama, variabel input yang diubah adalah format modulasi pada Mach-zehnder, sedangkan pada skenario kedua, variabel yang diubah adalah pemakaian serat optik yang dipakai, yaitu serat optik bahan kaca, plastik dan hybrid kaca plastik. Hasil simulasi menunjukkan dengan efek linier dan non-linier pada kabel kaca yang menghasilkan performansi jaringan dari yang terbaik, dengan Q factor di atas 6 dan BER di bawah 10-9 adalah NRZ, RZ, RZ-DPSK, CSRZ dan RZ-DQPSK. Sedangkan dengan penggunaan kabel PMMA, yang menunjukkan performansi jaringan yang baik adalah dengan konfigurasi G652D-G652D-PMMA pada format modulasi NRZ, RZ, RZ-DPSK dan RZ-DQPSK. There are two scenarios, first, input variables are changed based on format in Mach-zehnder modulator, while in the second scenario, the changed variable is the material of optical fiber, the materials are optical fiber glass, plastic and hybrid plastic and glass. The simulation results based on comparison with linear and nonlinear effects on glass optical fiber, which produce Q factor above 6 and BER below 10-9 are NRZ, RZ, RZ-DPSK, CSRZ and RZ-DQPSK. While the use of PMMA cable, which indicates good network performance is the configuration G652D-G652D-PMMA on the modulation format NRZ, RZ, RZ-DPSK and RZ-DQPSK. The topic of this report will deal with the study of advanced modulation formats for highspeed optical communication systems. Basically, the use of alternate polarization modulation (alP) is considered in order to reduce the inter-symbol interference (ISI) caused mainly by effects such as Chromatic Dispersion (CD), Polarization Mode Dispersion (PMD) and Nonlinear effects. The comparative analysis among the different formats is carried out by means of the obtaining of its different spectrums. A detailed analysis of these and their dependency to the modulation format that generates it is presented. The article presents numerical comparative analysis using commercial software VPI Maker Transmission, where the results obtained show that the formats of alternating polarization are the best results at the bit rate of 40 Gb/s per channel.

AbstractSpectral Amplitude Coding-Optical Codes Division Multiple Access (SAC-OCDMA) is a future multiplexing technique that witnessed a dramatic attraction for eliminating the problems of the internet in optical network field such as multiple-user access and speed’s growth of the files or data traffic. In this research article, the performance of SAC-OCDMA system based on two encoding–decoding multidiagonal (MD) and Walsh Hadamard (WH) codes is enhanced utilizing three different schemes of dispersion compensating fiber (DCF): pre-, post- and symmetrical compensation. The system is simulated using Optisystem version 7.0 and Optigrating version 4.2. The performance of the proposed system is specified in terms of bit error rate (BER), Q-factor and eye diagram. It has been observed that the compensated system based on MD code is performs much better compared to the system based on WH code. On the other hand, the compensated SAC-OCDMA system with symmetrical DCF has the lowest values of BER and largest values of Q-factor, so it is considered the best simulated scheme contrasted with pre- and post-DCF.

AbstractIn this paper, the performance of a novel multilevel signaling based on Manchester code namely four-level Manchester Coding (4-MC) technique is investigated for next generation high-speed optical fiber communication links. The performance of 4-MC is studied and compared with conventional Manchester modulation and four-level pulse amplitude modulation (4-PAM) formats in terms of receiver sensitivity, spectral efficiency and dispersion tolerance at the bit rate of 40 Gb/s. The bit error rate (BER) calculation model for the proposed multilevel scheme has also been developed. The calculated receiver sensitivity and the chromatic dispersion tolerance at the BER of 10–9 of the proposed scheme are −22 dBm and 67.5 ps/nm, respectively. It is observed that, 4-MC scheme is superior in comparison to 4-PAM by 3.5 dB in terms of receiver sensitivity in back-to-back scenario. Therefore, the proposed scheme can be considered as an alternative to current 4-PAM system.
