The fundamental purpose of agri-food supply chain management is to restrict opportunism caused by information asymmetry. Traditional Chinese agri-food supply chain management introduces a contract mechanism and a trust mechanism to manage the uncertainty of the agri-food quasi-organization. However, it is almost impossible to improve the efficiency of transactions and maintain agri-food supply chain stability in the case of asymmetric information. Nowadays, blockchain, Internet of Things technology and big data drive the agri-food supply chain into a vast smart network which would break the information constraints. This paper analyzes the coupling between blockchain-based digital system and the agri-food supply chain. In addition, this paper presents two cases from China, indicating that the proposed blockchain-based system can achieve disruptive transformation in agri-food supply chain management.

Current supply chain methods are having difficulties in resolving problems arising from the lack of trust in supply chains. The root reason lies in two challenges brought to the traditional mechanism: self-interests of supply chain members and information asymmetry in production processes. Blockchain is a promising technology to address these problems. The key objective of this paper is to present qualitative analysis for blockchain in supply chain as the decision-making framework to implement this new technology. The analysis method used Val IT business case framework, validated by the expert judgements. The further study needs to be elaborated by either the existing organization that use blockchain or assessment by the organization that will use blockchain to improve their supply chain management.

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) has witnessed remarkable attention in academic studies as well as being widely conducted in different industries globally. This specific case was chosen as one of the biggest dairy companies that may be represented for Vietnam dairy supply chain management. This research aims to integrate CSR initiatives into food supply chain management to clarify the optimal replenishment policy, paying close attention to the relationship between midstream manufacturers and final customers. The classical economic production quantity model has been employed, relying on the two-stage assembly production system. The three parameters that contribute to the total profit formulation that have been considered consist of the social charity amount for per unit selling, the unit wholesale price of the manufacturer, and the return rate of used goods from the customer. The study has stressed that there is a significant impact from implementing CSR initiatives on the enterprise’s inventory policy that leads to enhance the firm’s financial performance.

Making the right decisions for food supply chain is extremely important towards achieving sustainability in agricultural businesses. This paper explores that knowledge sharing to support food supply chain decisions to achieve lean performance (i.e. to reduce/eliminate non-value-adding activities, or “waste” in lean term). The focus of the paper is on defining new knowledge networks and mobilisation approaches to address the network and community nature of current supply chains. Based on critical analysis of the state-of-the-art in the topic area, a knowledge network and mobilisation framework for lean supply chain management has been developed. The framework has then been evaluated using a case study from the food supply chain. Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) has been used to incorporate expert's view on the defined knowledge networks and mobilisation approaches with respect to their contribution to achieving various lean performance objectives. The results from the work have a number of implications for current knowledge management and supply chain management in theory and in practice.

<p>With consumer consciousness growing in the area of sustainable food supply, food<br />distribution is looking for methods to embrace, adapt and improve its environmental<br />performance, while still remaining economically competitive. Until recent innovative<br />solutions were developed, coffee pods have been considered as an ecologically unsound<br />approach to single-serve beverages. Some have argued that reverse logistics (recycling) is a<br />better option than green supply chain management (composting). With a particular focus on<br />coffee pods a case study on Club Coffee, which focuses on green supply chain management,<br />is presented for the design of a capacitated distribution network for a two-layer supply chain<br />involved in the distribution of coffee pods in Canada. Our investigation shows that Club<br />Coffee’s relationship is not only critical to fostering the green supply chain ideology, but it is<br />also unique in the business. Findings are presented and limitations and future research are<br />proposed.</p>
